  1. I'm not sure the average puppy buyer would be able to interpret the answers to those questions, I know I wouldn't. I could be spun a load of BS and I wouldn't possibly know it.
  2. I've got a dog book with all the FCI recognised breeds. I like quite a few of the rarer European hunting dogs. I wish we had Picardy Spaniels here. Wow, what an amazing looking dog!
  3. Hugo is lovely! What a little character
  4. Hello everyone . Lately it seems like every time I've logged in to write something I've been distracted or something has come up! It's been a full on couple of days, broken air-conditioner, busted tooth and that's just the big stuff .Now to catch up a bit! betsy: I used to have a cat who could get into bins and open cupboard doors, we ended up having to put childproof locks on all the doors. Clever little bugger he was KTB: Thanks for the info about the crate, I think the puppy will be fine. My OH says that I am seriously underestimating the intelligence of the puppy if I think two crates will confuse it too much Matilda is lovely and I hope she finds a good owner. I think cattle dogs are awesome, but need dedicated owners. I've known a few with the wrong kind of owner and it's ended up pretty tragically every time. I think what you're doing with the rescue dogs is great. However, I have to say after reading the Rescue section of this website, and some of the things that go on, I am really relieved that OH talked me out of getting a rescue dog in the beginning. Some of the things I have read in there have been pretty scary. belgian.blue: Manning, that's not too far away! Do you take the doggies? We'll have to arrange something! As long as you don't mind terribly shy and somewhat socially awkward OH 'cause he's my chauffeur because I don't drive Love to see more pics of Badger and Ivy Max#1: On the two dog issue. I'd love two dogs (says she who doesn't even have one yet ) I think it's probably better than one, provided they get along. Unfortunately though we will have to stick to one, I think. We have such a teeny tiny yard I would worry about them not having enough space each when they are outside and fighting or something. Maybe one day if we ever get crazy enough to want a mortgage and decide to sell this and move to a bigger house. wuffles: Good luck for next week! Keeping her quiet will be a chore I think! Puppy is three weeks old today Only another 5 to go I thought it was going to go slowly, but it's flying by! Still so much to do here, want to finish painting/redecorating, and doing a few things to the yard before puppy arrives. Going away this weekend though, which isn't going to help get things done
  5. Interesting thread. What colours are there health problems associated with, then? I know about blue (actually being a dilute of black if I'm correct) and the association with white dogs and deafness. But I wasn't aware of any others. Would all the mismark or 'incorrectly' coloured dogs in this thread be prone to health issues? Is that perhaps where the breed standard originally came from? As in "These colours are the healthiest dogs". eta: deafness, not blindness... haven't had my morning coffee yet
  6. CC, OH comes from a cold place, nothern USA (almost canada lol) and he's used to blizzards and temps low enough to snap freeze you! This is his 5th summer here and he's definitely getting used to it. But the first one was pretty rough! My Grandfather came from North Yorkshire and he LOVED summer here, the hotter the better! If it was in the 40's he was in his element, we used to think he was crazy ;) Tiggy, Pea is gorgeous!
  7. wuffles: Love the water vid, Satch is really into it! And the fur you could make a whole other dog with that! Satch looks worn out in the background there, a it like Sampson losing his hair. Did you use a furminator type brush? We bought one a while ago for Silver and Tiger since they shed bucketloads and it sure made a difference. KTB: Hahaha! Funny you should say that about keeping all of them, out of the litter of 9 there is one puppy for sale, I did think about taking two Love the vids, I really like the obedience part, I think that's very good for potential adopters to see. And Lucy getting a towel off, hilarious! Interesting reading about Hoover running back to his crate, I guess they really do love them eventually. Do you leave that crate in the bedroom, or do you move it around during the day? We have a couple of crates, one for the bedroom and one for the living room but I think that may be too confusing, I don't know. During the day our dog won't have access to the bedroom because I don't like the cats in there unsupervised, but the dog will be sleeping in there at night. Not just as a puppy, but permanently. We are still having the dog on the bed/dog not on the bed debate belgian.blue: Ohh! I've read about cow's hooves but haven't been able to find them, can I ask what markets you went to? Sounds like they have some good doggie stuff there! Did you end up going to the show thing yesterday? And yeah, all her dogs are super shiny! The Breeder puts it down to the fact that on her property she has chickens and her dogs get fresh eggs fairly regularly. I guess Mum dog has passed some of that along. KumaAkita: Interesting what you say about the obedience training as I've been wondering about that a bit myself. Not about not doing it, but about different dogs suitability for the style of training they do. We don't know which puppy is ours yet, hoping to soon as now their personalities will be coming about a bit more lilli star: I think keeping them quiet after an op would definitely be the hardest part! Niques: They were 2 weeks old on Thursday We will be bringing her home right on 8 weeks, can't wait And James figuring out how to get out of the crate is so funny! I can just picture it... head popping up and lightbulb going off "Oh, I see! Why didn't I ever notice that before?"
  8. this is exactly what i thought, our troops are doing it so hard, and the things we take for granted each day they are missing out on, it is wonderful that so many people here are going to send something across, i have bought moist wipes, dental floss, anzac biscuits, lollies, lip balm, creamy rice & spoons, puzzles books, dog biscuits, tug toy, just to name some stuff, got enough for 3 boxes, loads of little snack stuff that does not weight much, this way they get heaps in the 2 kg weight limit, 1 EDD, 1 male and 1 female soldier thanks Ohh! What a good idea! I didn't think of anything like puzzle books and such.
  9. I want to cuddle both of them
  10. KumaAkita : lol, great shots. Kuma should be digging those holes, or perhaps you could borrow Hoover for an afternoon. Max#1: Love it, just the look of determination on that face lol KTB: Glad to know that Hoover's head will be ok. Another learning experience as I had never heard of demodex mites before! Niques: I think it's the drop eared thing? I've been warned about Dobes and ear infections too. Hope James is feeling better soon, must be painful poor lil guy Puppy scrum
  11. Hope it all works out for you, it's a great shot!
  12. He's going to be a solid boy! He always looks so earnest in photos I will pm you Good idea Max#1, I hadn't thought about op shops! Might hit some on the weekend. Thanks! Hope Ruby is enjoying the toys! And I'll be interested to know how the Provisor goes for you. What's woundguard? Good luck with Satch tonight! I bet he's not all that bad
  13. Could you perhaps talk to your neighbours and explain the situation to them? Perhaps they will make the written complaints then.
  14. ravenau .. you're getting a puppy? What breed? You're most welcome to come meet Badger and Ivy :D KTB I'm sorry to read that belgian.blue, We are getting a Dobermann puppy I haven't owned one before but I did have a lot to do with two that belonged to my Uncle and a close family friend when I was a kid. Digby and his beautiful soft ears are still one of my favourite childhood memories Our little girl will be coming home on December 9 or 10, depending on which day my OH can wrangle off work. Pic as of last week (will be getting some more tomorrow ) I'd love to meet Badger and Ivy  my first puppy play date! I hardly know anyone with dogs now and will need all the puppy visits I can manage :D
  15. Thanks everyone for the toy advice :D Betsy, seems like Ziggy is a morning person, er... dog! :D . Love the pics! Max#1, flyball looks like so much fun! The dogs seem really excited to be there belgian.blue, Hello! You’re from WA too! Yay! I LOVE your dogs, I had never heard of a Groenendael before I saw pics of Ivy, she's so beautiful :D I love Badger’s expressions, and his nose, he’s a great looking dog. ETA: So sorry to hear that, KTB. No matter how 'prepared' you think you are, it never really helps ~hugs n stuff~
  16. Plastic bottles! We can definitely do those lol. I bet no matter what toys I have the puppy will be like the cats, they have heaps of toys and all they will play with is one fish on a stick thing. They will play with wrappers, leaves, fluff, shoes, bits of stick, toilet rolls and once spent a whole weekend chasing a potato around the house
  17. Makes me think of Beastie Boys music videos! It's weird, but strangely watchable, especially the costumes and weird kung fu moves in the first of the 'sniffing' vids
  18. Yes she is an Aussie :D I thought so, thanks wuffles ;) I need some toy advice please, peoples! We now have all our 'essentials' for the dog and are starting to collect some toys. We have a few balls, a fluffy mallard that quacks when you squeeze it, a teddy bear and a braided rope thingy with a ball in the middle. We will get some 'consumables' for chewing (like some antler etc) but I am wondering what are your dogs favourite toys? What would you guys recommend? Thanks.
  19. Thanks lol. I thought it would be getting easier as we got closer, but it's getting harder! He keeps coming up with more names! Just this weekend we've had Astrid (He says he likes it because it was the name of a Valkyrie, I know it's because he watched How to Train Your Dragon again the other day ), Rumour (after a character from the Shannara books... a Moorcat, yes... CAT!), and Ayanami (after Rei Ayanami, from Neon Genesis Evangelion - the anime) added to the list. At this rate we will need 30 dogs! Great vid! loved seeing all the dogs! :D Hehehe! Love the bat ears! You could hire Hoover out to an excavation company! Wuffles, please excuse my ignorance but what kind of dog is Ava? Is she an Aussie Shepherd? RE the stolen puppies, that makes me feel sick in the stomach ;), those poor, poor babies! I hope they find them or they are returned.
  20. Gorgeous shot! Really great. Such a beautiful part of the world, we were up at Exmouth and Coral Bay in June this year, can't wait to go back :D
  21. Who can pick which one is Shimi The Whippets look like they're thinking "oh sh*t, a WAVE of Staffords, we're gonna get drowned in puppy slobber!" Such a great shot! Shimi... is on the far left? Correct Yay lol, how odd! I just picked the one that looked most 'girly' to me
  22. If I ever got hair dye staining my skin etc I would scrub it with an anti-dandruff shampoo, a strong one like selsun and it would come off. Perhaps worth a shot
