I also try to avoid the up and down motion, although sometimes the motion just goes that way but I pull it back into the side to side. Once the game gets going I rarely need to 'tug' back, she does it all. I do worry about her neck though, it looks like she pulls a lot from the neck, if that makes sense? At times she almost goes into a sit. I think I need an even longer tug for the stafford though, my back alignment is out according to my chiropractor! Should have got a taller dog!

That's good advice, Tassie I have only had one nip, where she let go of the tug and panicked and jumped to grap the tug and got my finger as well Game over, it hurt too much! I have since got some longer and softer tugs. I was using a rope toy which isn't really appropriate.

Thanks Staranais and Max#1, they are great ideas. I'll start on trying the 'finish' with a belly rub and cuddle, any excuse Then I might start working some obedience into the game. By just finishing the game and walking away I always felt that it ended on a negative, like I was stopping because they had done something wrong.

I have read a few articles on tugging and my dogs love it. My issue is with how to end the game? The dog is revved up, how do you redirect that energy without having to go for a walk as I currently do now?

Same principle I would have thought. Most kids grow out of trampolines pretty quick. But if you have no other choice you will have to approach them in a calm manner and explain what is happening and hope for the best.

We had some little ones move in next door earlier this year. They scream!!!! Really loudly too, can't understand how the parents can stand to hear it. Anyway, this of course set the dogs off. Thankfully we were home on holidays and the dogs have learnt to ignore the kids. They have a trampoline as well and it was near the fence but they moved it, don't know why. Maybe your dogs will become accustomed to the noise after a while? You could have sympathetic neighbours or you could be opening yourself up to a whole lot of nastiness. It has only been one day, give it time.

Rare Or Disqualifed Colours In Breeds.
korbin13 replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow, how cute!! Although all puppies are cute! My favourite is still the black/brindle though. Never really liked the blue colour in Staffords, too insipid for my liking and now knowing that there is possible health issue, no thanks. One of my loves of the Stafford is that they are so healthy. -
Rare Or Disqualifed Colours In Breeds.

Liver and blue wouldn't see the light of day here. From what I've seen of those colours, aside from the risks of health problems which are increased because of dilute gene alopecia, no matter what lines they are from, they generally are not of decent quality and I personally wouldn't want my prefix associated with them. Fawn and black/tan....well......a lot would depend upon quality. Fawn I'm less keen on, so would probably be desexed and placed. Black/tan....as long as you know where it is coming from in the pedigree, really there isn't a lot to fear. To be honest, I think black/tan appears more often than many breeders let on. I haven't seen any black/tan staffy, do you have a photo? The only ones I have seen is the black/brindle but saying that I'm not a breeder or have anything to do with the breed other than being a fan! -

Get her some toffee almonds or some Charlesworth nuts. They are one of the things that I miss from SA the most, haven't been able to find them here in WA, had my Mum bring some over along with a Balfours pastie! Yum -
Care Packages For Our Troops Puppies
korbin13 replied to mackenzie11's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think that this is a great idea I think I'll do one for dog and handler, and one for a soldier. Not that I don't trust you mackenzie11 but do you have the link? I would like to send it onto some other people I know and might also send it around work and someone is bound to ask. Thanks -
I've had a staffy and a staffy cross both desexed who were able to live together with no worries (only when they were pups and over food) but the staffy cross was about double the size of the staffy. There was some growling occasionally but the other would respect the growl and keep their distance. Maybe size makes a difference?

Dogs Interpreting Visual Representations
korbin13 replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have the real estate signs here with the agents rather large photos on them. I have one who can't get past them quick enough!! The other will give a woof and then move on. They both love people, the photos obviously just aren't in proportion enough for them! -
My mixed breed does this! First time she did I was doing some gardening and a cockroach ran out and I chopped in half with the shovel (reflex action, it's me or them!!) she then gagged. Funnily enough so did my son Second time I noticed her playing with one out in the yard and she sniffed it and then gagged?? My staffordshire has no issues with them though. Strange behaviour

It's quite scary to think of the power that our Councils have -
Love it!! By the way, a lot off topic, your user name reminds me of my teenage years. Uncanny Xmen FTW!!

Hi all, not sure where to put this one but I was after a bit of advice. I live regional WA and was looking to bring my dogs down to Perth for a week or two and require kennels. I was looking at All Breeds Pet Retreat in Kenwick as I would love them to do some training to help relieve boredom while they are there. Anyone had any good/not so good reports?
