Not sure how these things work but if the report is correct and the dog had a wound, underfed and in a cage where it couldn't stand up, wouldn't that be enough reason for the RSPCA to take the dog? Or at least make an order to get vet care, show evidence that adequate food is being provided?

Little Disheartned With New Vet

Too cute! -
Is it just me or does the article read as if suddenly people will start dumping unwanted litters/animals because of the laws? They weren't doing this beforehand? I believe that if you morally think that it is ok to dump an animal, you will do it regardless. How costly is it to put a microchip in anyway? I can't remember.

Oh, they are good aren't they? Really show the dogs off.

Little Disheartned With New Vet

I ignore vets when it comes to what I feed my dogs. I had one go all horrified when I said I feed raw bones and begin to lecture me about bowel obstructions. And not in a nice way, like I was an idiot. She was fresh out of uni. Took 30 minutes for her to give a vaccination because she was lecturing me for so long! Unfortunately as we live in a small town there aren't too many options for vets but needless to say I give her a wide berth! If he was starving he would eat the dry food. -
A Couple Of Fatties. Need Suggestions!
korbin13 replied to pebbles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have the same problem here with one of my dogs. I have recently gone onto Vets All Natural Weight loss. I alternate between that a and a raw meaty bone. It is working, slowly. We haven't been able to walk as much recently due to the weather (I am a sook) but have substituted a walk for a swim. Once it gets a bit cooler, the walks get a lot longer. I really think that it is a case of less food, more exercise. But my focus has been on making that 'less food', very nutritional due to the fact that she is getting less of it, if that makes sense! And as cazxxz said talk to members of the family, I was shocked to realise how much the others in our household feed her! And being teenage boys (and all their friends) they were feeding her maccas, chips, BBQ, icecream etc. -
What beautiful photos. The photographer has really captured the 'emotions' of the dogs.

This statement from the article suggests to me that the people involved aren't of the best character. Supply and demand, I suppose.

British Bulldog - Flea Allergy Dermatitis
korbin13 replied to Carlo11's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pearl seems to know that she has hit the jackpot. I have never really had much to do with Bulldogs, they are quite rare in our area. But this thread has made me research them a bit and they are just gorgeous! -

Pretty sure the police will refer you to the ranger if there were no people were hurt. I also don't think that it is mandatory in WA for doctors to report dog bites (it wasn't when I was doing a paper for uni but that was almost ten years ago). Report it to the local ranger but not sure what they will do if they don't know who the person is. Maybe go back to the IGA, they may know who he is? I hate it when people refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. I would be mortified if my dog did that. Mind you I don't leave my dogs unattended outside shops. Hope you and your dog recover. It would have been very scary. -
Mine seem to jump and then come running to me with tails wagging furiously as if THEY are sorry for getting in the way. I always say sorry but then I have been known to apologise to clothes racks in shops for bumping into them! I think that it is an automatic reaction for me, a bit like saying thank you, which I also say to the dogs

I am sorry I don't know what to do but is there another vet you can call? I would be worried too and would want the vet to look at them rather than give phone advice, location dependant I suppose. Hope she feels better soon.

Are You Not Allowed To Dislike Certains Dogs Around Here?
korbin13 replied to HugUrPup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I couldn't dislike a whole breed. There are individual dogs that I'm not that fond of though, usually because of their owners haven't done the right thing by the dog. -
What about the 'Wonderstep? http://www.danozdirect.com.au/wp/wonder-step/ Might be a bit 'shaggy'.

Can't help sorry, I am just glad they don't ship to Australia!! They have some nice things there, don't think my bank balance could cope.

Water Training On Lake Hume With Newfoundland Katy
korbin13 replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow, she is super impressive and must be so strong!! You can tell she loves doing it. Poor Mike, not sure if I would go swimming in Lake Hume  -
Friends had an incident a few years ago, people came in stole their wallets from the kitchen. Dogs sleep with them. The dogs did bark during the night but they told them to be quiet! I now get up when my dogs bark. But they would only bark, I am pretty sure neither of them would 'protect' me. Really not sure what I or the dogs would do if someone entered the house and threatened me, hope I never find out. I have security doors on my front and back doors so that I can have the cool air come in during summer which is what I presume you were wanting. It might pay to look into installing some of those, especially if you have dodgy neighbours.

Vets All Natural - Perfect Puppy Nutrition
korbin13 replied to Dr Bruce Syme's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have just ordered the VAN weightloss for my SBT who seems to put weight on very easily. I have been feeding mainly raw but am concerned with the amount that I am feeding her. I have cut down on the amounts so much I worry about the nutrition that she is getting. She only has to walk past the fridge and she puts weight on!! I am going to try human grade roo, hopefully it doesn't smell as much. Our pet meat store here doesn't appear to be that hygienic. Really looking forward to giving it a go. Am enjoying reading this thread, sad though that some feel the need to derail it. I am sure that constructive criticism is welcome but no need for just plain nastiness. Edit: As for the price, I am going to alternate between a raw meaty bone and VAN. We don't have it local as we are in country WA so I have to order it online. I have only ordered 1kg to see how she goes but then will buy in bulk if it goes alright. -
I will have this dilemma soon. We want to go overseas for about 10 days in June. I have decided that I am going to book my two in for a few overnight stays while I am here to get them used to it. If there are any issues I will be a phone call away. Really, my human children were easier than this!!

My ones on a rope float. http://www.planetdog.com/category.aspx?categoryID=30 But I don't know if they ship to Australia.
-
My dogs love their orbee ball on a rope! They have had them for two years and the 'land' has only just started to come off, which is pretty good for a SBT and a mastiff x. I can't remember where I bought mine or for how much but I find that it pays to shop around online, postage can be a killer.

Just raw. Never thought of searing it....maybe I will give it a go. Must admit it does stink

Lol, I always thought it meant Bones And Raw Food. Just making stuff up as I go along
