Can the stricture not be just surgically via endoscope removed, or alternatively a dilatation to enable ease of swallowing semi formed specific types of food and I have seen one dog who had a small direct tube (they are called Permanent Enteral Gastric tube - PEG) inserted into stomach and was drip fed via this all its life from age 6 ->12yrs, could still lap water and animalac (dog milk supplement).here is link to a dog who has a peg feeding device in site.

Recall = 'chicken necks' just called out as if I am calling their names and I have 2 dogs at break neck speed leaving anything and anyone to get to me. Started by giving the actual item (actually only little bits of chicken), then progressed to radom wing tips, and boy did this do the trick, brilliant recall Now However in saying that I can also get my older very experienced obedience dog to do a sit, stay, controlled recall under all sorts of distraction even passing CAT  puppy gal we are still working on the nice sit/stay/very close recall manners. :)

Dogs on Tour brand from super cheap Auto warehouse - $25 has waterproof back, seat belt holes with tie ons to keep in place around seat belt latch as well as head rest elastics. Good quality. My dogs do not shed hair but as I often have others in car that do I have also placed an old double sheetover this professional seat cover when carrying hair shedders that way I can remove and replace etc.

Stopped A Dog Attack This Morning...

Not wanting to cause ALL tradies any dis service but please guys /gals if you are on a building site or reno and you MUST bring your beloved work dog along to gaurd you and your equipment etc. Can you contain your dog some how? I am sick and tired of walking my dogs on leash around my neighbourhood to be confronted by these huge dogs slinking out from under/behind utes and trade vans, as well as lurking off into front yards and footpaths leaving their huge calling cards and tradies are unaware as on top of building or behind doors with machinary /radio blaring. too bad if I was screaming for help etc. My own recent reno saw my dogs confined for nearly 6 weeks and one tradie arrived with dog in tow let it out and it starts checking the place out before I realised it was even on site, I spoke to tradie and he replied off handed "oh he is all good won't hurt your dogs" and I replied I would prefer you tie him up or lock him on vehicle as my bitch is in season (the dog was entire). He laughed, so needless to say he didn't do any work on my property. Now my dogs get a drive in car to suburbs far removed which have safe puppy enclosed off lead area and are mostly retired communities so thankfully few dogs use these facilities. There is this little saying 'Duty of Care' and boy does it have impact in the legal world -
Maybe we all missed the original question which was about how her puppy was treated when attending ? puppy preschool. original post came in late at night maybe OP had just come home and was a tad traumatised about what had occurred with her puppy and was looking for support on this issue and also venting about friend's situation due to it also involving / same organisation And my answer to this would be if it was first night don't get too alarmed just be patient and see how second or third week pans out as often all the pups are same on first night very excited and you see all sorts of reactions/behaviours etc and usually they all sort each other out and hopefully the person running the class has some good qualifications in dog training if not go to another puppy preschool. :) Mine did the same and was smallest in group by third week she was going for the biggest pup in the group and they had a great time no more hiding behind me and screeching

Use newborn baby tab type nappies to stop any possible mess in car just cut a hole for the tail to go through :D they work really well. As for distraction therapy frisbee is always good I have several and as one is brought back I chuck the next can do it while I read paper etc this is a guaranteed wear out activity. If she is seriously food orientated freeze a small container of water with several chicken necks wings or other tasty morsels in it, then place out on grass and watch her go as she licks and chews to get to the treats, I call them doggie licks :) Use a rope tie a largelong leg meaty bone from a tree branch or post etc so dog has to really work to figure out how to get it down, you hang it just so they can just reach it when standing on hind legs, make rope in a loop around one end so eventually dog can pull it through.

Next time it may be toddlers running up street ahead of a parent heaven forbid -
Older dog has had previously a hot water bottle cover in shape of elephant, this is called Elle, and gets to travel absolutely everywhere we go, he sleeps with it one paw on it and head laying on it like a cushion, he also runs around after evening meal shaking it furiously, over the past 8 yrs it has had many repairs done latest being replacing ears with peices of an old grey washer (face cloth) New puppy plays tug -o-war with it and him, funny how she instinctively knew this was his most precious toy and commenced teasing him by running off with it New Puppy came home having been introduced to pinky bear a little flat merino wool bear - especially designed for new born babies of the human kind - I purchased it pre puppy and slept with it for a month when she was a week old it went to meet her and she was introduced to its scent, each time I visited over next 9 weeks pinky went along, when puppy came home she took instant liking to bear and it is her favourite gets dragged around, she finds it no matter wher i hide it and it is licked and snuggled, thrown around and much loved still even now she is nearly a year old so I can see another long association coming up. :D

Maybe in WA things are run differently but what I would personally do if I owned this dog is (A) immediately enroll it in some good quality obedience club to get it assessed and under some sort of control. (this would show any controlling body that this person is trying to do something toward improving the dogs behaviour) Next (b) Improve the fencing or build a suitable containment area to stop dog escaping and therefore needing to be "caught" © sounds like the dog does not get enough exercise and is bored and hence reason for escaping. Really need to know breed of dog, and age, and if desexed etc, as all these things could be contributing to the problem of why it keeps trying to run off - maybe looking for a mate etc, and also ?RSPCa may only be acting on what they beleive is an animal who may possibly become dangerous, so if current owner is seen to be doing all things possible then they would have hard time proving any negligence unless as other poster said the dog does attack someone.

Anyone interested in completing this online survey it is being carried out by Dr Chris Zink who is a noted USA Vet/author/judge and dog agility competitor. "To all my friends with canine athletes: I have designed an anonymous survey to help people learn more about the needs of canine athletes. It seems hard to believe to those of us who are passionate about canine sports, but there is hardly ANY research being done on injuries and conditions specifically affecting canine athletes. One of the big reasons is that the demographics of canine athletes and their people are not well known. This survey will start to change that. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CanineAthleteDemographics

Does this come up alongside your FB page? I have clicked on it before and it has taken me to a whole lot of misleading advertising material nothing to do with DOGS - just a sneeky way of attracting dog people into checking out this other product.

Just on another side line Thank you for doing that little phonetic break down on how to pronounce your breed name it has had me stumped for a while now, so now I will be able to finally say it correctly (I hope) Xoloitzcuintle -show low eats qweent lee-

In Qld multiple districts therefore all different regarding registration(number of animals allowed etc) requirements and COSTS. If you are a breeder and registered as such, or show your dogs, you get a discount in Brisbane district. If you have a customs dog/police dog or any other registered working dog, guide dog service dog etc = FREE they are registered but no fee. What I always find strange is those of us who do the right thing and register our dogs don't get any incentive, if desexed and proven by vets certification, registration fee is less, but nothing for being microchipped as well. Moreton shire while having very strict rules regarding number of animals according to land size etc at least recognise those dogs who are registered in obedience or agility clubs with a discount. Years ago we use to have multiple council officers attached to pounds who did random spot checks if you were out walking your dog, and we got a door knock and check once. But now cost measures have seen cut backs, and skyrocketing influx of "lost" dogs in shelters with no microchips, not desexed and not registered.

My little dog played 'ToTo" in wizard of OZ and just like child actors they had several dogs lined up for all the performances and they each had their particular shows to do and if one was having an off day they had the stand in ready to go on, it was so funny  We had to go in for original audition then got a call back, then another and finally had to go to the first full rehersal and see how he and several other dogs went with all the "lights, camera, action type hype, many of the dogs got their exit right there and then. We were very lucky and he did very very well although I was over it all by time season finished. We also did an audition for another individual solo musical but I think the casting people wanted 'big dogs' and not to be seen to discriminate the request was just made for suitable dogs to come along for audition. One of the dogs that got the role was a rehomed greyhound

Well now hopefully all surgery is over and healing just has to happen hopefully, it will all be behind and the road forward will show improvement, and yes it is a very difficult decision to make and I do know someone with similar situation with Border collie and in the end they did Euthanise dog as they totally understood how it was not about them it was all about her and how much she had to endure each day to just get up and walk to toilet etc, and she could no longer play with their other dogs etc, or play ball with the kids so her quality of life was very poor and she was only 2 and no where near as large a breed as your dog is. So very very sad do let us know how she is going and what your decision is As for the vet practice is hard to prove negligence, and failure of duty of care etc, and yes it is hard when it takes so long to get culture results back although they should have had an interim result in 3 days though. this would have shown organism but not necessarily sensitivities.

Greyhound Racings Dirty Little Secret Exposed
zeebie replied to Greyt's topic in General Dog Discussion
My apologies Lilli for the typo which I have corrected in the original post should have read ' every MONTH' if you looked at the collective data from Australain export sectors you would see just how many pedigree dogs and cats are purchased and sent to these countries, these are the registered ones there are also many who just get sold from BYB to overseas 'investors' as I said some are going to reputable breeders and kennels etc. Others however are just a commodity and are purchased, received and bred till death just for fur/meat/illegal fighting and in the greyhound instance already broken down dogs are filled with steroids and raced or go to fattening farms and sold on to recover initial outlay. Photo's of cute children with lovable dogs mean nothing unless you were there to see the pic taken anything can be photoshopped. I am not pointing the finger at any one culture or country just asian countries in general is where the high incidence of this is happening. Thank you Stan's mum for seeing my point and supporting what I was endeavouring to convey that every dog irrespective of its breed deserves a chance to have a life -
Bad news for you guys with all this leg and joint problems did you consider looking at it being heriditary? ****Elbow Dysplasia—This, as with hip dysplasia, is something some Newfoundlands are born with. Wear and time in the front legs (elbow joints) cause lameness by the time the Newfoundland is roughly a year old. ***** I know you have already gone down the surgey track and unfortuneately with all surgery there are risks one being infection and Staph in its many forms can be found everywhere even on the phone handset , and when you have a human or dog that has their immune system compromised through illness or surgery they are more prone to getting an overgrowth of this oppunistic bacteria and it just goes from there. It would not matter how strictly aseptic the surgery area was kept Staph is just one of those nasty, nasty bugs which lurks in the background and strikes when you least expect it, I would have expected given your dogs surgical history and type of surgery that IV antibiotic dosing would have been given at time of surgery and often it is continued for a few days post, but this does not always prevent this situation occurring as often one antibiotic does not necessarily cover all strains of bacteria especially the Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus (MRSA) and the Vanco Resistant Stap Aureus(VRSA). check this article out it may help you to understand the mechanics of what happened etc http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=3006&S=1 Hope all now goes well for puppy and that a suitable payment plan is available that is a lot of $$ to have had to spend so thankfully your dog is one of the very lucky ones to have such loving and caring owners

Another option is use a soft cell slip collar on normal lead and have treat pouch with yummies and out and about do lots of heeling and sit practice and reward-reward-reward :) When you see another dog and your dog even twitches just do a quick U turn and head in opposite direction when dog is under control ignoring dog reward-reward-reward with verbal praise "good dog" and treat. when your dog is sitting or walking well and ignoring other dog U turn and back toward dog again, this time straight away tell your dog through body language and voice 'heel' with a treat in front of nose walk straight past oncoming dog, if your dog reacts just stay calm, repeat 'heel' and by then you should be past other dog. I often get people I know with their dogs just to come along to practice this exercise and does not take long for dog to be reprogrammed to focus on treats and your commands rather then other dogs, also once settled you can then bring in another dog to walk a few feet behind and when your dog is comfortable with this you go to having other dog pass or come toward, have different people with different types of dogs so your dog gets use to this. Best idea is to attend a good obedience program and have dog monitored by qualified instructors and help you to learn how your body language sends signals to your dog etc. You will be amazed how quickly you and your dog are in sync and no more problems :)

What about instead of that cute little puppy under the tree with ribbon around neck, why not give her gift card with some nice vouchers to purchase her own puppy/dog supplies and one which would be for puppy of her choice, this way she gets to choose, which is really important in the whole bonding process, nothing worse then getting a puppy of any breed that you like but your mum takes one look and while not wanting to say anything doesn't really warm too. Also she could get involved with Guide dogs or Assistance dogs puppy raising and see how she feels about having the whole "new baby" thing and if she isn't up to it at least with one of these fosters they can go back whereas if you commit to a expensive puppy of breed who is going to have it if things don't work out. If she does manage the foster situation and this dog does not make the grade in training she is eligible to have it back to keep. Often the very fact people are involved in this puppy raising program means they get out and about with other puppy raisers and have a mutual interest etc. I know our family did same thing and we sort of forgot at the time my mum was a social butterfly so poor puppy was left alone alot and mum ended up getting so stressed with thie "naughty puppy", she also went on trips and each time one of us had to do the puppy sitting. She was only couple years older then your mum and when dog was 4yrs old mum became very ill and the next 2 yrs puppy spent time in exile being passed around to whoever was available, eventually we had to find a home for it, we felt so bad about this decision at the time, but now on reflection our good intentions in buying her this gorgeous dog sort of backfired. If however you really want to just buy this pup then consider -> eventual adult size in relation to your mum's height and strength and her mobility (daily walks etc) cost factor of upkeep for dog and yearly council registration on going for possibly 15years in relation to your mum's finances. coat type of dog will it need clipping, daily grooming or paid grooming, can she self bath or will dog need paid hydrobathing. Nail care as older humans start to get fragile skin and puppies love to play bite and can jump and scratch, does your mum have any medical condition that requires blood thinning medication or make her at higher risk of infection, or easier skin lacerations etc Residential considerations will the dog have plenty of play /exercise area, is there any likelihood your mum may need to move into a smaller dwelling where dog may not be allowed. Is it a barky breed and is it going to drive neighbours crazy therefore distancing your mum socially away from friendly neighbour interaction. I know you might think that above are silly but they really do make this decision of puppy for christmas very important to consider when looking at the bigger picture.

Had small vari crate to transport puppy from plane to home and on a few trips via car initially when she was only 9 - 14wks and too small for car harness. Then she had sudden growth spurt and although height at shoulder was suitable for this crate head height wasn't so it was off to buy next size up as we need a vari or similar due to frequent interstate air travel. I have 2 medium K9 brand soft crates one cost $110 other 2nd hand $55 plus freight on both. older dog introduced to soft crate at 4yrs old, pup almost from day one 9weeks, no chewing, no attempt whatsoever to destroy as we only did small sessions where front was zipped up and initally both dogs were in together - they are canvas and are HOT in QLD during warmer months. I recently purchased a "quick fix" fully collapsible solid wire crate from Sam's warehouse for $40 it has side door and front door which I have permently zip tired shut. This metal crate is so light and has removable PVC floor base I throw in a snuggly rug and have 2 attachable food/water bowls (on side of cage so cannot be stood in or knocked over etc). This crate was medium size and comfortably fits my mini poodle- 36cm at shoulder 51cm to top of head, and my silkyX -29cm at shoulder 39cm to top of head, as well. My friends 2 KCS were in it together recently when she went to set up her own crates it was a bit cramped but to give you idea of size it is perfect for one KCS. It fits in back cargo area of daughter's Nissan 4WD easily and fits on my sedan's back seat where I loop seatbelt around to keep it stable. Personally I found any crate, even the small vari was too heavy to try and carry with a dog in it, so when we go to airport I just walk dog on lead into foyer area of freight section and then she happily goes into crate and onto scales etc. This metal crate in a purpose made canvas bag now lives collapsed in boot of my car and when we go visiting to non dog households or anywhere I need emergency containment out it comes I am very happy with this item and for such a resonable price. if you want a super deluxe heavy duty galvanished zinc alloy one in a party colour you can get one when you decide how often you will use and if you will use etc as they are very expensive.

Have sent PM to both newbie puppy owners Trust me if i can manage this learning curve in 7 months you too can do it, and I have had to learn all the extensive grooming requirments for a poodle Starting out as a baby puppy with no pressure on her or me ment we both learnt how to move around the ring and mix with other doggies and owners etc, so by time she moved up to puppy class she was striding out like a pro (can't say I was though  ) We have had heaps of adventures and done so much learning and met so many wonderful supportive doggie people I feel like I have been showing for years instead of 7 months. There are classes held at Durack on ?Thursday night for people to learn the various aspects of ring etiquette etc, I am not sure of the details but either someone else on here may or office of Dogs QLD will help out.
