  1. You mean there are people who turn their computers off? I like the idea of the motion sensitive recording, will have to use that when our pup goes outside!
  2. It's apparently quite a big thing, not just rabbits, anything small and furry really. I came across a series of photos on an animal welfare site (of all places) and it took me a while to figure out what was going on! Pretty girl, silver stiletto shoes and a tiny kitten. Skewered the kitten with the heel, then crushed it, I still can't get it out of my mind and it was only still shots. I think I read that they were recently banned in the US, which surprised me as I thought it would have been an animal cruelty issue and therefore already illegal
  3. I have been clicker training my cats over the last few weeks (because my puppy doesn't come home with us for 2 weeks yet), and we are loving it
  4. ValleyCBR, I am so sorry I could tell just by reading this thread how very much you love, and care for your dogs. I admire the courage it would have taken to do the right thing by your dogs, even though it must have been so painful for you. ~hugs~
  5. Awwww It was very difficult for me to decide to get another dog. I still cry when I think about my Malamute, and he passed away in 2003. I worried about losing another dog, and my ability to cope with the loss. But then, finally I remembered this, I have it in a book (that was given to me by my Grandparents in 1979!) but I found it online, don't know if you've all read it or not. The Last Will and Testament of An Extremely Distinguished Dog http://www.eoneill.com/texts/blemie/contents.htm And this bit
  6. This photo reminds me of a monster from a movie about 25 years ago, I cant remember the movie but it had a very wide mouth and lots of little teeth, just like this! I thought the exact same thing The movie 'Critters' I think? Great shots! Love the expressions!
  7. Look I totally understand but I'm trying to look at this from the perspective of your everyday chap who just wants to buy a dog. All of that technical stuff, personality conflicts, dog world politics just goes whoosh. We just want a puppy and when we get a great puppy and a super cool breeder, we talk about it. We puppy owners promote you breeders. If you talk ad nauseum about all the other stuff, we glaze over. I know that's pretty abrupt and I dont mean to be rude, but you guys need to use us (the puppy buyers) to be ambassadors for purebreeds, and the only way to do that is to be really lovely mentors - which I know you all are because my breeders have been super nice people that make me proud to be part of the purebreed world, but so often you hear the same stuff about breeders being snobs. We've all seen it. someone rocks up to a show because we all say - go to a show before you buy a dog - and they walk away dumbfounded because someone told them off for calling a 'girl' rather than a 'bitch'. (yes I actually watched that happening. It was pretty bloody disgraceful and the person involved went and bought a mongrel from a puppy farm as a result) Raz, as you know, I've been saying for some time that I've seen show people be rude to enquirers at shows and have been screamed at for saying so. It's not just my experience. I have seen a breeder run down other breeders to enquirers because of stupid bloody breed politics. I've heard other breeders run down other breeders dogs because of this, that and the other. Happy puppy buyers are the best ambassadors, I agree, because we're often not bound up in those things. Well, Steve, what do you want us to do? I like this. Seems so much better than the pet expos. I haven't liked to mention it before as there are a lot of show people here but when I was first looking for a puppy, I read all the advice and some of it was to go to a dog show and look at dogs, talk to breeders. No one was friendly, or helpful. I was definitely left with the feeling that 'outsiders' were not welcome and people who weren't involved in showing were suspicious somehow. I have to say it was a vastly difference to years and years ago (20years I think) when my family bought a Mini Schnauzer and we started looking for dogs at a dog show, people were happy to talk about their dogs etc. When anyone I know is looking for a puppy one thing I don't suggest to them is going to a dog show. I think that if I wasn't intent on buying a purebreed from a registered breeder by then I would not have continued to pursue buying a purebreed pup from a breeder. As it is, I specifically chose a breeder that doesn't show.
  8. ~steals Louis and kitty... snuggles them~ They are adorable!
  9. Hello everyone! Will have to have a sit down and a proper read through! Wuffles, so glad Ava is better, that must have been so scary Still patiently waiting here! 2 weeks and 5 days to go until puppy comes home with us We're pretty well organised now!
  10. He's gorgeous! Such an expressive face, I love it.
  11. He's gorgeous I love, love, love Bullys! A friend of ours just got a Bully puppy too, and I am jealous Give him a snuggle from me
  12. Thanks Ravenau1, I also looked up the list of PBS medicines and there it was! I am sure my vet is still putting a 100% markup on them all the same, going by the dispensed price on the list which is $46.50 for 200 tablets - PBS price to consumer, $33.30 for 200 tablets (so you are getting a very good deal!). I will be pursuing it further in any case. I have nothing to lose. Candy is doing brilliantly thanks. I hope you are! It is interesting that the dosage is so similar for you both! Maybe you weigh 23kg too??????? w2s It's certainly worth a shot! You're still paying twice the full price! I'd talk to my GP about it for sure, even if you don't get it on the PBS you're still saving a fortune. Hahaha! my left leg might weigh 23 kgs! I am doing great, thanks Flourinef is possibly the best thing that ever happened to me!
  13. What kind of artichoke? The one that looks like a root (jerusalem) or the one that has scaly kind of leaves (globe)? I've eaten the one with the leaves, just steam it then scoop out the fibres in the centre (don't eat those). Usually have with butter but I guess that wouldn't be good for your doggie
  14. I thought that might be the case woody2shoes! If you were getting 100 1mg tablets from your vet I was going to start getting my meds from my vet! lol. I think the difference in price is because the Florinef from the Dr/pharmacy for human use is subsidised by the PBS, where vet meds aren't. The $44 is probably the full price. I hope it all goes well for your lab and she responds to the treatment well I find it interesting that she and I are on exactly the same dose, but for different problems.
  15. Florinef costs me $28.95 for 200 x 100mcg (0.1mg) tablets for a human prescription. I use it myself, not for a dog but it's sure cheaper from a Dr. Might be worth asking. 1mg is a lot though... are you sure they aren't 0.1mg tablets?
  16. Hi KTB I noticed in the WA thread in General a while back there was much talk about cool coats from a place called Clean Run. Perhaps pop in there and ask about them, they seem popular and it gets pretty hot over here!
  17. Congrats! I am booked in with Houndstooth Studio for December for puppy pics
  18. As a puppy buyer who hasn't had anything to do with dogs in 7 years or so, and hasn't purchased one in over 10, I think this is really important. My last dog was purchased from a registered breeder, but I knew the breeder (happened to be my vet) so I didn't have to go looking. This time around was completely different, and the first place I started looking was the newspaper. I am just lucky that the breed I was looking for isn't that common and I had to widen my search (to online, eventually finding DOL) or I would no doubt have ended up with an unregistered dog. Even though, my whole life, my family has had purebreeds with papers I didn't think it was something that was important unless I was interested in getting involved with dog shows. I can't imagine that I'm terribly different to any other puppy buyer coming from the 'general public'. If more registered ethical breeders had ads in the pet section of the paper it would make it a great deal easier to find a quality pup. ETA: I should ad that if I had seen pups of my chosen breed in a petshop I probably would have bought one. I had an idea in my head that only little dogs came from puppy mills. Like toy poodles/cavs etc.
  19. Belgian.blue, my Dad had his camera fixed at a little camera repair place above a Vietnamese bakery down near Pier street. They were pretty good if I recall correctly.
  20. I love that shot Elbie's eyes always make him look like he's had too much coffee! Very alert
  21. dont worry, rave. I dont actually take street photography in Australia. You're safe ;) I will rest easy then Unfortunately there isn't a paranoid emoticon that I can find lol
  22. It would make me very uncomfortable, yes. If someone wanted to take pics of my dog and they asked, they could take as many as they wanted to as long as they didn't take any of me. And it's true, I wouldn't know if someone had had taken my pic, but some people have valid reasons for protecting their privacy and safety. If a pic of me ended up on a website in and in any way identified the area in which I lived I would be horrified. But it would be even worse if I DIDN'T know. If it was somewhere busy, like a shopping centre, or in the city or a fair type thing and there lots of people around I wouldn't be concerned. If I was walking my dog down my street, or at my local park however and I saw someone taking pics of me, to be honest I would probably call the police.
  23. I'm not a photographer or anything, but Kelly Munce, wow! This photo really, really takes my breath away, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen... Almost makes me want to cry! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kelly-Munce-...138173516203118
