Endurance Test 2011 Thread
Sir Sniffalot replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks for all the replies, we are doing 6 km's 3 times a week and walking 1km 3 times a week with a day off or two if we have a show on. Aiming for a late June/ early July ET. Training with the bike is going great except he likes to work close to me and being on the bike makes no difference a few times l have knocked him with the pedal and l am worried his little cocker ears might get caught in the spokes, this is something we need to work on. We are training on the roads around town and get a good selection of surfaces to train -

How is everyone else going with their training ? How many km's are you doing and how often per week ? Regarding pad care l have started using paw paw cream what is eveyone else using ? -
Thanks for the info and advice. ll will have to look at our leads l use a size appropriate check chain and lead for obedience and a dainty one for showing as he can be abit strong. We certainly have to use new cues l use stand and stay for showing. Our sits will take awhile even when l guide him with my hands he looks at me as if to say, are you sure, l look better stacked

Hi All, We have just recently started obedience with our almost 2 year old boy who we show, just wondering how others went did you have any hiccups ? Does an automatic sit when you halt ever come or did you find your dog sitting in the show ring ? We have found when at our classes when we are asked to stand our boy takes that extra step forward to square himself up and the instructor shouts out dont let him fiddle, l know he's not fiddling it's what he's been taught to do. Do you have different commands for showing and obedience ? Any advice would be appreciated l dont want to confuse the poor bugger.

Is there much demand for the Altona one, what's the chance of missing out in a ballot ? l think l was reading earlier about pad care but can't seem to find it now how is everyone else addressing this ? -

Thanks for that, it looks like we will do Altona as the dog is not 2 till mid June, we are from a small country town so training for the distractions a park can offer could have been a problem -
Maybe a toilet break during the night will assist while you sort it out.

Is anyone doing the Altona one in Vic ? l was just wondering considering it is held at a public park does it present an issue with other dog walkers using the area, other bike riders and the general public just enjoy the area compared to an ET being held at KCC park or German Shepherd club grounds ? -

Oh l never thought about being balloted out, l would hate to put all that work in and not get a shot at it. So what happens if you are balloted out, is that it all over and you have to try your luck again next year or are you given first choice at another ET in your state etc ??? -

What a bummer Werribee isn't holding one, looks like KCC for us then. Had our first try with Molly next to the bike today she did great but riding one handed takes some getting use too, another few try's and she should be right for me to use both hands. -
Just wondering how everyone keeps their dogs cool camping at shows during the warmer months ???

Try the Forth Furlong in Cranbourne, it's opposite the race course, not expensive and dog friendly, they also have kennels if needed. -
Yep Tony's back.

Where did you get the springer from, l've been hunting for one to get Molly moving safely with the bike. -
We have a compact, great little gazebo even the kids can drag it out of the car and set it up. One of the legs no longer locks in (must be a common problem) after about 4 uses, now we wedge a peg in there to stop it sliding down.

In our trailer the two front compartents are bigger than the back, we first added non slip matting to the wooden floor then made to fit cushions which l made, each section has two, one on top of the other so they are nice and thick, l just throw them out and make more or wash them as needed.

Decided to pull the bike out of the shed and give it a go this morning before attempting it with the dog along side. l dont remember the bike seat being so small and l think the neighbours might scratch their eyes out if they saw me in Lycra riding down the street. Where is the SA one held, all the Vic ones are 5 + hours away. -

Oh l would love to do an ET with my girl, she usually does 5 - 6 Kms three times a week when the kids take their ponies out and she tags along although we have been keeping her home now that it's a little warmer. When is the Vic one held and does each state only hold one each year ? Is an ET limited to certain breeds ? -
She checked his nose and ears while he was sedated and said they looked fine, his nose was so full of boogers l am not sure how she could get a good look at it.
-
Had the boy off to the vet on Wednesday as l found a grass seed under his armpit, removed it but wanted antibiotic's just incase, the vet insisted on sedating him opening up the puncture and checking it was all out, it was but the trip cost $360. l mentioned to the vet about his nose one side is dry with dry boogers and his eye on that side seems to have alot of sleep in it, she thought nothing of it but l think he might have a grass seed up there. The other side of his nose is normal and the other eye is fine. He sneezes maybe once or twice a day he more so seems to be snorting like he is trying to blow his nose and even at that he rarely does it. Grass seed or something else ?

Not a happy camper, dogs groomed, trailer packed, accom paid, day off work and just rang to find out they did not get my entry apparently a bunch were stolen from the show sec's letter box. In our case we sent a money order and just assumed there was a delay posting out the numbers. l know 2 others that have missed out on entries too. -
It's not up yet, she is hoping to have it done tonight.

Ahhh, l couldn't find them either will have to check back later in the week.
