Thanks everyone for your advice and replies, I appreciate it Certainly gives me some food for thought and some more information to proceed with. I have to say that I don't believe that the breeder is 'dodgy' at all, the breeder 'ticks all the boxes' so to speak and is lovely and I believe ethical and committed to the breed. I apologise for any confusion in mentioning Amstaffs :D the puppy I am interested in isn't an Amstaff, I just mentioned it because I had this same discussion with my Hubby that Greytmate mentioned, after we saw the Amstaff puppies in the pet store, that you would need the Limited Register papers for that breed.

Tassie, thanks ;)

SparkyTansy - Thanks. I am interested in pursuing some dog sports in the future so I think it would be important for that. molasseslass - Yes, I must admit I am reluctant to pay several thousand dollars for a pup and not recieve any sort of official documentation. However I do like this breeder and the dogs very much, so it's hard to know what to do. Greytmate - I saw some Amstaff puppies for sale in a pet shop yesterday and wondered about that. I presume that they would have had no papers. Have to say not a pet shop we normally frequent but we were in need of some emergency fish supplies and our regular store was out. What does it cost to get the papers? Perhaps if I offered to pay for them?

Hi everyone ;) I'm new to the concept of Limited Register. I am currently making enquiries to breeders for a puppy, and I have a question. If I purchase a puppy on Limited Register, should I receive papers from the breeder? I'm not sure if this is standard practice or not. One breeder will supply papers only with a puppy bought on Main Register, and copies of the pedigrees of the parents if the puppy is on Limited Register (as most seem to be) What would be the advantage of actually having the Limited Register papers? If you're not planning to show or breed is it important? Thanks!

The Mini Schnauzer, Asja, my family had when I was young chewed all the noses off my soft toys lol. And she would always try to steal a particular large teddy bear of mine, one day we came home and found the bear wedged half in and half out of the dog door! She never destroyed her own toys though!

I don't know what to think lol. I'm sure it takes a great deal of time and effort.... but... oh dear lol

Interesting! Is this a common thing? The aggression after desexing? I've never heard of it before. Does it happen to desexed males also?

My Maltese Is Getting De-sexed Tomorrow :(

I think it's natural to worry when one of our beloved pets is having surgery of any kind! He will be fine and will bounce back before you know it -
Agree with posting pics anyway, they may not know about certain breeds! I had a look and noticed all the 'oodles' too

Is it the same program in different states?

What Can You Expect To Pay For A Saint Bernard
ravenau1 replied to frenchiegirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't know about Saint Bernards in particular, but in our research on dogs it would seem that budgeting for around $2,000 for a purebreed doggie from a good breeder would be safe. If it's less than that, then more to spend on toys -
Poor dog I guess some really never have a chance to be good canine citizens! I amazes me that people just expect a puppy to automatically grow up into a wonderfully well behaved dog with no help from the owner, just like magic!

The biohazard one is kind of funny though!

I thought it was great, easy to follow And Riddick is so cute it's ridiculous!

Thanks GayleK, will definitely look into that! We have a school fairly close by

Thanks for the feedback everyone and some funny stories ;) greytmate and juice, thanks for the info! I'll definitely will have to work something out for that. We do have a small grassed area enclosed, plus two doors down on the other side of the street is a park and large oval. Unfortunately I don't have anyone with a bigger yard within walking distance (I don't drive), we will have to have a think on this and come up with some sort of solution as we certainly don't want to impede the development of a puppy at all. I am open the the idea of an adult dog, but unfortunately my Husband is resistant. Ideally we would like a bigger property for the dog, but, we are currently sitting quite well Bank and Landlord free. We could 'upgrade', so to speak, but then I guess I would have to work full time for us to afford a mortgage on a bigger place which would rule out me getting a dog and kind of defeat the purpose of moving lol. Not that I have a problem with people working full time with a dog, just one of the reasons we are after one is that I have a fair bit of time on my hands :D Thanks again everyone!

If you hold a pug upside down their eyes will pop out. wow I really should stop picking Bert up by his hind legs then! :D ;) They way I heard it their eyes just fall out - ALL the time apparently... Because they're soooo inbred and they're bred with such bulging eyes... But you can just rinse them off and pop them back in! ;) So funny!

Hope that Lincoln has a speedy recovery!

Thanks for your replies everyone :D The dog will be getting plenty of exercise, the plan (eventually) is for two 1 hour walks per day, plus extra time in the park - how much extra park time will depend on the dog, and the conditions of the day, I expect. One of the initial reasons for looking for a dog was for a walking and exercise companion as well as company/added security while I am home alone. The walks will be rain, hail or shine even in summer with my Husbands shifts we can walk in the coolest parts of the day/night, And winter is good because you can walk pretty much any time. I live in Perth so we don't have to worry about rain very much Ideally it would be great to leave the dog inside while we were out, but my Husband isn't keen on this, even the cats go into their 'room' (spare bedroom with a cat door in window to outside enclosure) when we leave the house We are looking at a Bull Terrier, breed wise, but am curious about other dogs in this situation too, say, for instance, a Dobermann.

That it's cruel to keep Malamutes in Australia, because it's nothing like Alaska! And that Bull Terriers will kill your whole family! Heard this one recently Edit: adding another

Interested to get others takes on this. Our dog (when we get one!) will spend most of it's time inside, and will get 2 long walks per day plus 'play time' at the park. We will also be doing obedience training etc. I work part time and my Husband works shifts, we are rarely at work at the same time so pretty much the only time the dog would be in the yard is if we go out together, so perhaps a total of five hours in a week. It will no doubt end up being less than that as we will incorporate the dog into most of our activities that we do together on our weekend day together. We plan to have plenty of things to keep the dog occupied while we are gone. We have very small yard, though we have brick fencing and colourbond fencing and it is very secure. However, the size of our yard seems to be a hurdle for us. Am I right in thinking that a dog only needs a large yard if it isn't being regularly walked? Our dog would be spending the same amount of time outside whether we had a small yard or a big yard.

What Would You Do If Your Dog Was Sick
ravenau1 replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have a fairly decent 'emergency fund' set aside for things like unexpected vet bills (we don't have a dog at the moment but we have cats). If it went over what we have set aside then we could borrow money from family, or sell something. Have to say that we would be hard pressed to put together $30,000 dollars for a vet bill though! -
Well, no wonder our Mini Schnauzer always looked confused!
