  1. I've been ferreting years ago with my best friend and her Dad, it was really interesting! His ferret was amazing and it was a good way for them to control the rabbit population on their property, and the dogs used to love fresh bunny :p They would occasionally have to dig Mr Ferret out though
  2. Thanks so much ozjen! I found a couple of books on the topic that look interesting so might get some reading in before the puppy gets here.
  3. Hi Ozjen Hopefully we will see you there! I am really keen to give this a go as it sounds really interesting. Where do you get the equipment and such from? I think some people use a flyball harness? I could be wrong though lol She is just beautiful emery! I have an irresponsible neighbour 1 door down and he has a Rotti pup about the same size/age as yours. The poor dog doesn't get walked and my next door neighbours have taken to walking the dog (obviously not used to a lead and has had no discipline) but he is a very funny boy, he puts his paws over the fence, right up to his elbows and just stands there checking everything out. It does look sweet but I dread to think what will become of this puppy. thankyou oh no poor rotti pup bet he pulls like a train. kealri will pull but not hard as i want her to enjoy the lead and to run with me for shows but trianing is a must. both mine will hang over the fence to check things out they love it especially wehn the neighbours cuddle them lol. rottis are very fast learners and normally very food motivated. i hope they learn to take notice of their family member as rotti's are very much family dogs i see him ending up in the pound though plz keep me updated if that looks like happening and i will see what i can do Yes, I will let you know if the dog's outlook becomes bleak(er). It's an Indian or Sri Lankan guy that owns this dog, and it's shelter is an old car in the carport. One of the back doors is tied open to one of the carport poles. I'm assuming he has the dog for 'security' purposes On a brighter note, I only have 3 days to go before I pick up my little bundle of mischief. :D How exciting! :D
  4. Thanks, amypie Website is great! Looks like so much fun! I am getting a Dobermann I am getting a little frustrated though, seems like just about everything is on a weeknight! And like I said before I can only go places at night every second week on weekdays. I am looking for a good place to do obedience and can only find one place that seems to do weekends, but it's over an hour from here. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I am in the southern suburbs. Someone told me that they thought there was a place in Gosnells that had classes on Sundays but I can't seem to find anything. emery, congrats Was there decent security at the Royal Show for dogs this year? Just curious after what happened to the poor lil Chi. I'm pretty sure Gosnells is at Lumen Christi on Sundays lol I went to school there for a year Thanks!!

  6. Hi WA people I am wondering if anyone does Tracking? It looks interesting and I am looking at activities to eventually do with our dog (she will be born in 4 weeks lol). I am also really interested in Agility, but that seems to be offered on weeknights which poses a problem for me. I don't drive and my OH works shiftwork so I'd only be able to attend every second week, not sure how much of a problem that would be.
  7. That's really what baffles me about 'oodle' dogs. I know someone with an 'oodle', they said they wanted it because of the coat, the coat like a poodle. I asked them why not just get a poodle? It was honestly like the thought had never occurred to them! What's wrong with poodles? Poodles are perfectly nice dogs ;)
  8. Fascinating thread! Thanks for the pics, Poodlefan. I also prefer the look of the working line dogs.
  9. Love those pics! Especially the second one He's such a cutie!
  10. Thanks so much!! I am off to buy some right now!
  11. Sorry to hijack the thread But SpotTheDog where do you get the spray on Feliway? I used to use it (it's fantastic) but I haven't been able to source any for a couple of years now, just the diffuser which doesn't seem to have the same effect on my cats. I really miss it!
  12. Cute . I love her fur, looks like she is covered in velvet
  13. I take a fair few kitty paw pics
  14. I can't believe I didn't see this thread before, I LOVE paws! Great shots!
  15. Me too! ;) Hahaha! I notice that one of the Dingoes names is 'Lindy'... No probs CrazyCrestie! . I actually got interested in Dingoes a few years ago as I discovered that my Father-In-Law is sort of obsessed with them, and he's never even seen one! He's in the US, so I send pics of cute Dingoes every now and again to tease lol. This photography place in Perth works with the Dingo Society and there are some great shots of Dingo pups in the 'Other' gallery http://www.houndstoothstudio.com.au/gallery/studio-other1/
  16. Hi CrazyCresties I believe that it's legal to have a Dingo as a pet in WA. Here's a website about it http://www.wadingo.com/dingos/pets.htm
  17. I have to say that I was badly bitten by a Golden Retriever. He was scared and very badly injured (he had been attacked by a pack of dogs) at the time and I was helping lift him into a car to rush him to the vet, he may have generally been a very gentle dog but he did a fair bit of damage to me and his teeth didn't feel particularly round at the time! It all was ok in the end though, he recovered well and we were good mates again.
  18. Arrrgghhh! I forgot about it and went out to dinner! Will have to track down the dvd
  19. When some random cross breed in a pet shop sells for around $800 I don't think up to a few thousand is unreasonable for a purebreed dog from a good breeder. When we were thinking about getting a dog, we did some research about prices and set up a 'puppy fund'. Put a bit away each pay until we had our 'ballpark' figure which would cover the cost of the dog and possibly have some left over (which was $2000). If it had been more it just would have taken us longer to get the money together. It certainly wasn't an impulse buy anyway, so it didn't really matter how long it took us to save up.
  20. Thank you When I was looking for a pup I first contacted breeders in WA, but none were not having litters for a while. Stanley came from VIC. This is the very reason why I started this thread and would like to know too. My council website (City of Cockburn) doesn't say much, but it complies with the Dog Act 1976. Rangers can do on-the-spot fines if your dog isn't registered. My Council is the same, and I've never had a dog that wasn't registered, but I wonder what exactly we get for the $$ per year. The only info I've found is that in some councils if the dog is in the pound you get 14 days to collect it if it's registered and 7 days if it's not. But there's no info if that's the case in my council.
  21. I'm in WA too and was curious, what exactly happens if your dog isn't registered with the council? What are the benefits of having a registered dog?
  22. Anyone know if there's any further news about this poor little guy? Been thinking about it
  23. Micha is just gorgeous! Happy Birthday!
  24. Love the name lol. Il Gato, The Cat (according to my dodgy Spanish)
