  1. I grew up with a border collie and a stafford (both bitches) who were constantly on the go. Both were speyed, and I think the border was about 8 or 9 when we got the staff (something like that). Initially the staff loved the border to pieces. Just thought she was the bees knees. Then, when she got to about 12 months old she attacked the border over some food. We thought it was a once off but we were wrong. They had very many nasty vicious fights and the staff always went for the front legs or throat (I never realised the importance of the legs until I read a thread here a few months ago). Someone was always there luckily but 3 of us were bitten, my mum had statiches on her ankle, I was bitten on the pinky and my sister was bitten on the eye. One upside to being bitten was you could always guarantee that the minute a person was bitten the fight would stop. Anyway, they had some quite nasty fights and the border never started them but she wasnt letting some small staff bitch get the upper hand so in the end my mum separated them. Sometimes a separate yard, sometimes the staff would be tied. The dogs still hung out together if Rosie was tied, but it meant Missy could move away when Rosie snapped. Anyway, Missy died when she was about 17 or so and my mum inherited my sisters staffy/bull terrier/lab boy. At first Rosie thought the play mate was great but them she started attacking him too. The last time I saw her fight, she was about 11 years old. Remus (the other dog) had been tied so Rosie could have a turn in the back yard with us on Xmas day. We were kicking the ball round and everyone was getting excited and not watching like they should have...rosie got super excited and laid right into remus (he was about twice the size). Anyway, my partner grabbe dher and chucked her backwards but befor eone of us had a chance to react she was back in at remus again. It was quite savage. For her efforts that time mum refused to tak eher to the vet (she took remus) as she had decided if rosie was so intent on starting fights then she could deal with the bloody consequences (I tried telling her I dont think the dog looks at it that way but you know mothers LOLOL). Rosie was just a fiesty wee lass and there were often not any warning signals either.
  2. awww mum is so cute...I wanna taker her to bed with me for cuggles
  3. That's a shame that a family can accept a dog with issues, and then get all in a fuss over toilet training ffs. No offence but they sound like idiots.
  4. I go my first dog when I was 17 and was already renting a flat - we had 3 dogs in the flat - and have been renting ever since (13 years). Always with at least two dogs. Both here and in NZ. To be honest, I find it harder here due to meetign the agents, but we were really lucky with our current house as I managed to meet the LL directly and if you can do first impressions that always helps. No good if its an agent though. I quite fancy a move though and have been looking at houses and there seem to be plenty out there that are dog friendly at the moment. Good luck
  5. I realised I didn't actually have anything better to do so went and took the pics now LOL She is on my bed though and the lighting in there is a bit crud so will have to pop a better one up tomorrow She also hates having her picture taken and usually when she sees the camera she tucks her head away or runs off so I had to "force" her for these ones - hence she looks unhappy about it LOL
  6. And man was she not impressed LMAO Neither is the daughter obviously, and I quote "Mum, you made Pippi look ugly" LMAO Pippi is a scruffy wee dog (see pic below), and she gets gunk caught in the hair under her eyes, and she gets little mini dreads on top of her head as well as has hair that flops down into her eyes. We gave her a flat top and trimmed the hair where the gunk gets caught. I have to say, I think she looks even more gorgeous because now we can see her lovely two tone eyes (she has a black pupil, obviously, but then she has a ring of really dark brown and then a ring of light brown). Pippi wasn't impressed however, rushing off and staring at us like we'd given her food and then taken it off her LOLOL Anyway, pic below of the before and will have to get an after piccy tomorrow and post it.
  7. I love my vet too....well we see different vets but the boss vet I really like and the clinic as a whole.
  8. can you pluck each individual hair out LMAO
  9. Pippi goes nuts at her reflection...but only in windows not in the mirror. She is not even vaguely interested in her mirror image but when we go for a walk past shops, if she catches a glimpse of her reflection she will go nuts if I dont quickly let her go up and put her nose to the glass LOL. She even knows where all the right windows are and will start pulling to get there. I am assuming she thinks its a dog on the other side and has to check...I dunno. The other week though she did it right behind this man and he leapt into the air, it was so funny.
  10. LOL cute My dogs don't really know any "useful" tricks, though we did start teaching our old dog how to get the ciggies for us LMAO
  11. Im going with the brown option...or brown and tan if oyu can put that. Like others have said most people wouldnt think of that colour as being red, even though it is. For example, even though I would recognise it as red, when I picture a red dog I picture one with that boxer reddy colour
  12. I thought he was an Am Staff....that's what it says right under the video, or can I not read? Maybe I just saw "American"
  13. That dog looks like he is having a fab time! Be a pain in the butt to keep in the yard though. We used to have a very similar dog (stafford/boxer mix) who could do stuff like that and he was literally impossible to keep in the yard...he could jump 6ft fences without even touching the top.
  14. LOL, I LOVE the scam emails. Slightly OT but I emailed about a house one time, and basically soemone had uplifted someone elses photos (yes the owner was also advertising it for rent) and then put it on the same website with a different address. They were asking for $3000 bond to be paid up front without havign seen the property. I played along for ages, then when I got bored I emailed the owner and told them about the other listing LOL On gumtree another time I clearly saw a Bulldog scam and had a bit of fun with that one too...emailing and asking how much money they needed for the pups to be sent to me within 24 hours LMAO They get really excited when they think you are falling for it
  15. Agree with all the others about working full time...shoudnt really be an issue. Admitedly though, for our first few dogs someone was always home with them because initially I worked nights while OH worked days, then we both studied for 3 years and had flexible hours. However, when we got Pippi we went out and picked her up on a Thursday night and both went to work at 7am the next day. I had made a little area for her to be in during the day to confine accidents and she had managed to escape and when my partner got home at 3.30pm she was hiding right under our daughters bed terrified...poor wee mite. Doesn't seem to have had any detrimental effects though - unless her being a little ratbag is as a result of that LOL Anyway, we then had the weekend off and when we went to work ont he Monday she cried a wee bit but she adjusted pretty quickly. We done that routine until she was about 6 months old and I decided she was ready to be left outside with the big dog all day. I would love to be able ot take time off whenever a new dog came but it is not always possible, and I think that's fine. They sleep alot during the day anyway, especially when they are young.
  16. Our dogs sleep in thier own bedroom and we have a routine. I usually get up and get ready for work, then I get their breakfast and get them up. By which stage they are happy beause they are about ot get food. We go outside for a run and brekky, then we have cuddles and then I leave for the day. Not much difference on the nights when they sleep with us except for the fact that Pippi wakes up at about 6.30am-7am (because thats when i usually get em up before work) and then decides its time to play and will jump on me, lick me, bite me, pretend shes snuggling up to me but really shes trying to wake me up and other annoying things until I relent and get them breakfast and put them outside before i crawl back into bed LOL They are afternoon nappers like us so often in the weekends we all (me, OH, our daughter and the 2 dogs) will have an hour or two kip in the arvo all togethe ron the bed LOL
  17. How the hell did she manage to get the leads round her legs like that? Is that even possible LMAO
  18. Gosh, that seems like an awful lot of aggressive dogs to run into on the one walk. Something in the water round your way eh?
  19. of course you can In fact, there was a guy in NZ who was exactly that. He was a Wheaton breeder and he had 135 dogs in appalling conditions, lots with mental issues. He was just pumping out puppy after puppy after puppy from his breeding bitches. He was also a judge on the show circuit from memory
  20. Gorgeous dogs...Chester was in absolutely stunning condition Lovely story but, shoot me if ya like I don't mind, it almost seemed a little "faked". They said that that would have been the first time Chester had a lead on, well why didn't he buck and stuff. I have seen well loved adult family dogs get a lead on for the first time (after having been off lead walked) and go berserk about it so youd think a stray would too. And they were extremely accepting of the man within such a short time...I dunno, maybe I am just a skeptic but personally, I don't think the dogs were feral for very long. However, lovely story regardless and definitely nice to see something happy about pittys.
  21. A couple of years ago I went away on holiday and while up there, I decided to meet a freind from a forum I posted on. Anyway, my OH and I get to his place and out comes their Griffon...called Rufus. He was just the most gorgeous thing ever. Needless to say I extended the hand of friendship to Rufus and for the many hours we visited he made himself at home on my lap, at my feet, begging at me. I could have stolen him. He is the dog that made me start considering small dogs as an option.
  22. Have to agree with that to be honest. We do have some breeds we like more than others, but at the end of the day, we would be happy to own any breed - we are not fussy as long as it is a dog. In saying that, our top 3 breeds are Bulldog, Great Dane and Shih tzu. And then we have a longer list of other breeds we want to have as well one day LOL. Puppy factor, I think Staffords are the cutest pups ever...I go mushy whenever I see any puppy. Literally...I am a little bit of a man beast but when I see a puppy I get this high pitched squeaky voice and I go all girly and I melt into the ground LMAO
  23. Oh LOL, I always said I would NEVER EVER own a small dog, and especially NEVER EVER one with a tail that curled up over its back, and really especially NEVER EVER put a jacket on it. Now I have a small wee mutt whit a tail that curls over her back (when she is super happy the tail curls even tighter) and when it is cold I put a jacket on her LMAO
  24. I have a large dog, and we got a tiny puppy (both fully grown no and one is about 40kgs and the other is 6) and I just brought the wee one in and put her on the ground and then let the big one in. Quite funny it was too because the puppy attacked the big dog and he stuck his tail between his legs and ran outside LMAO I don't think thats the advice you were after though LOL We don't make a big fuss of these things though and never do any "proper" introductions. We just bring them in together straight away and they just better accept each other. Probably a bit different if you are introducing two older dogs bt we follow the same thing there too, no fuss just do it. You will get way better advice from everyone else here though, mines a bit shit and probably not the right way at all LOLOL
