what's he on antibiotics for??? I completely agree, he should not be flying when not well. not just for the runs but also for whatever he is being treated for. it would be irresponsible of the company flying him to accept him too. Wouldn't want my dog on his flight.

errrr.....no they don't !!!! But I get what you are trying to say

Unless the person rescuing the dog isn't told (like I wasn't when I rescued some time back) and ends up with an absolute disaster on their hands and MORE problems than the initial owner as time has passed and behaviours have now progressed. unfortunately the end in this kind of situation is usually not desirable. mine ended in Euthanasia and I was the one to spend lots of time, effort and money on behaviourists and different possible solutions. if you don't deal with it NOW it will get harder and harder and the chance of resolving the dogs' issues will get harder and harder. I wish you luck, and hope you are genuine in trying to work it out. If you DO decide to rehome make sure you are HONEST as lives are at stake. Both human, your dog and that of other pets. And chances are the new well meaning owner will get the blame for destroying a dog like I did. But in all probability by the time YOU pass the dog on to someone else the upheaval in the dogs life coupled with the issues already present are going to be just too much. I wish you and your dog well in whatever you decide.

Cheapest Flight Options For Dogs?
matilda1 replied to blackbirdblue's topic in General Dog Discussion
JetPets all the way. I have used them in the past and not only were they very reasonably priced but the service was SUPER. Dog arrived in good condition and all handlers are dog people themselves. I have recently used dogtainers as well as I could not get a booking on the day required with jetPets and they were fine, but more expensive. -
Puppy With Suspected Parvo - Only Had Him 7 Days!
matilda1 replied to erikajayne's topic in Puppy Chat
It's a myth. We see just as many white or brown dogs with parvo -
A controlled walk is definately better than zoomies. my Skye is starting to do zoomies too. She's a Kelpie who now has been kept quiet all together for over 3 weeks and she's gone NUTS. I am taking the stitches out tomorrow, so she will be very relieved I am sure (as will I)

many years ago we used to sell and endorse milbemax a lot in General Practice. It's quite a good product so i am not sure why it is not as commonly heard of or used as it used to be? I guess the other companies like Interceptor have spent more money on packaging and advertising.

As a general rule of thumb if it hasn't gone back in within 24 hours you need veterinary attention. The gland can dry out and cause problems if prolapsed any longer than this. in most cases if you have had a cherry eye once it will be a repeat offender and in the long run it may be better to treat. having said that...my JRT had a cherry eye once and it has never played up again.

Tret The Parkour Dog From The Ukraine
matilda1 replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
My thoughts exactly. All very nice and novel, but how do you keep the bugger confined? And I hadn't seen it before either...thanks for sharing :D -
NO, not a symptom of snake bite at all. At the end of the day only YOU can make the decision if you need to go to the vet or not. Everyone else (as good intensions as they have, bless) are only speculating. Only YOU can see your dog and can determine how uncomfortable she is and how worried you are. I am sure you will make the right decision, and the vet isn't far away, so that's a bonus. I hope she's well this morning for you

We've just started herding with our two dogs. we are very new to it all and have much to learn. but we love it. Katie (the blue heeler) has just done the beginners course to get us on our way, and Skye our Kelpie is yet to have a run with us, but i would say she has done some in the past. She's a rescue from Mildura, but if the way she herds the cats into one corner of the lounge room is anything to go by, she should do well.

Question About Microchips And Contacts
matilda1 replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
We often get strays in our clinic, sometimes you just can't get hold of owners and sometimes they just take their sweet time to collect their pets. Could have been away for the weekend or anything. We charge a small holding fee to encourage prompt collection. Our fee is much much much cheaper than the council, and still some owners argue over it. Their dog has in the meantime been fed, had a health check, had water, a comfy and safe bed and probably been walked too depending on how long it has been with us. People still complain. you'd think they would be thankful??? if owners don't come and collect within a reasonable time frame we move them on the council and the owners can pay the fine. We can only keep them for so long as we have patients to care for. but it surprises me time and time again, how little some people care that their dog has been out on the roads. I would be beside myself and so super thankful knowing they were safe now. I remember one guy on grandfinal day, we had 3 of his dogs (one pregnant), a nice member of the public brought in. We called him and he said he'd come and collect AFTER the football match, then he phoned and said he had drunk too much, could he come and collect them another day?? Errr..................NO the pregnant girl had recieved a bath and a brush by our junior nurse and had all her mats brushed out. She looked a million dollars by the time she went home. He never thanked us. We threatened to send them to the pound. he turned up the next day to collect them and then ranted and raved and screamed at us over the holding fee charged per dog. If he'd come to collect them immediately we probably would have even been happy to waive the fee. people are strange. -
Half your luck KTB. katie STILL has accidents inside the house. So i am just please when she actually lets us know she needs to go out. Skye is really good, I don't think she was ever house trained but is just such a clean dog, she doesn't want to do it inside.

Just remember that if you allow your bitch to have more than one 'season' there are limited health benefits of spaying after that. I recommend spay around 6 months prior to the first season, but I am a Vet nurse and base my decision on health reasons not performance. At the end o the day, ever owner is different and the decision is entirely yours. personal prefernce really.

many years ago i had a Rottweiler and her coat turned a very light brown from black. Turned out she had a Thyroid problem. This might not be your problem at all, but i thought I would mention it.

Mine do it too....bigger on ears but if out of reah they will do the lips as well. Whatever they can reach on the bigger dogs. it's definately a submissive thing too....

Our Kelpie's resp rate is definately higher than our other dogs when sleeping, and just as she is falling asleep too. She's not panting, but definately has a higher resp rate. It's the resp effort you need to be watchful about. take her in for a once over if you are concerned. Different breed and different sizes of dogs all have different ranges of :narmal' for resp rates and heart rates, so it's a matter of getting familiar with YOUR dogs normal ranges. but I always reccommend a trip to the vet if you are concerned. Bets case scenario you are paying a consult fee for peace of mind

Is There Much Fat In Chicken Necks?
matilda1 replied to LDH's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't reccomment it. -
Oh, I'm in Sydney that day, otherwise I would love to have attended.

I have a couple of each. one of my JRT's loves nothing better than to sleep in if by your side, the kelpie bounces out of bed but again, once toileted she will happily curl up and go back to sleep. The Cattle dog is wide awake once awake. There's no settling her back down, but she's really funny when she goes to sleep at night. lots of stretching and loud groaning going on like an old man.
