  1. Staffordsrule thankyou and I have no idea what possessed my son to even attempt to pick her up. They dance together all the time. My son holds her front legs and they do a little dance. She lets him do almost anything to her... this just set alarm bells ringing for me and I do hope it was a once off. I have asked him not to do it again, as next time she may bite him. I do have to tread carefully in this area as I don't want to instil into him fear of dogs, that he once had... Thanks again, Kylie
  2. Look I have no idea why she growled at him. It can't be a medical thing as she didn't seem to mind me doing it. Maybe she didn't want to be moved away from mum? Could it be that simple? Growling is not a sign of aggression. Its how the dog communicates either thru play, when guarding or when sick etc... You can't say that as soon as a dog growls its being aggressive??? C'mon!! Yes she growled, but as wiser has pointed out, it was a warning to 'not do that too me please' and that is why I did it to her, to see if she was sore... But no, no sign of tenderness. She pretty much didn't want to be moved/touched and I want to understand why! Why now?
  3. I can't see how he could of hurt her... He is 5yrs old, Shelby is 18mnths and 18kgs Myszka I haven't said she sleeps on my bed, and she doesn't. She sleeps under the fire. They both come into my room as I'm waking up. My son usually asks for breakfast, and I answer him, then they are on the bed. Nothing different to this scenario except he tried to pick her up this morning. No bad vibes... they play wonderfully, although she thinks he is one of her litter mates and use to nip him a fair bit. She reacts to his high pitched play voice and her anxiety levels rise, but that is on the decline too, as I don't allow them to play much together anymore. If he was running around the yard she use to nip him and push him down. she doesn't do that anymore. She is improving and now this (if it is anything at all) If he had hurt her, then I would of hurt her. I tried picking her up in several spots around the ribs/belly and nothing. I think Ci maybe on the right track. Maybe a trust issue?? Thankyou to everyone that has had something constructive to say Regards, Kylie
  4. This morning, both dog and child were on my bed while I was waking up. They were mucking around and my son went to pick shelby up and she growled at him. I asked what that noise was, cause it sounded odd, and he said it was shelby... When I got up, I asked him to show me what he did, and she growled at him again. I then did the same thing to her, and she didn't growl. Whats going on with her? They haven't had any other problems. If anything, they have stopped playing mentally with each other, and he is slowly learning respect for dogs. As a pup, she growled at him once or twice while she was sleeping or going to bed. could this just be a grumpy dog at that time of morning??? I sure do hope so... How do I stop her from growling at him??? ARGH! If its not one thing, its another Kylie
  5. I think that northern suburbs club is run in Craige. I looked into when shelby was a pup. The sessions are held sunday mornings and you just go there, and find the registration table etc. I think from memory they start at 8am..... but to be on the safe side, go around 8:30am incase they start at 9am... Sorry I don't have a phone number for you There is another club in the hills. Stoneville I think it is... so either way, your looking at 30-40mins travel. I'm sure there is one closer then that but I cannot help you there, sorry again. Regards, Kylie
  6. Thanks Ricey, please do send it on
  7. Ricey can you PM me some details about anal glands please? Shelby thinks the carpet is better then the grass to drag her bum and it is making me feel ill.
  8. I have found out the hard way (spending $$$) that frontline hasn't worked with Shelby. Where do I buy the capstan from? The vet ? Going to have to throw $40 to Advantage and hope for the best
  9. My son had giardia in Darwin. Its found in the water. Normally happens when you have high down pours of rain.. It causes terrible stomach aches and it smells absolutely disgusting. for him it was antibiotics and acidopholous (sp?) good gut bacteria drinks/chewable tablets. Seems there are alot of things to cause the mucous poo in dogs, so I would take a sample to the vet (ewww)
  10. Does that chemical smell go after a few days? It really is a vulgar smell
  11. Ok I took the risk and its now been near 2 hours and no readness showing on her skin. She did the bolt on me and I had only got half of the bottle on her and it took me a good 15mins to coax her in coming back to me. A treat didn't even work. lol Finally got the rest of the bottle on her, but not sure if it went on properly. A bit of her fur is oily looking. She hasn't been scratching since I bathed her and I gave her a dose of garlic with some left overs I had in the fridge. After having one dog allergic to flea saliva some 14 years ago, I'm not risking another dog to get affected by the damn things!! btw its Frontline Plus.
  12. Thansk Jelly. I have opened the box No harm in asking if they will take it back I just don't want to risk it. Thanks again, Kylie
  13. Far out!!! I have just bought some frontline for my girl. She was so restless last nite, walking all over the house banging her thighs on the walls, computer table, my legs... I checked her out, she was licking furiously at her bottom (but can't reach it properly) so I gave her a warm bath and found a flea First one in 16months!!! probably thanks to the feral cats up the road :D Anyways, go down to the vet, they sell frontline and advantage and now I'm unsure whether to put the frontline on her ;) Vet told me not to put it on her yet so soon after a bath cause it works with the dogs natural oils?? is that right? Do I chance it and put it on her and hope for the best? I don't like that idea
  14. I feed my girl frozen frames/necks/wings and beef bones... but I DO run them under cold water so she doesn't get frost bite on her tongue
  15. There is a story about THE dog whisperer on the abc website.. Here is the link if anyone is interested in reading it. I found it interesting. Dog Whisperer EDIT: correcting the link.. sorry It's all fixed now!
  16. ;) Cowanbree He has to make it to Perth first ( I hope you do K9 ;) )
  17. hmmmm.... I wonder what they did way back when scientists weren't discovering whats good and whats bad. She gets bits of apple from my son and the pulped whole apples when in the juicer. Maybe all these things are bad for dogs because of the chemical diets they have been fed on. Are the tests about apple seeds done on dogs feed a BARF diet or a chemical diet? Gotta make you wonder?
  18. pewithers I use a juicer... it doubles for both of us at the same time... recipe is for 2 large glasses 4 medium carrots 2 long sticks celery 4 apples 4 pears I then mixed the pulp with some yoghurt and it didn't last at all. My staffy gobbled it up quick smart. I will use it to churn up other vege mixes but this one I do atleast 3 times a week...
  19. maxi, store the dogs raw meat/food in the exactly same way you would store your own food so the nutritional value in the food is kept at its best. I am reading "Give your dog a bone" by Dr Billinghurst and I would recommend it to anyone who is unsure whether to feed a RAW or Cooked or commercial dog food. I actually got it for the recipes and exactly how to feed the BARF diet but I am amazed at the amount of info in it regarding all things like storing the dogs food etc etc. I have borrowed my copy from the library.
  20. Sorry to hear about your beloved Molly
  21. Eventhough I have moved 3 hours away, I still take Shelby to the Ballajura Vet... they don't charge for stepping in the door. I have been given advice, worm tablets and not one consultation fee. They give 30% discount for pensioners/unemployed/seniors aswell. I have used the vets down here, but OMG the price... would rather take a trip, see the rellies and do some shopping so shelby can be seen to. Of course in an emergency we would go down the highway without a doubt! So really, guess I'm saying, I wouldn't change vets..lol
  22. Brax has touched me chrissie I think we have good news on this... no protien found??? I'm presuming in the urine and her bloods are ok.. How does a vet go from saying its myeloma to now everything is fine? I told him to change vets since they mis diagnosed HD 7 yrs ago to only realising just the other week it was a slipped disc ;)
  23. Thanks K9, have been in touch with chelseasmum...
  24. K9 do you know of anyone in WA that could show me how one works or how to properly use one? My staffy has taken 2 steps back in walking on lead... she managed to chew thru her halti while we had stopped for a chat.. and she pulls constantly on her normal leather collar... and continuoulsy chokes her self on the choker chain.. And even while on the halti she would pull and grunt all the way on walks...
  25. Gerogesfamily I have read a similar case while looking for documents on laws/legislations...
