  1. Stella, so sorry you're not well. I can empathise. While I don't have a BC, I do have a boisterous lab and I've also found a quieter voice and slower movements definitely affect his energy. Not in a bad way! I do what you're doing on my bad days and give him mind work rather than physical. I think it's ok - he seems happy.
  2. Go Ziggy! What a beautiful looking dog with obvs smarts as well' (Maybe my next dog will be a Dalmatian?)
  3. Piling on to say that I hope she's ok. It was sounding so hopeful after the trainer's visit. Update when you can...
  4. Wow. Thank you. Can't add much to that. :D
  5. I don't get what's so hilarious about a dog's eyes showing white with fear. And if my dog growled at me, I'd be beside myself. Makes you wonder what other behaviours these poor animal exhibit that are dismissed as amusing. Most of those dogs were very distressed.
  6. I cany believe I didn't think of this. I'm seeing the Onc this week. She's got dogs so she's pretty sympathetic. I'll ask her if this would work.
  7. Oh I doubt he's kegally baiting them. I just got back from chatting to him about my worry. He lioves Ernie and is a good neighbour. He didn't admit to anything but I know he's very garden proud, and the rabbits have a warren in the neighbour on the other side of him. I'm almost 100% sure he's taken matters into his own hands. Hopefully, he will stop and think now. He did offer to walk my fence line and check for any weaknesses I've missed. I can't really push the issue without straight our calling him a liar.
  8. My Anstaff had these and it was a flea allergy. Hopefully, it's not that in your case.
  9. Oh wow. If any of you get back into making collars I'd like to be first on your list. I'm still looking for the perfect leather collar.
  10. Now I'm going to have to live long enough to outlive my dog. This terrifies me.
  11. Is this the same stuff used for rabbits? We have a serious feral rabbit problem - council won't do anything - and I'm pretty sure the guy next door is baiting the rabbits. Our yard is secure as far as I can see from my last walk round but I'm terrified that Ernie will get hold of a baited bunny.
  12. Ernie's desexed and still hadn't met a dog, person, stick or inanimate object that isn't his BFF. Desexing won't do a thing - it's his nature. I love Bull Terriers. All those wiggles.
  13. Dear Big Daz Boring day? People not paying attention to you? Go find someone else to troll. My posts are true and you know nothing about me. Go away. You're making a fool of yourself.
  14. I'd love to put Ernie in raw but as I'm doing chemotherapy and I'm immuno comprised - my oncologist would strongly prefer I didn't handle raw meat; tripe; etc. Gonna hook at yoghurt, probiotics, charcoal biscuits and switch from Grain Free to All Stages. One at a time, of course. If that doesn't work, I'll try phasing out his 'extras' or issue gas masks.
  15. What a gorgeous dog. What an amazing owner. Happy birthday to you both.
  16. Loveable Ernie is sitting at my feet, ffffting away and my eyes are tearing. I'm hoping someone here can help. He gets plenty of exercise (1 hour walk plus play) He eats healthily (I think) He gets Canidae Grain Free with sardines 1x a week, a chicken carcass 1x a week, chicken necks (3) 3x a week, a brisket bone 1x a week, and on Sundays - just plain kibble. His training treats are chicken/beef/roo jerky in tiny morsels. In the interests of full disclosure, his high value treat when I'm teaching something new is (cringe) cheese Twisties in tiny bits. I'm phasing out food rewards so really, I dont have to reduce his diet much. He's lean and fit. He has the most amazing farts, to crudely put it. He can reduce grown men to tears and children to run screaming. I've had him checked out by the vet who couldn't find any issues and suggested a go slow bowl, which he uses. He hunts for his kibble in the morning. His bowel movements are normal and nothing weird. Can anyone here recommend anything to either tone down the stench or to eliminate the foul green miasma that permeates our home? Charcoal tablets? Probiotics? A rubber stopper? :D
  17. Damn I was gonna ask about the 'Blues' or 'Silvers'. I hear you have to pay top dollar but I'll wait for my colour.
  18. There was a Russian Black in puppy class. What an awesome dog. Huge and gentle but his owner said that he was stubborn.
  19. French Bulldog. I've loved them forever but should have bought one 20 years ago before they were $3500.
  20. My kelpie was bitten on the cheek. Within a day it turned into a nasty abscess. It burst and I cleaned it every 2 hours with hydrogen peroxide and a Cotton bud.. Took about 3 weeks to heal.
  21. I wanted a labrador boy, preferably not yellow as I'm a lousy housekeeper and I have dark carpets. :D I indicated a preference for a Choc boy. I made it very clear however that I valued temperament and health over looks. I wanted a chilled out dog with good hip and elbow scores and screened negative for labrador issues EIC etc). I lurked here for a year, learning. I got offered a girl but got a bad vibe from the breeder. I kept ini contact with my 4 top breeders - all of whom didn't have litters on the ground but who's willingness to 'interrogate' me indicated that they took great care and pride in their dogs, and gave me a good feeling that they'd be available if I ran into issues. I WANTED a breeder to take the time to ask me about my lifestyle, my health, my home and details about how I live. I WANTED them to find me a dog that would suit my needs and who I coukd handle. While I did express a colour preference, I also stressed over and over again that I would take any pup who could live in our family. I got lucky - though some might say I dudnt, since instead of a cute chubby lard ball of squishiness, I got a 6 month old pup who'd clearly lived most of his time outside. But temperament? Oh my gosh, he's perfect. He's a little cow-hocked and is learning inside manners but if if if been rigid - Ernie wouldn't be mine. The breeder did a fantastic job of matching him to us, and getting to know me and knowing how much I valued temperament over a cute little fur ball. She knew I was happy to take an older dog if it ticked the personality boxes. We emailed back and forth for six months. I keot get apprised of every thing in my life that could affect her pup's welfare (cancer, divorce). I'm glad she took the time to give a crap. Her pup will never be rehomed due to behavioural issues or because he isn't pretty enough or because he's a naughty boy sometimes. I've says it before - patience. Sure, ask the breeder all the questions you want, but if you want a particular pup - you need to be prepared to answer questions about yourself. Or you can buy a pup off Gumtree. Your choice.
  22. ^this sounds like a plan. So eventually he will learn that behaving like a nutcase around visitors means he's back in the crate.
