    Vet Bills

It's as useful and informative as the article I read a month or so ago that revealed the shocking conspiracy that 7-11 style convenience stores charge higher prices than normal supermarkets.
  2. Every few months, even up to 6 months apart sometimes. Not all the nails need to be trimmed but there are a few that don't wear down enough. We got a dremel specifically for her nails and never used it...should get onto that. I usually take the lazy option and just pop into the vet.
  3. I remember when I showed Billie how to close the push-doors on our tv cabinet...she quickly figured out how to open them again so of course all we heard for the next fortnight was the click of her opening and closing the doors over and over.
  4. Billie used to get crazy legs at night before we put her to bed. Always had to poo afterward so I made sure to send her outside while she was carrying on. Now she just puts herself to bed quite early in the evening. My little one is all grown up now!
  5. My dog won't eat fish heads or most whole fish. Loves sardines from a tin but fresh sardines are ignored.
  6. We had cats and electric fences growing up and they had no difficulty avoid contact whilst crossing them. The secure door TSD suggested sounds like a good idea if you can't get the neighbours to contain their cat somehow.
  7. Billie jumps on anyone who sneezes.
  8. I'm not sure that is the correct interpretation melzawelza. NSW Companion Animals Act 1998 I believe a dog teathered to a fixed object or structure is not held or secured to a person and further, it is only permitted in off-leash type areas. This is understood in regard to the meaning of 'on leash' which is inclusive of being held (or secured to) the person. Regards. If you keep reading: It is legal, but as you said earlier you could still be charged depending on the dog's behaviour while secured.
  9. I fell out of love with my Dyson for a while...until one day I pulled the hose straight and realised I couldn't clearly see daylight at the other end. Eventually I dislodged all manner of splinters tangled with hair and other dirt. Works much better without the blockage :D
  10. That is what I did....didn't even bother wiping the snart off the back windows. Dealer agreed on a trade in price sight unseen so I wasn't about to spend time improving it. Felt a little embarrassed when I handed the keys over but quickly forgot in the haste to get new car home before a nearby hail storm got to us.
  11. I invite my dog into bed instead. She'll either snuggle up so we can both sleep in, or take a quick pat then go outside and amuse herself.
  12. Cute :) Does he get sunburnt? Billie hates the hot midday sun. You throw a toy into the yard and she grabs it and runs straight back to the shade of the fenceline. She doesn't stand out in the sun unless you are doing something...walking, playing etc. and even then she will sometimes move back to the shade and wait for you to follow. Works for me as I'm very fair and get pink after only a few minutes.
  13. My parcel was delivered to work when I was away and my helpful boss opened it to see if it was anything urgent. The next day he handed me the box very sheepishly and apologised for opening a 'private' parcel...I had no idea why he was acting so strangely until I opened the box and saw the safe stix on top.
  14. Poor Ziggy Billie tried to eat one on the weekend. I gave her some frozen bones to take the edge off but she was quiet for the rest of the evening. OH burned the nest later.
  15. Wonderful! I can replace the popular toys I have 'misplaced' from my last order. They just seem to find their way over the fence, into deep water when doglet doesn't feel like retrieving them, up in trees at the park that are too tall for either of us to rescue...I'd better get several of each.
  16. Tug-a-jug is very different to Wobbler/Pyramid/Bob-a-lot.
  17. Billie is an excellent swimmer but she likes to chase any water splash so deliberately raises a paw to make her own splash. Strangers often smile politely at what they think is her swimming style then laugh when the realise she is doing it for fun. She will also ride the current if there is one. OH played hero the first time he saw her do this, sprinting along the bank and jumping in to save her...only to then watch her run back up the bank and jump in for another turn.
  18. I am thankful we have floorboards! However one Christmas Eve Oscar decided to vomit up dog poo on our doona Thankfully the dry cleaners were still open! I only have one rug ... I have about 3 rugs in the house, the rest is floorboards. It can be guaranteed if Max needs to puke she will run to a rug to do it. What is it with dogs liking a nice soft place to land their vomit??? I like to think mine is cleverly avoiding splashback....takes my mind off the cost of carpet cleaning for a moment anyway.
  19. Woolworths sell lamb forequarter pieces (not chops, they are pyramid-esque chunks) in the human section that are quite meaty.
  20. We have this problem too. I remember taking Billie in at short notice and seeing a different vet who must have noted that she appeared happy and energetic. We were back the next day to see our regular vet who commented straight away that she wasn't as excited as usual so thought Billie had gone downhill from the day before...until she spoke with the other vet and realised that even a bad day for vet-loving Billie looks like a great day to a stranger.
  21. Billie did this as a puppy...cheeky little things! She still tries it on occasionally on cold mornings so she can get back inside quickly.
  22. I think SIL (and/or MIL) would stay at our house and take care of Billie if we were both seriously injured or incapacitated. In an emergency situation...a close friend has keys to our house and wouldn't hesitate to check on Billie if she thought anything was amiss. She works for the same company I do and would most likely be first point of contact if I didn't show up at work one day so I am comfortable Billie wouldn't be alone for too long if the worst happened. FIL's dog was alone for up to a week when he died and we were so grateful for the concerned neighbour who pushed food and water under the gate for him.
  23. Oh Hamish is absolutely gorgeous! I hope he is settling in well.
  24. Billie has one glass water bowl and another ceramic. In hot weather, I put out extra water in stainless bowls. She prefers the glass bowl and only seems to drink from the others if the glass one is empty or inaccessible. Food goes in ceramic bowls. She is not rough on her dishes and I've not dropped any yet *touch wood*.
  25. It's nice to have choice. We went to Sandgate this year and it was lovely. I didn't notice any problems - just gorgeous dogs and owners strolling along the waterfront in the sunshine. I didn't even have to deflect any in-your-face greetings. I must confess to being a bad owner at the end though... we were relaxing at a picnic table in an off leash area with the dog sitting under the table against my leg enjoying a pat while our companions had a rumble, only to look down when she put her head in my lap and realise it wasn't my dog! A very similar looking BC that Billie had drawn my attention to earlier was chilling with me while she was playing around with someone else.
