Christmas And The People Who Foster The Most In Need
heroeswit replied to Little Catdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with all these posts I think you are preaching to the wrong people. I donate to my local rescues and others. I don't see why our dogs aren't entitled to something special (not useless) just because our dogs are looked after by caring individuals. Grow up. -

Already Have Most Of The Things For Your New Puppy?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in Puppy Chat
@ Esky: Not any more with the government changing the import rules from Sweden I would not get the puppy until it was at least 10 months old. I'm not comfortable with that. So I am hoping for a puppy from Saffioraire Kennel if there is a suitable puppy and then I will hopefully be able to import semen from the lines I am after for a litter in the future. -
So I am waiting to find out if I am definitely getting a puppy. I've been making a list of all the things I need to get for the pup and the only things that I don't already have is a crate/bed, collar, & food. I was just wondering how many people have found that they already have all the things they need or only need to get a couple of things? How prepared were/are you?

What Dog-related Products Would You Buy?
heroeswit replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would get an acreage property minimum 5 acres with specially built house with dogs in mind - whelping room, grooming room with anivac products, toys room with 4 of every dog toy available etc. Indoor dog swimming pool, fully landscaped garden with people to look after it (I would kill it no problems ) Oh a dam would be good too can't have too much water Now for shows Mazda BT-50 Crew Cab utility with canopy plus Jayco Toy Hauler for travelling in comfort. also a dog trailer for closer shows. Also a team of assistants would be nice (good looking guys ) -
Thanks Sheena

How Can I Stop A Dog From Going Through Our Bump Gate?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
We are currently getting out when we are coming home. it is more of a convenience for us with our weather. We originally had it fitted cause my father was disabled. I have had a couple of days off so I have been able to do a few focused sessions de-sensitising him to the open gate using a long lead and lots of praise for him when he stayed inside the yard. It seems to have helped as he is now staying back from the gate as we are coming in, but it is going to take a lot more training for us to be confident that he won't leave the yard. We are still going to get the invisible fence for training and if we have any other issues with the dogs getting out. The bump gate is good if you are trying to keep bigger animals/ dogs out/ in, it doesn't work for dogs that are flexible or small because they just go straight underneath the gate. Plus we have added a plastic pipe to the bottom of the fence as it seems to stop most smaller dogs (ie border collie size) getting under but if the dogs are determined they can still get under. -
How Can I Stop A Dog From Going Through Our Bump Gate?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for all your comments guys. I am going to get a containment system and see how we go. I am not going to let mum PTS there are other things we can do. So I'll just have to pay for another bump gate so he can't get out if the containment system doesn't work. I also will be doing heaps more training and fun with him so we can keep him. I know it sounds like we aren't doing anything but I have been trying. -
How Can I Stop A Dog From Going Through Our Bump Gate?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have suggested this to my mum but she doesn't want any more fences put up and she won't listen to that suggestion -
My Great Dane Cross (outside dog only) has decided that he want to go through our bump gate everytime we drive in. He wanders the street (almost no traffic) and he won't listen to me when I call him. I now have the neighbours complaining and he took one of the neighbours chooks (I think he only took it from this neighbours place is becuase I have finally got her to stop feeding him and now he thinks that there is food there). I have been training him to obey me but he was my father's dog before he died and then my sisters dog after that until she moved away for Uni. My mum and I are at a loss as to what we can do. We have tried putting on a lead until we drive into the yard but he just pulls straight out of the collar. We are now hoping to have him on a chain when we are not home but I don't want to with all the horror stories I have heard about. Mum is so fed up with all the problems with this dog that today she said that because noone would want him the only other option would be to PTS I am hoping there are other options I can try. Please give me any suggestions Thanks PS http://www.bumpgates.com/ this is the bump gate website if you are wondering what it is

Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well so far no more food over the fence so it is a good start. Hopefully I won't have to go to any more drastic measures to get through to her. Only time will tell. -
Hi I'm hopefully going to be starting showing next year. Any location I will be going to will require me to camp so I was wondering what do you do when you don't have someone else with you to help setup. What sort of tent/ shelter do you use? How big? What Gazebos are easy to setup with only one person? I only have a small car with no tow ball so a trailer is out off the running

Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That is another worry I have had, because they do fight over food. Well I talked to her this afternoon. Told her that the vet had put my older dog on an extremely restrictive diet because he was extremely and I was just wondering if she was feeding them anything. She then told me that she occasionally feeds them "bones" and that she didn't see how he could be overweight because he looks great. When I told her he was 15kg over the weight he should be she was shocked and said she isn't going to feed them any more "biscuit bones" and that she was only giving them to the dogs in the first place because they always sit at the fence looking lonely I proceeded to tell that they were just sitting there watching the activity in her yard ie chooks, cats & her gardening etc. So now she has promised not to feed them anything I'll just have to wait and see if it worked. Next months weigh in should be interesting. if this doesn't work I will be using a lot more of the suggestion everyone has made. Thanks -
Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?

Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?
heroeswit replied to heroeswit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have told her that before and she has just ignored me so I want something more forceful. I think I will just tell her again not to feed them and if she continues I'll just have to put up a fence to keep them away from her -
I have a really nice lady living next door and I have been thinking that she has returned to throwing bread over the fence for my dogs to go crazy over. I haven't been able to catch her doing it until yesterday. Now since we are stuck having them for neighbours I am looking for reasons that I can tell her that won't seem aggressive even though that is how I feel. My great dane x is extremely over-weight and I have had to cut his diet right back. My white shepherd is in perfect condition but she never stops so that might help. If anyone has any ideas please post as I am desperate

I'm trying to decide which dryer to buy. I have a short coated cross breed and a medium/long double coat shepherd. What do you use to groom your dogs for shows etc.
