BC's are prone to Thyroid problems and other related issues but that doesn't automatically mean yours is one fo them. he might just have rubbed it out, or have a mild allergy. but if you are worried having the thyroid tested is just a simple blood test. Ask for a T4 If nothing else it will put your mind at ease.

Katie seems to have stopped pooping blanket However she is now pooping some blue and red chew toy which I have no idea where it came from. She's a foreign body waiting to happen. She digs giant craters in the dog run and finds all sorts of stuff which was buried in the 1800's. She should have been an archeologist. I have been feeding her really yucky horrible cheap tinned food for the last 4 meals as I know it will make her poo sloppy and get things pushed through. This worked well and she is back on dry food now. I am confident it's all out I can't believe the crap this dog ingests and manages to push through without any problems. I think I have been very lucky. I do of course have her insured and basically have work on stand-by to go in for an ex-lap if need be But no....she's fine. She actually seems to like her newspaper bedding. I used to have to PUSH her into her crate at bed time and now she just strolls in on her own free will. So I figure she likes it.

I actually gave her a syringe full of paraffin oil, will give another in a few days just to make sure. Blanket still coming out at times.

I was thinking that too My ACD and Kelpie never hump.

I started off with hessian. Didn't work for us unfortunately and the woolen blanket is the culprit this time. It's been 4 days now on newspaper and she is still passing bits of wool blanket in her faeces. At least it's coming out, but I do worry that it's taken 4 days. I go in for Ex lap surgeries all the time at work, I really don't want to do it on my own dog right now. She's eating and drinking fine and going to the toilet fine, she's bright and happy and has no abdominal pain (just Kennell cough thanks to skye) so I will keep on with my 'poo-ology studies' daily for now until I am happy they are back to normal. She has stopped shredding the newspaper so that's a good sign.

I have one serial humper. A JRTx, but his humping stems from lack of confidence. he is a very insecure dog and sometimes when things get too much this is how he copes. he also follows my husband around and humps his leg when he doesn't want him to leave. A little bit similar to a small child clinging to your leg screaming "don't leave me" Humping has very little to nothing to do with sexual drives. (unless your dog is entire and he is actually trying to mate) My other JRTx (who is a spayed female) has just started jumping up and trying to hump our new spayed female Kelpie. In this case she is trying to gain acceptance into the new bond the Kelpie and the Blue Heeler have and establish some sort of power/dominance.

I am the same. My partner thinks I am bonkers, but I definitely find it comforting I'm with these two I must admit if they get to a certain stage of smelly they will get a bath and I always make sure their bedding is clean. but a normal amount of doggie smell makes my house a home :D I have 4 dogs and 3 cats. The dogs are not allowed on the furniture unless invited to do so, and i keep the kitty litter in the laundry and it's always clean. Sure can tell when the blue heeler farts though Afterthought: Maybe I don't notice because I work with animals too??

and to answer your second quesstion, Katie is now 7 months old and wakes at 5.30 am every morning. And she doesn't care if it is Sunday. have to get up and take her to the toilet at that point, but she will settle again for a couple of hours after that. By 8.30 I have to let her out or she just goes crazy, but if I want a sleep in they all just go into the dog run. We have 4 dogs so that's four crates in the lounge room, and four toilet stops and 4 to get into the dog run. It's my morning weight loss routine.

hehehehehe I used to do this as a kid and my mum had to sit with me. I eventually grew out of it Sorry, but it's true. I personally would just make sure he has everything he needs, has been to the toilet, can't hurt himself on anything and then it's just 'tough love' and let him sort it out. he'll stop soon enough.

four dogs in my household. 3 girls and one boy but he's in touch with his feminine side. I just find the girls more loyal and switched on. Just personal preference.

Originally thought to be an urban legend, it is now known that raisins and grapes are indeed toxic to dogs. The type of grape and the type of dog doesn't seem to matter, and the toxic amount may be a small serving to several ounces. A computerized animal toxicity database helped veterinarians see a trend in 1989, noticing that in some cases of acute renal failure (sudden kidney failure) dogs shared a common history: the consumption of raisins or grapes just prior to the kidney failure. The type of grape or raisin doesn't seem to matter, and the amount consumed may be a single serving of raisins or a pound or more of grapes. (Raisins are much more concentrated.) Researchers are exploring the possibilities: a mycotoxin (fungal toxin), pesticide, herbicide or heavy metals, but thus far the actual toxin is unknown at this time.

well she's been sleeping on nespaper for the last 3 nights now,and she shredded some of it the first night, but no more shredding since then. I will let her sleep on it a little longer, as I really don't want her eating her bedding. I've been lucky so for that none of it has gotten stuck, but I am not risking it. She seems fine on the newspaper, I think I 'feel' worse thinking she doesn't have a nice fluffy blanket tha she does. She really doesn't care much either way.

Don;t blame yourself. There is a reason these things are called ACCIDENTS You are obviously watching her closely. you are through the danger period now, so you can probably start to relax a little. I am watching my dog very closely right now because she ate her bed
-
Hmm....very valis point. And also will i be teaching her to shred her bedding by allowing it with newspaper?? Arrghhhhh...i don't t know what to do. I just really worry about an obstruction with all this blanket and bedding eating. She can tear strips off a pure wool thick blanket.

you might have been lucky :D
-
hehehe, I'll fix her little red wagon. Gathering supplies today. :D

I have just done a search around the house for newspaper and have none for tonight but will get some from the pile at work tomorrow. So one more night on some ripped bedding ....WITH a chew toy and then will change to newspaper tomorrow night. thanks so much for your help :D :D

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !!!! That's exactly the kind of solution I was hoping for and was too dumb to think of myself. off to collect all the old papers now. you're a life saver.

Yep, pretty much. it does vary from patient to patient but it doesn't sound unrealistic to me, however I do suggest that if your friend is going to have a close relationship with their vet from now on, they find one they like.

A Scare On My Walk The Other Morning
matilda1 replied to all that glitters's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, it clearly says FUNKYTOWN...and when you know where that is you know that everyone calls it that. -
Katie swallows giant strips of any bedding I give her and then does these poo's completely made up of blanket. I don't want to end up in surgery with her. I am afraid that if I take the bedding away from her though, she will eat the plastic lining of the crate and that will be worse. Will try her tonight with a chew toy in her crate.

Katie is a little older now (6 months) and has suddenly started eating her bedding. She sleeps in a soft crate at night and I have already removed all fluffy filled type bedding as she pulled the foam out of these. I then started using a wool blanket, well she's now eaten parts of that too. I have been very lucky that all fibres ingested have so far passed through and come out in her stools but I am worried that obviously this causes a very high risk of a foreign body. I do have her nsured, but that doesn't mean I WANT to take her to surgery. So the woolen blanket has been taken away too. I switched to a giant polar fleece blanket as she didn't seem too interested in eating this, well this morning, it too had giant holes in it. no pieces of polar fleece to be found, so obviously ingested. Does anyone have any advice on what to do now. I don't like the idea og her sleeping on nothing, and worry that she'll start to eat the crate then. I never hear her doing this to come out and catch her in the act to tell her off. Tonight I am giving her some chew toys in he crate to try and prevent it. Last night I has Skye in her crate with her (it's a giant crate) for company and thught that this might distract her from eating her bedding, but that didn;t work either and I don't want her teaching Skye the bad behaviour. In their outside Kennel they have straw and she doesn't chew on this. but I can't have straw in the lounge room for obvious reasons.
