  1. Probably not the 'right' way but I taught it by picking up a paw, shaking and treating. They then anticipate when you put your hand out and automatically lift their paw to shake. I don't use a word to cue the shake, I just put my hand out. And then from there it is quite easy to teach a high five and wave as Misteri said.
  2. Considering the OP made one post and then never came back and clarified, it was always going to degenerate into baseless speculation That is the way of the internets!
  3. The bolded part has me worried, if you have a dog that 'occassionally' takes on an aggressive pose towards other dogs, why would you have it off leash? If I had a dog like that I would feel it is my responsibility to protect it considering that it doesn't know how to act around other dogs. I suppose the best bet is to speak to the council and see what they say but from now on I would be inclined to keep your dog on a leash. Anyway, I hope that your dog is ok and gets well soon.
  4. http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/television/peter-harvey-injured-in-a-dog-fight/story-e6frfmyi-1226269200249#ixzz1mAuJfcpC Glad he is alright. I wonder if it was because the dogs were under the table, feeling confined so to speak?
  5. That's so lovely. Knew a lady who had a poodle that belonged to her friend who died of cancer quite young. She had that poodle for 10 years after her friend died. When the poodle passed away she was devastated, it was the last link to her friend.
  6. poor earthworm Poor massive fat 'greedy' earthworm! I wondered why it was holding on for so long???? Probably couldn't find its way out of the fur!
  7. I have used aloe vera on my dog before, he had a bee sting and it took the swelling down and stopped him from licking the sore. Good luck with it.
  8. The person who shot that dog is obviously not a professional but having said that, as dog meat is not used for any purpose it doesn't really matter how it is hung, the dogger here just throws them in the back of the ute. Station owners just want to see a body count.
  9. Wonder if we will get 'after' photos!
  10. Poor Georgie, RIP little guy. Poor owners That man obviously suffered some sort of mental problem. Wish there was more help for people like this in our community.
  11. So sad I have actually read where women have stayed in violent relationships as they are afraid for their pets safety.
  12. Lol, I think that this is why I love the JRT so much, they certainly have attitude
  13. Blue and named Juddy, um someone a Carlton supporter  By the way, he is just gorgeous, butter wouldn't melt!
  14. Oooh too cute. Hope that he finds a nice home. I am sure that someone would enjoy the challenge of training a deaf dog.
  15. My stafford plays with a friends JRT, the play style is so similar it did make me wonder at times if they were a bit more closer related. I used to say it was the terrier in them. Our old JRT cross had a great temperament, really good with kids and other dogs. But small animals didn't stand a chance I don't think that I would have ever taken the risk with him with a chi. He was great at catching mice like that video though.
  16. Last time I boarded my dog and cat was about two years ago. Guy came out and helped me with them, he carried the cat in. We left the cat in her travel cage in the office while we took Snowy out to his run. The whole time he chatted, he even gave me a run down on how Snowy would spend his day and who the dogs were next to him! We then did the same with the cat. When I went to pick them up, we did the same thing. Over the years I have boarded my animals several times at different kennels and have never had a problem, it has always been the same experience as above. I think that I would be a bit taken aback if I had the experience the OP did. I am sure they will be fine though.
  17. So why isn't a criminal conviction recorded. I know people who have done minor things and had convictions recorded. Hardly seems reasonable.
  18. Yes it is very common to kill wild dogs and cats. The government here in WA baits with 1080 and also employs professional dog shooters.
  19. Hoover looks like an aviator! Don't know if my dogs would leave them on.
  20. Thank you for posting that, so many stories from that night that we never hear of. Glad to hear Rigel made it ok, sounds like a honourable name for future newfies!
  21. I also get anxious when we go away but I look at it like I did when my children were younger. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and a more relaxed, happier me equals a happier them Having said the longer has been 10 days so not huge in the scheme of things and my now adult children looked after them at my home with strict instruction (written)
  22. I was told years ago, the reason why dogs don't get sick from rotten food was because they have a very short digestive system, in and out within about 8 hours depending on their overall diet. Humans on the other hand take about 48-72 hours which is why salmonella is such a risk, it has time to 'breed'. I have no idea if that is true but sounds plausible! Anyway good luck over the next few hours, sounds like it is time for Archie to catch some fresh air
  23. I have the Ruff wear portage float coat. It's cheaper than the big eddy, I guess it depends on what you want it to do, we use it as a confidence booster. http://www.ruffwear.com/Portage-Float-Coat?sc=2&category=694 It's great and she won't get in the pool without it.
  24. and the drooooool I'm glad they didn't put music to it. Did anyone else think their panting sounded pretty cool? It was almost like music, the panting was almost rhythmical!
