Thanks, I have some, how do you give that to a dog?? worth a try. I definately think professional help will be next. How about rescue remedy , I think it's in chemist , calming blend .. Know a lady who used it on her rotti to calm down , worked well. If that fails there is always professional help .

thanks for the answers so far,I have fostered a few sammys and had one really badly destructive one, could not leave anything near her, shredded everything. She gets a big run and ball chase before I go out and that is also why she goes to doggy dare care the day before because it seems to make her a bit tired the next day, but I just dread coming home after I have been out. She has eaten through the bed mattress and the chair seat, and dug up the lino near the door to get out of the door. I will try to tape her, not sure how, I have tried to sneak out, but she works it out after a while. I have left tv on etc. I will try the diffuser and maybe look for a behaviouralist, I will try to take her to work but my brother takes his dog and it is not really dog friendly and of course she will have to be left sometimes. I guess I have found out why she was left at the pound We love her anyway and will try to work it out.

Hi everyone, I have posted this on another forum but have had no imput so am hoping someone here may help. I have a 12 month old Samoyed who is a rescue dog. I have had her for about 6 weeks and she is gorgeous and gets along with everyone really well. I go to work for 8+ hours on 2 days a week and she is left in the house with my older samoyed for company. She has become quite destructive while I am out and I am not sure if this is due to anxiety from being left or just plain boredom. I have tried kong balls and juicy bones and toys but none of this seems to work. She is not at all food focused, so that is not an option, my older sammy is just getting fatter!! I could put her in a crate but I know she will bark, thats OK but I really dont want to do that if i can avoid it and find another solutions. Does anyone think Feliway (sp) might be worth a try? I cant put her in the yard as I live on a small property and the fence would not hold up to her trying to get out and follow, also she is a digger, so if I built a garden pen it would have to be a real escape proof one. I would sooner have her in the house and know she is safe. Any ideas, she goes to doggy day care the day before I go to work to try to tire her out, but I cannot get her there on my work days, so that is not an option. Hoping someone might have an idea or two?

Hi - Needing some help, I have a 12month old Samoyed, she is a rescue dog, gorgeous girl, has had some training and very people focused,. I have to leave her to go to work for 2 days a week, long days, maybe 8 + hours. I have another samoyed, older, used to being left, they stay together, to give her company and support. She has started being very destructive, well, she has always been that way, since we have had her, but now it seems to be getting worse. She ripped up the seat of the lounge, jumped up on the tops and cleared everything off of it in the kitchen, tore up the garbage etc etc. I know I could put her in a small travelling pen for the day, but I really dont want to. I can shut her in the laundry but I think she will shred the doors. I have tried bones and kongs etc and toys, but she is not at all food focused, so that doesnt work and all that happens is my older overweight dog just gets fatter!! I am not sure if it is separation anxiety or boredom. any ideas. She goes to Doggy day care one day a week, the day before I go to work, but I cant get her there on the work days, so thats out. I thought of the stuff you put in the diffuser, name escapes me, do you think that would work or be worth a try?? Any suggestions, her behaviour is definately getting worse. Hoping someone can help with suggestions.

I have a niece who is looking to buy a west highland terrier. I would like her to buy one from a reputable breeder, not a puppy farm, can anyone please provide me with a contact for a puppy and preferably in the newcastle area, or sydney - at least. thanks

I agree with the water theory or a good hose when you catch it. I agree, cat owners need to be more responsible. I love cats and have 4, but would hate them to bother neighbours. I had a neighbour that had free range chooks once and they kept coming over to my yard, dogs caught one once and I felt awful, she loved them like i love my dogs, it got ugly as it started to encourage my dogs to try toget over the fence to the chooks, something they never did before, In the end I had to make my fence higher to stop her chooks getting over - but it worked, I think keeping harmony between the 2 of you is important, try the water and then maybe you could discuss putting some sort of deterrent on the fence, something awkward for the cat to get over, lattice? However, she would have to pay, and maybe she wont want to do that. Not much help I know. Just saw previous post, I really love that idea, have seen it before, trouble is will she pay for it. I know I would.

Hi Saam, any update on what happened to these 2 sammies? Yes, the renbury girl, as it turned out, has been adopted by a lovely person, seraphina on here, to Port Macquarie and the old girl from HAwkesbury pound is off to Victoria to find a new home, she is being fostered by Sno Paws, So I am very very happy and I know the 2 lovely sams will be too. THe Renbury girl was so matted that they thought she was a boy!! Someone kindly cleaned her up a lot prior to her desexing for her safety and she will be on her way at the end of the week. THe old lady is on her way to the Yarra Valley as I write this, THankyou for asking and thankyou to all who have helped.

I know this is probably off topic, but just a chance, at the moment there are 2 desparate samoyeds on the urgent rescue thread of DOL. One at Hawkesbury, a 9yo female surrender on the PTS list for early next week, and a poor young boy at Renbury pound that is in the most disgusting state it would most likely make you people cry.He is also on the PTS list for the next week, I thought I would post here in the wild off chance that someone may know someone keen on taking on a samoyed not for show but just for a pet. Sorry, dont flame me for posting here, but I am full and samoyed rescue is closed because of moving. I am desparate thanks

Tobias, the Newf Rescue We Took On Is Now Home
SAAM replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am so glad you have been able to take him and obviously love him so much, Newfies are such special dogs,I miss mine still and will always have a very special place in my heart for him, Good luck to Balcon and thankyou from me.X -
Nope - one of mine is real bone possessive and will really get stuck into any dog that comes near his bone. I have to be very careful with him, but the others dont share, they are just observant of each other. I do have one new dog, 10yo, that stole 2 small boxes of Lindt chocs off of a windowsill, ate one box, neatly without eating any paper, and hid the other under the lounge for later, while I was in the shower, have to keep everything really tucked away now!

Is there a cocker spaniel rescue in NSW please?? SAAM

If she is drinking I'd try the chicken broth too, you can make it very weak and watery to start with and once she is accepting it make it more meaty. Nutrigel, as others have suggested, is also good. She may have a very inflamed or damaged digestive system at this point, poor bub. hanks for all the advice, so far the BBQ chicken is being taken in very small quantities, but its a start, I got a couple of cans of puppy food from the vet for sick babies, i have watered it down and syringed some down her. I am popping a bit of nutri gel in and will try the scrambled egg, it can't hurt. She is drinking, so I will try the broth, Now I think she has a bit of constipation, which I am surprised at as i thought she would have been the opposite.

do you mean baby formula?? which one, are there different types, or is it just brands? haven't dealt with babies for a long time thanks for the advice,
-
Thanks for that , I will call them in a minute and see where I can get some, poor little things, they are so trusting and vulnerable, so makes me sad
-
thanks will get that this morning, why did my vet not suggest that. what is the best thing to start trying her to eat,?
-
I have a 8 week pup from the pound. Spent 6 days in the vets on a drip etc with either parvo or carona virus (sp). She has survived so far but is now skin and bone and I cannot get her to eat anything. She drinks quite well but even some lightly boiled chicken, puppy tin food, which is all I could find last night and kibble with a little chicken mince and softened inwater is all ignored. She is skin and bone and has absolutley no energy. So llathargic just peed her bed at one stage. I will call the vet, but have a lot of faith in you guys, any suggestions?? She is breaking my heart with her big sad eyes. SAAM

Best Clip Made About Fighting Bsl! Caution, Graphic.
SAAM replied to Beaglelover:)'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Amazing clip! Took my breath away, and took several attempts to watch it all the way through. My nephew and his friend have PBs and they are the most loving dogs I have known. I will show him this tomorrow. It was a really hard thing to watch. I will facebook it, how very sad and how very true! SAAM -
Hi Deelee Yes,, not sure about that, I leave mine in when not home as they are fine, not sure why she needs to leave him out, although I may be wrong, it might just be that he doesnt like to be out at all without her. I will get a bit of clarification, but i think its really a separation issue since he has never had much contact and comfort so he is stressed about losing it!! Anyway, she will be fine and she is never going to let him go, so all is good, I was just looking for suggestions for her. I think feeding him outside and treats and her having coffee or reading her paper etc outside will be a bit of a start. THanks for the input. SAAM
-
Hi and thanks for the suggestions. I have also suggested to her that she tries to feed him outside and maybe spend sometime outside with him, or if all else fails, maybe keep him in the laundry or garage for the day until she can work out a solution. Part of the problem is that he has been so neglected, just left outside totally that now he has had a taste of companionship, he doesnt want it to end I guess. Also as he has a physical problem and is so underweight, the playing and tiring out is a touch difficult, but I know that she will persevere and loves him so much that he will be OK, just trying to give her some ideas. Thanks anyway. Sally - SAAM

Hi all I am new to this forum but need help. A friend adopted a 5yo samoyed from the pound recently and he was very neglected, in every respect. She has been nuturing the darling and has had great success so far but has now found that he will not be put out in the back yard for any length of time without barking continually and trying to escape, which he has done successfully a couple of times. I know that it is only while she is at work or something and not a lifestyle. Any ideas on how to get him to stay outside for periods of time, happily? thanks for any tips. SAAM - sally
