yes, i am starting to think along those lines myself. And she has the other two dogs for company. The neighbour can see their run from his window, i could ask him to keep an eye out.

As some of you may be aware we have just adopted a young female kelpie from mildura pound. her arrival is hopefully on Tuesday. We also have my lovely Katie (Blue Heeler) here's the dilemna.......... We are booked in for a romantic weekend away the following weekend in Sydney. My mum has kindly offered to take Skye into her home for the weekend as she will be unsettled and have stitches in place. She is not able to take Katie as well, this is too much for mum with 2 young dogs. So will I book Katie in to the Kennel where she will have to stay for 3 nights due to drop off and pick up times or will I leave her at home with the two small cross breed dogs we have in our own run that she is used to. This would only be 1 night alone. My mum is coming over on the saturday night to feed the small dogs and check on them, Katie is used to being in the run with them and I expect she'd be fine at home, but normally they do come and sleep inside. I know I will be worried (for no reason) about her digging out or something stupid like that. Not that she has ever done this before and the run is very safe with mesh fencing on the ground and why would she leave the other 2 dogs? What are your opinions? I worry about her being in a kennel for 3 nights as well as she is a very shy dog and probably will stress quite badly. She's the kind of dog who will suffer from stomach upset and it will put her back confidence wise quite a bit. What to do??????

Thanks for the welcome. We rescued SKYE

Actually the first time we put her in the pen with the sheep she just stayed by my side. We really had to rouse up the sheep in order to get her interesed and confident enough to even follow them. Katie is a very calm and slightly shy dog. She approaches everything with caution. The second time she got the idea that she should 'chase them' but everytime she got close enough to touch one she would turn and come back to me. Now she's a bit too keen and likes to pluck bits of wool from them. We call her the sheep shearer. but she's learning. (she plucks with her front teeth and the lips gently pulled back because she doen't actually want to 'touch' them) very funny to watch. I can't direct her with the rake yet as she finds this too intimidating, so for now we are just taking it easy and letting her have some fun to gain confidence. the instructor assures me that she will be quite good but we can't push her too far too soon as we don't want her to stop enjoying it. i think she'll be quite good in the long run. We ended up putting an experienced dog in with her, so she could follow her lead. that helped somewhat. She does tend to 'nip' at the heels but it's not a bite by any stretch of the imagination. She's just not like that. She's never even nipped at our heels all through her puppyhood. She's a very calm and quiet Blue heeler who is the real velcro dog and would rather be by my side that anything else. once she got the hang of it a little bit though she really enjoyed it. Slept for 24 hours straight afterwards and there is nothing nicer than a tired working dog

One of my mums dogs (border collie x Lab) doesn't drink enough water either. never has. She's about 7 years old now. Mum buys some dog milk and waters it down like you would cordial and gives it to her a few times a day. this works well for her.

thank you so much guys. She's quite small still, b ut she was the runt of the litter. How have you been?

Hi all, just thought I would come in and introduce myself. I am actually a Blue Heeler owner but have just rescued a Kelpie from Mildura pound for my husband. We both have just started sheep herding as a hobby and my husband always had Kelpies in a previous life. We are currently eagerly awaiting her arrival. Looking forward to sharing some kelpie stories with all soon.

Hi, I haven't posted for a while. Katie is 6 months old now and she has grown into a beautiful young lady. She's exceptionally loyal and my best buddy. here's a recent photo for you.

Thank you. yes she's my little angel. A really sweet and very loyal dog indeed. I used to post here when she was really little. She's 6 months old now and has grown into a wonderful companion. The true 'velcro dog'

Hi I haven't spoken to you for AGES. looks like Elbie is going great apart from his little bed incident. I wouldn't worry too much. Katie still has the occasional slip up too. I hope you are well.

Hi all, I haven't posted for a while. I have just been too busy. katie is going great guns and has grown into a lovely young lady. We thought it was time we popped in and said hello to all our friends on the forum as it has been a while. I am busy reading about what everyone has been up to in the last month. Here are some new photo's of my little Katie. She's grown so much, and recently we have turned our hand to sheep herding. it's a whole lot of fun. Oh...we have also rescued a Kelpie from mildura pound last week for katie to play with (and my husband). She's listed in the recue thread in the urgent section from Mildura. we are currently eagerly awaiting her arrival. Hope everyone is well.

Super pictures. I am hoping to make it to the next beginners class with my young Katie.

By the time you have a prolonged Activated Clotting Time (ACT) you are already in deep deep trouble. this stuff is designed to kill, and that's exactly what it does. The best treatment is getting the dog to the vet ASAP, worst case scenario, vomiting is induced and no traces of poison found..and then you can go home and stop worrying about it. Once this stuff starts to work in the way it is designed to you're in BIG trouble.

I just chop the chicken into pieces and boil in the same pot at the same time as the rice. Saves on dishes and mixes the flavour through.
-
Good news in the sense that he's healthy What are the tablets they prescribed? Just out of curiosity.
-
Looks like a wonderful day. I'm just sorry I missed it, hopefully I won't be working next time and will be able to come and play too.
-
could just be a little Obsessive compulsive. maybe try breaking the routine a little and see what happens. Obviously rule out any health issues too. Good luck I hope you find the answers soon :D

Perfect solution. I don't know of any puppy classs that will accept pups without them being fully vaccinated, so I am not sure exactly how people are socialising their pups prior to 12 weeks (unless it's at home with their own other pets)(which is my case) I certaily didn't take Katie out prior to her last vaccine. I think as long as they have human contact between leaving their litter mates and their final vacc they should be fine. That's only a few weeks of their life. You have plenty of time. Stress not :D
-
Yes...that IS progress. Just reward it and it should continue. Every dog will learn scary things at their own pace. I did spend some time carrying Katie when I needed to. I just didn't make a big deal out of it, and eventually she WANTED to do it. He'll get there...he sounds like a really sweet dog :D

Thanks guys. i can't wait to take her back again. I think the picture needs a dance pole photoshopped into it, looks like she's doing a pole dance

We generally use a Chlorhexadine mixture in the vet clinic. But for home use all of the above mentioned are great
-
Might have to stay off the bones in that case, but she'll be fine. they adapt really well

I will definately try and come to Kepala sometime soon although it is a loooooooooooooooong way from home. It looks well worth the trip. A bushwalk also sounds good, but that is a spring time activity I think. Plenty of bush near my house.
