  1. He's probably just a little sore and didn't realise he needed to go to the toilet in time. But if you are worried...call your vet for sure. Bottom line ALWAYS is..."if you are concerned, call the vet"
  2. I had this problem with a horse once. She was beautiful and a very well bred show winner (pure Clydesdale) She was sweet and well behaved and didn't do anything wrong, but for some reason I just found her personanlity bland and we never really bonded. I sold her to a lovely home in QLD and the new owner and her became the closest of friends in a matter of weeks. On the flip side , when i got my Katie as a pup we bonded IMMEDIATELY. I had actually purchased a different pup in the litter and went to collect him, when....around the corner came little Katie, made eye contact with me and I just KNEW she was the pup for me. I pleased with the breeder until she allowed me to swap pups. It was INSTANT. We just 'clicked' and haven't looked back since. I go to work....and I miss her. And the new dog SKYE that has just arrived 2 days ago from Mildura pound (Kelpie) has a strong bond with my husband already. It's the first day today that hubby has gone to work and she's looking for him everywhere even though I am home with her.
  3. Sounds like she's over the worst of it it may not have been a pancreatic flare up at all, may have just been a mild gastro Sounds like you are doing a good job watching her.
  4. I have never lived with dogs in any really hot climate so i don't have an answer for you, just wanted to add that i have the heater on here at the moment.
  5. Yes, it depend on the type of illness we are dealing with. They all have diffent incubation periods. Not your fault though......pup's should not be out without vaccination. Wonder if they have a slack vet or just haven't been to one. Probably the latter
  6. I have never managed to find a puppy school that will take pups without being FULLY vacc. not that i wanted to attend without it...but I always found it 'inconvenient' that they reccomend socialisation at a youmg age , but then you can't really until they are (in my case) 16 weeks old. I have other dogs at home that I know are not infected with anything so i did the early socialising myself.
  7. Starting to see snippets of Skyes real personality now. She's feeling less tired and a little cooped up from being inside with her stitches and E-collar. Currently chasing the cats. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm She's very cute doing it though, and admittedly they are season dog cats and they are teasing her. She's very gentle with them...just likes to chase them and then stare at them for a while. PS: temps normal now
  8. The fact that he is still hanging in there is encouraging Do you know what kind of treatment he is recieving in the meantime. Supportive treatment I mean. What kind of fluids, analgesia etc. I doubt it was the treat. If that were the case he would probably just have a really bad digestive reaction unless it had somthing like nuts or licorice (SP) in it?? I am sending out all vibes I can for you. Please get well soon Chase :D
  9. Gosh, they have all grown into beautiful young ladies and gentlemen. time flies doesn't it? Katie is now 6 months old as well. here are some photo's then...... and now.....

    Desexing

Most dogs are actually a little quieter for the first few days anyway, so that helps. I DO suggest using an E-collar especially if unsupervised. I would also avoid walks for at least 7-8 days as the skin doesn't mesh prior to that and you risk pulling the stitches (not out, but by tension) I know it sounds horrible, but lock him in the laundry when you go to work with an E-collar on. Keep the wound dry and clean and try not to let him jump on anything. Watch for any oozing or redness. I'm going through it myself right now with Skye and she spends most of her time locked in a crate or asleep at our feet. If she gets excited, it's back in the crate. You have to be cruel to be kind. If he DOES manage to pull his stitches it's no huge deal, but you must have it seen to by a vet asap and it means starting all over again. think of every day as a step close to it being over. you only have to do it once. If you are really concerned about not being able to keep him quiet ask your vet for some ACP to take home. You can slightly sedate him and he can just snooze away his healing time. By day 5-6 you can relax a little more if everything is going well. he'll be fine
  11. I had all these mixed emotions when Katie started loosing her baby teeth too. I was kind of proud, happy and sad all at once. I kept some. She'll probably loose quite a few all in a short space of time now. I wish they could stay puppies for ever sometimes
  12. Thank you. We love her to bits. She's still very nervous which is undestandable. She tried to hide behind a table and got herself stuck before because Katie was playing with a squeeky toy and it scared her. Poor thing. I think she will feel a lot better once the stitches are out and the bucket comes off the head too. For now she is just being kept quiet and re-assured.
  13. Just re-read your first post and it answers some of my questions. Apologies for doubling up on them. any news yet???
  14. I feel so sad reading this. You did very well to react as quickly as you did. I woud have sped too....and I am always the one on the other end of the phone telling owners to drive safely. Snake bite can affect different dogs differently but bleeding from the lungs is not usually a symptom that presents. Bee sting in the throat??? I wouldn't think bleeding from the lungs either.....but then, the blood may not have been coming from the lungs. It could have been the back of the throat or tongue especially if it was swollen and in the collapse your dog bit his tongue? All other symptoms ie: collapse etc would point to snake bite. Have they run a detection kit? In any case, I am crossing all fingers and toes for you and hope he makes a speedy recovery for you. I am sure he is in good hands even with the vet you have little faith in. Usually clinic policies will ensure all staff act in the same manner, and if this vet is uncertain let me assure you he/she will be on the phone either to the vet you DO trust or to the specialists or emergency centres for advice.
  15. That's encouraging to know. thank you But I have already heard her cough once Skye's is very mild for now, but time will tell. She's bright and happy, eating and drinking well and temp is slowly coming down. Watching closely still.
  16. day number two and Skye is starting to loven up a little. She does have a mild case of kennel cough but she's travelling along ok. no secondary infections as yet however I will be taking her to the vet for a check up on Friday. She's spent today sleeping on her bed in the sunshine on the back porch and a brief nap with me on the bed her and katie now get on fine together, but I am trying to keep them a little further apart due to the kennel cough. unfortunately it is inevitable that katie will get it too....
  17. My old ACD was diagnosed with Pancreatitis aout 8 years ago. he's never had a re-lapse thankfully but we are very vigilant in what we feed. How's the patient this morning? Do you know what her temperature is doing?
  18. Yes, unfortunately she really needs that collar. She's straight onto her stitches without it. Was introduced properly to katie lsat night they are happy co-existing already. they haven't exactly played together yet, but will just curl up in seperate areas of the lounge without bothering about each other can move around the house without feeling threatened by the other. it's a great start in such early days.
  19. I suggest running a glucose curve. I am guessing that this is what the vet has in mind though....
  20. they possibly would have been able to hazard a guess at time of spay. but you'll never tell by just looking at her. glad she's found a loving home <3 Congratulations
  21. I can't figure out why she was dumped by her owner yet. She's a really sweet girl. Allows full body check, good with the cats, seems fine with other dogs so far, very friendly and really smart. He went through all the trouble of fully vaccinating her and microshipping her and then dumped her at the pound. Maybe she was too rough on the sheep?? Or didn't want to work?? We might find out the reason someday, or maybe we'll never know.
  22. Yes, I have definately lost my husband to another woman I too like my dogs a little on the lean side especially when young. Skye is just on 7 months. It doesn't show in the photo but you can actually count her ribs from the other side of the room. So she needs to gain a little. but for a dog who has just come through the pound and been on a plane ride, she is in really good condition. A slight skin problem to deal with and possibly a really mild case of kennel cough. But she is fully vaccinated as are my others and I am doing temp checks etc every couple of hours. The cough is so mild that even if it was Kennel cough you would not treat at this point. Any further symptoms than right now and we are straight to my work. She's coming in with me on friday for my shift regardless so will have her checked over then. the vet in Mildura was happy that she did NOT hvae kennel cough so the temp could just be stress and the mild cough could well be from the et tube during her op. Time will tell. Eagle nursing eyes watching her here
