The dog in question was a BB and was 12 wks old when sold buyer was unaware that all black points were required and that pink pigment was not showable, I seriously doubt if this dog had black points and no pink it would have been sold It is 11months old now and still same if anything pink pigment has 'grown' with dog and disappointed owner is no longer showing dog and planning on having desexed in next couple weeks - such a shame as they were very enthusiastic about promoting breed and enjoying showing.

Maybe we need to start a topic just devoted to colours & genetics in pedigree dogs as it is a very interesting topic and is one that has implications for breeders as well as the general public, many of whom visit this site when searching for a quality pup of any breed. I do know someone who recently acquired a dog which is of great conformation and breeding from a top line, but when they came along to their first show with this dog were very disappointed when told by the judge that dog did not meet standard and he did not know how it managed to be given full registration. Dog has pink nails on one foot and some pink pigment in nose and white face. I am scratching head on how this dog slipped through as well but won't go there

Meet And Greet Your Chosen Rescue Pup, What's A Fair Distance To H
zeebie replied to gwp4me's topic in General Dog Discussion
The benefits of modern technology, first you can have many pics via mobile and or computer, then there is option of video conferences via skype or you tube, with dog shown doing various activities and interacting with human and other dogs etc. If after seeing all this and I was satisfied with + all other boxes were checked and correct I would pursue if I felt this dog was right one for me. I know people who have flown from Australia to Europe to chose a puppy from a breeder to have imported for their kennel lines etc, but this is more a business element then just a pet, however these people could simply say yes whatever pup you think is best and leave it all up to the breeder. I personally travelled over 5000klm to collect my older dog when he was a puppy, and he is not a pedigree or a stud muffin, just a very very special dog. :D -
Border Collie Puppies Found - Hervey Bay Qld

Also could have been stolen and then dumped to avoid prosecution Late 2012 a car with 2 different breed dogs inside was stolen from outside local house in a few minute gap between owner driving in and walking to open front door, the offender stopped a few streets away and threw dogs out onto footpath, luckily a concerned local took them in and followed up so these dogs were returned to owner. -
Try the black it (De NOSE NOS) used on show dogs to fill in colour, it sticks hard and fast so would be harder to lick off, also you can get a product that will "set" it so it would last longer as well it is a natural gum used in cooking and beauty products and when mixed with water sets like gelatine only way better, you would need to mix the 2 components together and then paint on with fine brush.

:) Yep it works and mine simply runs to me and scratches at my leg or foot and then runs back to where issue is wanting me to follow. He can bark but chooses not too 99% of the time :)

From day 1 - I simply established a "no bark rule" anytime puppy made a sound that was not just a playful growl or little yap in play I would correct with one word 'uhh' so when out and about and exposed to many many experiences I always made them fun and rewarded quite approach and interaction. New pup joined household Feb 2012 is obviously role modelling off older dog and does not make a sound, watches & follows lead of older dog in every respect, they have had their run around, mad time, zoomie play with a little vocal interaction but NO barking. Amazingly both my dogs use their paws, mouths and noses to initiate contact with me, and 12 month old pup uses a muffled growl if I ignore her and she wants my attention. :) So I firmly believe if controlled from the outset it is far easier then trying to stop the situation once it is firmly ingrained. Like kids in a classroom if the learning is interesting enough you keep their attention, if it isn't then disruption begins

When do you want in Canberra by? Breed and age? Is dog going accompanied by owner or unaccompanied? Air transport can be arranged by yourself through Qantas who have sole right to fly animals in and out of Canberra as they are now only airline who has live cargo transit facility access. All you need is correct crate deliver to Freight depot here in Brisbane fill in paperwork pay money and send dog with details of who is to collect at other end. For extra fee you can have Jetpets do all the work for you including pick up dog from your location and deliver at other end. Especially if going on to Batemans bay from Canberra as this is another approx 2 hours by road. If whoever is collecting dog drives up to collect from Canberra this would save some $$

It is very sad in life when relationships break down, even sadder for all those who share attachments in any way with those whose relationship is crumbling. Having gone down this track this topic is very relevent. My older dog was very young when I met my partner they bonded well and there was many hours of interaction, we enjoyed life together like a family unit with dog being Furchild (as most confirmed dog lovers do!). We mutually took responsibility for sharing dog doings, and there was never any question who was the most knowledgeable re dogs overall wellbeing etc. So after 6 years together circumstances changed and my partner decided to 'move on' I was emotionally devastated as did not see this coming, "our" dog has never in my opinion gotten over 'losing' one of his family, he changed in his behaviour, initially constantly pacing, on alert to door knocks, sleeping on ex's pillow on the bed, being somewhat disinterested in our usual activities whereas previously if we had said car ride he would bolt to car suddenly it was 'ok see you later', and whenever we now go to places where we use to visit as a unit my dog goes wild with excitment searching everywhere and still to this day 5 yrs later if he sees any male person in distance who has a hat on he will pull my arm off to get to them, only to find it isn't who he thinks it is. So I personally believe that dogs are impacted by 'loss of human family' and as hard as it is, my belief is that like children in custody arrangements, dogs should have the opportunity to spend time with your partner as hard as it is for you and for him, it could be done in a way that gradually over time the visits could be less and less in between and this way there would be a gradual acceptance of change for all concerned. Emotions are high and mixed in these situations but given time (around 2yrs) things do settle and everyone can move on. I also know that due to my own emotional state at the time this impacted on how my dog behaved.

Cane fields = ALL snakes, they love it perfect environs for all the insects and rodents I have seen a RBB up on a electricity cable going across between posts to get to a birds nest up top of the 20metre high post, so yep all snakes have the ability to climb anything and everywhere if determined enough, food source = snake alert.

Yep definately needs stool sampling and blood samples done possibly salmonella http://www.dog-world.com.au/salmonellosis-in-dogs.htm which you can contract from dog as well as anyone else handling excreations, also Giardia is another bad little parasitic infection. Dog would need complete course of appropriate antibiotic medication + keep all water boiled to prevent reinfection with giardia, hard I know but lives in water in lakes/creeks/dams/tanks/ bowls that are not frequently washed and cleaned properly, some humans and animals develop a natural tolerance others don't and become very unwell. http://www.dog-world.com.au/giardia-in-dogs.htm Also you will need to keep dog away from any fowl droppings if you don't want a very expensive vet bill over and over.

All this snake talk must be catching I arrived home from work last night much later then usual around 1130pm and my normal routine is upstairs turn spot light on then back down let dogs outside into yard for toilet (they have indoor toilet mats for when I am at work)take plastic bags out to catch any rampant cane toads lurking in shadows. well being late I didn't go up and turn light on just opened back door and off they went running and jumping and happy to be out of heat and free  Suddenly Ms 13 month old poodle is doing her impersonation of a hunting dog where she stands dead still nose pointing to ground and front leg up, if I respond she will back away and normally I swoop on offending cane toad, so I trot on over into darkness and she moves back and i grab with bag only to suddenly see I have long thin slippery tail in hand well it got let go very quickly and as this "something" slithered off I bolted calling dogs into house, I raced up turned on spot lights returned to see 30cm hatchling snake of undertermined identity laying on grass. my best guess was a small python, worst case scenario was an eastern Brown which is totally uncommon in my area but could have come in under neighbours car on return yesterday from their Xmas camping trip. So not wanting it to take up residence and really wanting to properly identify reptile my country upbringing and brother who is heptologist came in handy to a degree. So while dogs howled and performed behind closed security door here I am attempting to encourage said beastie into specialised glass tank (lucky I had one handy)at 1am this morning. If it had been adult or bigger then 30cm I would have been on phone to brother to come visit, but with my snake loop and protection gear besides dying of heat exhaustion managed to manouver the thing into the lockable tank. Fiesty little thing obviously more scared then anything, but once contained settled nicely. Happy ending for all identification varified as a juvenile Hemiaspis signata (Marsh snake)Said snakey is now safely taking trip far far away to a remote bushland sanctuary, obviously combination of local fires +heat had it come to use my rock pool and sprinkler spray. Just hope it didn't invite others to the party  Have no problem meeting snakes in daylight hours but geez last thing I expected at night in my suburban back yard, so poor dogs will be having penned toilet area set up for night use now so I can closely monitor area prior to them going out. I don't recommend everyone take this approach better to call in an expert especially if adult snake Timely reminder to swat up on dog and human snake bite treatment and have kit at the ready. Signs of snake bite in pets include: * Sudden weakness followed by collapse. * Fang marks may or may not be visible, due to dog or cat's hair. * Bleeding puncture wound. * Swelling of the bitten area; can be sever and progress for more than a day. * Pain. * Blood does not clot. * Neurologic signs such as twitching, drooling, shaking or twitching of the muscles and difficulty blinking. * Vomiting. * Loss of bladder and bowel control. * Dilated pupils. * Ascending paralysis (hind legs affected first). * Blood in urine. If you think your pet has been bitten by a snake you should keep your pet calm & quiet and take it to a vet immediately. applying a pressure bandage – a firm bandage over and around the bite site (if on a limb)- to help slow the venom spreading to the heart. Do NOT wash the wound or apply a tourniquet. Try to obtain good description of snake for ID purposes to help with treatment.

Hopefully by now you have resolved the issue but if it is hell bent on coming to house it is because it is smelling water & food also wants cool and dark place to hang out so as suggessted put out flat pan with water in it, also some eggs or chicken meat and a box and very likely it will retreat into box and stay put after a feed and drink. My brother is a heptologist and is down your way but by time I get in contact and he gets to where you are the snake may be long gone. It is midnight now when I see this post so if still having trouble tomorrow just PM me and I will give him a call on his mobile and see what he can organise.

New born disposable nappies work quite well with added tail hole and with the tabs you can adjust according to dog size, I got some when on special at Aldi and put aside for when needed but have trialled these as well, initially it was run around do zoomies and figure out how to get them off but eventually just gave up and forgot they were there.

With regard to first question on topic of shade etc, if you are new to showing then what I did was go with my breeder a few times and shared her gazebo, took a look around at all the various shade ideas etc. I was already competing in agility comps and had acquired from oztrail direct manufacture which is based close to where I live in Brisbane so for a 2.4X2.4 oztrail compact which has 3 leg setting and steel not flimsy aluminium frame (seen alot of these buckle when forced etc)$179 at the time see website online http://www.theshadecentre.com.au/ When folded it is only 90cm long so fits into boots of small sedan, easy to manage etc and there is a trick to putting them up and closing if doing by yourself, PM me if you get one and I will go through steps. Often conformation shows I go to by time I unload everything, 3 hours later then is pack up go home so got a bit fed up with all the hassle so have now invested in larger vehicle 4WD wagon roof racks with new roll out awning http://www.rhinorack.com.au/AccSubCategory_Sunseeker-Awning_57.aspx there are many different brands around including oztrail which is cheapest at moment. Easy as just roll up park and pull it out my current gazebo sides including the reflective sides also can be attached if needed and if the rain comes down no problem.

Totally know where Poodlemum is coming from being owned by a poodle puppy  Yes we went down same track having had a totally different breed (boxer), previously and never having anything to do with puppy preschools or show specific training. I worked for a breeder at the time and just did what she told me and how she told me, and now know she had robot dogs (mine included). Now I am older and a little bit wiser one dog is totally obedience orientated and competed in this area and now agility. Miss Poodle has done all the preliminary puppy obedience classes and stacking is a huge issue as she is what I call 'bum aware', that is hates having her bum touched, so if judge is examining her down she will drop or go sideways anything to avoid her rear end being touched. so with lots of handling by lots of different people we have nearly overcome this problem. Next is stacking, suddenly at 13months she has finally decided that if mummy puts her in a particular position she must stay put until I give her the release command. So persistence pays off and don't fret too much it will come with maturity, and as was said by another poster once dog understands the different commands of 'Sit', 'down', 'stay' 'stand' etc then you will have minimal problems, so just keep working on it , rewarding and having lots of fun.

Many years ago when I first started conformation shows, they were of course used to promote breeds and mostly for breeders to showcase their stud dogs/bitches etc. As the economy changed and also the social setting with regard dogs spose we better change to make shows more appealing to everyone otherwise the majority of dog clubs would fold due to lack of membership etc, so we suddenly have more classes available we never had baby puppy or sweepstakes or neuter, but we did have lots of brace/team events and also many more property classes and state 'exhibits' which were only for dogs/bitches once they had reached a set number of points. So yes bring on the neuter clsses for those who for whatever reason want to show their beautiful breed but have had to have the necessary nip done. Also bring back more state bred classes and property classes and like what is being done this year with the open shows we may suddenly see an influx of support for some of the smaller dog clubs and breeds. :)

Oh yep Pers know all about the territory marking my usually fantastic controlled desexed boy went to visit somewhere recently which had multiple bitch's in varying stages of season and he ran around like maniac squirt here squirt there, and even went in persons house totally embarrassed as never ever done this in his life.

Don't forget the tests required before departure and all the AQIS paperwork etc prior to flight. Getting out is easy part getting back in is whole different story. This is info as it currently stands, bare in mind that if during your stay overseas there is any type of outbreak in europe then this would shed total new light on reimportation. also by when you are intending to travel one only quarrantine centre will be established in victoria http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/cat4?name=Greece

Parvo titre test would give answer to that question, even if vaccinated there is a difference in the level between a dog who is just vaccinated as opposed one who has actually suffered the infection. There are also other infections which could have caused neurological problems as well as something as simple as a beating as a young dog causing acquired brain injury. The dog could also have hearing and vision problems which would also make her more likely to bark as she is missing out on vital sensory input so is always in "high alert" mode. Have you thought about giving her a pup (young dog) as company and for her to bond with? This would have to be very carefully done though. Another way of treating is using hormone therapy. Good luck

desexed dogs still are males!!! You will need to keep them seperated otherwise if they should actually tie there could be damage done and also being the bitches first season you definately do not want any type of trauma associated as if you intend to breed this could create problems with behaviour later down the track. You can get bitches britches (little bikini pants) to use which you place on the bitch with little liner inside to help with soiling around house bedding etc, and stop the licking which can cause localised irritation. These pants will not stop dogs mating they are purely to use as an aid and you have to remove for dogs to go toilet etc. I have baby gates set up with a full high one on one side of a hallway and a 2nd one further down so no way can my desexed male dog get within cooee of my girl and I can let her out to go outside to toilet and keep him in and vice versa and also when I am away there is no way either can get near the other they both have plenty of freedom and yet sepearation for safety. I put all these things in place and have gotten her use to wearing the pants etc now so when time comes it will be accepted just like banding her hair and clipping has been. There is also a dog cologne product you can get to spray on bitch around tail and back legs to help with off setting the doggy phermones. and if you give chlorophyll tablets this also helps with decreasing scent.

Firstly as you don't know early beginnings of this dog is hard to say what has caused her current problems, but from the description it is very possible that this dog may have had parvo at an early age and managed to recover and this has left her with obviously neurological damage hence the shaking (quivering) when kept under control, dogs do this but when it is extreme it sets off alarm bells for other causes, then there is the incessent barking, this is probably a learned behaviour, but combined with the poor focus or short term attention span is more likely due to some neuro damage. This dog is also exhibiting antisocial behaviour in a pack structure, again remnants of early socialisation problems or lack of it. She needs lots of input! One on one initially, away from other dogs and excessive stimulation, if she is food focussed this is brilliant as this one source can be used to reinforce the desired behaviour. Teaching lots of tricks, shake hands, spin left spin right, roll over, touch etc etc. These are just as importnant as heeling, sit, drop etc. I would be swimming this dog (they can't bark when swimming), doing massage, and initally you need to get a specific drug prescribed from the vet which will calm her to a point where input can be received, this medication is used for storm phobic dogs and is similar to prozac for humans. From what you have described regarding her circling in the enclosure and the other dog interaction it really sounds like she is one very frustrated and misunderstood dog, with tendency to fear aggression, what is she like when out and about away from your normal environment, walking alone, do you have problems, does she seem interested in her surrounds or reluctant to walk? Definately sounds like this dog needs to be placed in a single dog home, you could still have contact but at least this way it would not need to be put down, maybe worth a trial to see if it makes a difference.

For those people with the large to extra large breeds the vet surgery in question does not expect them to be crated only to advise of appointment time and a back entrance is avaialable for any animal over a certain height and weight. The crating rule applies to dogs/cats/birds and reptiles, as often you will get felix fluff ball persion in at same time as george the parakeet and rufus the terrier, would make for very interesting waiting room with all the animal antics if they were not all contained.
