  1. I use Birdwood Vet Clinic. Been using them for past 13 years and no complaints. Prices are quite reasonable. Friendly staff and vets. EXplain everything in plain language. None of these fancy words that are designed to confuse you.Another big plus, they have a genuine 24 hour emergency service. For example, rang them at 11 pm on a Saturday night and Andrew (he's the boss) was at my house by midnight. Can't beat that for service (I liveabout 45 km from Birdwood). 5 star rating from me and I'm fussy about who looks after my dogs. Gotta change my siggy, Dodger passed away 3 weeks ago at the age of 13.
  2. Mack, I didn't think for one minute you were complaining. The bit I've highlighted in blue is what threw me. It says new po numbers. I should have checked your first post before posting that media release. dodger39
  3. Didn't check your first post on this subject. Sorry if I've doubled up. I get defence media releases daily and thought that the addresses were new one's they'd added, so I put it here. Talking from experience, I know the diggers always appreciate stuff sent to them, whether it be Christmas or any other time.
  4. This is the latest media release about care packages. ( hot off the press 10 minutes ago). These addresses are in addition to the one's you already know about Care Packages For The Troops This Christmas Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowdon said Defence has established dedicated postal addresses to enable Australians to send gifts to our personnel overseas for the Christmas period. While the existing Australian Defence Force (ADF) postal service is set up for families of deployed personnel, Defence welcomes expressions of public support for ADF personnel deployed on overseas operations in the lead up to Christmas Mr Snowdon said the celebration of Christmas is an important time for the Australian community but especially so for those ADF, Australian Federal Police and other Australian Government agency personnel and families that are separated during Christmas by overseas operational deployments. “To accommodate parcels and gifts from the Australian public, new Australian Forces Post Office numbers have been established. [see bottom of the release]. “These addresses will be functional until 15 December allowing Australia Post and Defence enough time to get the packages to deployed personnel – some of whom are serving in very remote locations overseas. “Members of the public will be able to access all the information they need with regards to sending their packages, on the Defence website - http://www.defence.gov.au/ Mr Snowdon said. Alternatively, donations can also be made to the RSL Australian Forces Overseas Fund, which has been sending pre-prepared care packages overseas to Australians on operations for many years. Links to this Fund, including instructions on how to donate, will be available on the ‘Support the Troops’ link on the Defence website. For members of the public who wish to express their support through text, they can email their messages to [email protected] Media contacts: Defence Media Liaison 02 6127 1999 or 0408 498 664 Addresses to send care packages to deployed personnel PLEASE NOTE: Packages will not be accepted after 15 December, as they won’t be able to be shipped in time for Christmas. 7. Dunno, but holding the next DOL BBQ at Budd's place surrounded by all the wineries sounds great ;) Sounds like a good idea
  8. Wrong side of town for me Budd, I'm down Mannum way.
  9. I would advise the owners of the dog control policy in the ACT. Dog exercise areas and Dogs prohibited areas Where can I exercise my dog? •In general, in public, dogs must always be walked on-lead; •Dogs may only be exercised of-leash, under the control of a competent person, in designated dog exercise areas; •Dogs must always be walked on-lead on cycle paths even if the cycle path is in a dog exercise area; •Maps that show the location of dog exercise areas are available from Canberra Connect Shopfronts, ACT Libraries and Domestic Animal Services; •Dogs must not be taken into dogs prohibited areas, however, dogs may be walked on lead, on cycle paths, through dogs prohibited areas. http://www.tams.act.gov.au/live/pets/Dog_Policy Although I doubt that would acheive anything as even after speaking to the lady, the very next day the dogs running loose again. My personal opinion is that you should now report it to the local council. You've tried to do the right thing by talking to the lady first. If there is a language barrier, I'm sure council would be able to get the services of an interpreter. It's no good wating until some one gets bitten.
  10. Great photo's. What a mixture of breeds. So disappointed I couldn't be there. I only have one complaint re photo's. No Sammi's
  11. My apologies. I must have missed it. I think a trip to specsavers might be in order. I'll also have to get my one finger typing to go a bit quicker, I must have been doing my post while you were doing yours. But I was too slow.
  12. Looking for a pup ? Beware this scam operating in South Australia Online scam swindles dog lovers . ONLINE scammers have swindled thousands of dollars out of dog lovers by selling puppies that never arrive. Vicitms of the scam paid between $1440 and $2725 to "Newfview Kennels" which claims to have a kennel in South Australia but is not a registered business. Minister for Consumer Affairs Gail Gago said the website claims to have Newfoundland, Chesapeake and Leonberger puppies for sale and provides a mobile number to call to place an order. "All transactions are made via telephone and money is paid directly into a bank account belonging to Andrew Pike of Newfview Kennels," Ms Gago said. 13. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it today. Ladybug took a turn for the worse yesterday afternoon after I took her and Dodger for a walk. Poor old girl was really struggling to walk. The vet came out home last night and gave her another injection and advised me to give her complete rest for two or three days. No walks, just complete and utter rest and to stay indoors ( she's normally indoors anyway) and keep her warm. Hopefuuly things will be ok for the next meet. It's so disappointing after the way she was clowning around earlier in the week after her last injection. I would have loved to meet up with you all, but Ladybugs welfare comes first, so it's stay at home for a few days.
  14. Dodger is that for this Sunday or next Sunday? The meet is on 6th June That's for Sunday 6 June. Three different weather forecasters have it in the range of14c to 15c high and the low between 8c and 11c. All say a possibility of rain. The highest probability being 60%. Don't know whether I'll be coming, it still depends on how Ladybug is. There are promising signs but if she's still not going to good, I won't take the chance of travelling to Adelaide and possibly creating too much stress for her.
  15. Round about 14c high 11c low and 60% chance of rain. Going to be a miserable day weather wise but don't let that put you off.
  16. Jaana and I will be there Ack! I don't do RSPCA stuff (and I have a family crap thing on), but I so want to meet your lappie!!! Hello everyone. New to DOL and Cassie kindly pointed me in this direction. I will try to make it to your next meet. I rarely go to Adelaide (hate all the hustle and bustle) but seeing as it's on a Sunday I'll try. It will depend on a couple of things.Firstly, how Ladybug is progressing with her treatment (at the moment she is having injections and Previcox for spinal problems)and secondly how I am faring.(old age problems) I'd love to introduce Ladybug (11 y.o. Sammi) and Dodger (10 y.o. Kelpie). This is them , photo taken about 4 years ago.

    Samoyed

Hi all, I'm a newbie to DOL and at the moment working my way through the different forums/topics. Wolfsong, thanks for your comment on my intro post. Have a Sammi which I got from the pound when she was about a year old (she's now about eleven). No idea as to her parentage. Obviously she's not a show dog, in fact never been into showing, obediance trials was my thing when I was a bit younger. Also have a crazy Kelpie who's 10 years old. Found this site while looking for info on some medication the vet has put Ladybug (the Sammi) on. Must say there's heaps of info here that I could have benefitted from when I first got Ladybug. As far as grooming goes, she always get's her baths done at the grooming salon. Brushing and combing I do myself, initially it was all trial and error but after a whike when I had the right brushes etc it was a breeze. OK, that's enough waffling from me for now. Certainly nice to know the informations around to help people out.
