Thanks guys. She is doing well, I might try to mix up her exercise a bit. She doesn't particularly like swimming, unlike my other dog, which is a pity as we have a pool. Lol, Zug Zug, those pleading brown eyes are tough to ignore but we are staying strong

Thanks Sandra, was told that I should be able to see her ribs, didn't think this was correct for a SBT. The weight really fell off quite quickly around her waist, I'm sure the weight loss will regulate itself (just like in people!) True, she did put weight on by stealth and by my not regulating what she ate properly and it did take a while to go on.

I am trying to lose weight on my spayed female SBT. It has been about a month since I have been a bitch (according to her) and put her on Royal Canin Weight Control and a couple of times a week she gets a roo bone instead of her kibble. No snacks and when we do training it comes out of her kibble ration. She also goes for an offlead run four times a week for about half an hour. Her waist is shrinking rapidly but she is still quite fatty around her rib cage and her chest, I can't easily feel her ribs through her skin. I know with myself when I lose weight, it seems to come off from my bust downwards. Do dogs lose weight in certain areas first? And how realistic should I be about how quickly should she lose weight? She was 25kg, she is down to about 23kg at the moment. I am not trying to focus on the weight number though, just how she looks. Should I be able to see her ribs showing through?

What a great photo Wish I lived in Sydney so I could get a Ruthless Photo. You can just read Jackson's face, it is killing him to sit there with that cake in front of him!!
-
Can you leave him inside? Maybe shut doors so he only has access to certain parts of the house?

How is throwing glass into someone's back yard not illegal??!! Not sure why I have been taking my rubbish to the tip all these years, should just throw it into the neighbours yard

I have used both on sore paws and mine have always smelt their paws after application but never licked. Obviously smelt too clean  Both were applied on the paws after being told by the vet to, so I presume that the vet would have told me not to let them lick it if it was a problem.

I would use Betadine or some Ilium Neocort if you have some.

Lovely photo of Bridie in this link (not sure that Bridie is a Bullmastiff though  ) http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/pet-dog-gets-her-man-20130411-2hmo0.html

So the laws are only stating the minimum? Breeders can go above the minimum standards required?

I must be one hardened bitch then. A dog peacefully put to sleep doesn't really rate a mention when you consider the cruelty and suffering that occurs in this world.

Plenty of examples of how religion and rational thinking don't correlate. Could this happen in Australia? Do the Guide Dog Associations have contracts with the people who get the dogs?

Our family has had to deal with two deaths recently, both family members had dogs/cats. Unfortunately most people don't want other peoples dogs/cats and with council regulations, pack dynamics etc it is a hard ask for relatives to look after them. Once they are surrendered, the relatives no longer have any say in what happens to them. After these experiences I also have requested that my animals be pts if I (and my husband) die before them. And if I knew I was going to die, I would be taking them to the vet myself. Obviously this situation is a lot different to my situation as I don't have a trained guide dog but I can relate to the fear of worrying about what was going to happen to them after I die. I would prefer to know that my dogs were at peace than sitting in a concrete cell, scared silly or stuck with someone that doesn't treat them correctly. BTW, not all guide dog owners are particularly nice to their dogs.

Is she licking her paws? Maybe have a look in the paw itself, to see if there is any redness, sometimes a dog can get an allergic reaction to plants, lawn etc and their paws can get itchy. Dogs do sweat through their paws but if it hasn't been hot, you wouldn't think that it is sweat.

Responsible cat owners will go and get their cats registered, microchipped and desexed if they haven't already done so, the rest won't do jack and no one will do anything about it....

Our Jack Russell x lived until he was 17 on supermarket brands and table scraps. Perfect set of teeth, never had any dental work done in his life. In the end his heart gave way. I currently feed VAN with roo meat and RMB. But would have no problems feeding dry if my circumstances changed. Sometimes I think we can over think things.

Thanks VAN! I will check out Petbarn.

What a lovely story. Only one complaint, no photos!

Yes I just did a search and it is, I'm just not sure your location as WA is a big place but there are a few stocklists: http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=102&Itemid=59 Hi, Whipitgood, which City Farmers did you find it at? I'm heading down to Perth next weekend and would love to pick some up.
-
Am I missing something? I can't seem to find where they were raided, it looks to me like a journalist visited the property and wrote a story?

I just haven't been able to find the rolls as yet? I rang around some of the stockists listed on the site and they don't stock the roll as yet but that was a couple of months ago. I'm about to go back to Perth in a couple of weeks time so I might try again.

I don't think that the VAN rolls are available in WA as yet.

Not sure if that means dogs were kept in 44 gallon drums on this property or what? If so I would not exactly call this "good care"... When we were on a farm, when I was growing up, 44's were cut and used as kennels for most of the dogs except for the house dog. Not sure if that was what was meant? The interesting thing about the Herald Sun link is that Oscar's Law is now legislation, since January 2012? Is this only Victoria?
