Clastic, how scary! You are not a horrible owner, sometimes things just happen! So glad you found them safe and sound! KTB: We have that Walking Dead to watch too, just haven't got around to it yet, we are also falling behind on Stargate Universe which is one of my fav shows at the moment. Well, I am much relieved tonight! There has been a very large bushfire burning for a few days not far from my breeders house and I hadn't heard from her since she first mentioned the fire. I have been fairly worried as I checked on the map and the fire was REALLY close to her place! I heard from her tonight, she evacuated her family, the cats, adult dogs and the puppies from our girls litter but she has pups that are only a couple of days old and couldn't be moved so she stayed with them and the Mum in the house. With no power she unfortunately lost one of the new babies poor little thing. Everyone is back home now though and our girl is safe! Fire was deliberately lit!! ETA: There should be a special circle of hell reserved for people who deliberately light fires.

So sorry to hear this, Doberkids

The weather is crazy! You guys have almost flood conditions Over East, and we had the second driest winter on record here! And that's saying something.

lilli_star, it looks like Ruby had a great time! There seems to be a lot of puppy bed destroying that goes on!

The Ark: What beautiful dogs! It's amazing just how different they all look in the different colours! KTB: It's fascinating what dogs can smell/sense, and it's going to be interesting with our dog too. Dogs sure know there is something different about me, but it doesn't seem to bother them or freak them out, just interests them. If there's a group of people and dogs, you can bet the dogs are sniffing me . It's interesting that in WA at least (I imagine it's the same in other states) that if you have a seizure disorder and your pet dog starts indicating when you are going to have one, the Service Dog people will train your pet dog as a service dog for you. wuffles: Love all the shots of Ava!

If anyone missed it you can watch it on the SBS website, I just found it so my OH can watch when he gets home from work in a few hours.

I have no idea if fruit is bad for dogs, but my ex Husband grew up on an orchard, and the family Golden Retriever used to help himself to peaches and nectarines off the trees every season and it didn't do him any harm :D The whole debate about training methods does my head in sometimes. It's all pretty confusing to me so I am going to go with my own - What Makes Sense To Me - method and of course figure out what suits the doggy! I've read a heap of dog training books in the last few months (from all different 'camps' of thought) and the one that resonated most with me was Victoria Stillwell's book It's Me or the Dog (same as the TV series). I think I probably got the most out of that one. But like my OH said when we were discussing techniques and a training plan the other night - "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy" . It really will depend in large part on the dog! Niques: lol at James in the puddle! That would have been something to see! Betsy: Great pics! Love the chewed ball, looks like it's much loved! Lilli_star: Oh dear! What's wrong? Just saw your post. Sounds nasty! Hope you feel better soon! Can non-Spitz people vote in the Spitz Calender? I used to own one, does that count? We are going to go and visit our puppy on Saturday only 8 days to go until we pick her up! Though OH's work has changes his shifts around, so instead of being able to pick her up first thing in the morning we now have to wait until early evening! edited because Lilli_star posted while I was lollygagging.

Happy Birthday beautiful Holly Older pets are really such a gift!

I think I've seen them called 'pizzles', is that what you're thinking of lilli_star? I've read that some people swear by them, but plenty of people say they smell like bull pee

Great shots, Primedogs! Love your puzzle helper there does that account for the missing pieces? My OH has a puzzle here that is missing about 10 pieces, apparently his Lab used to sit under the table and snaffle any pieces anyone dropped According to the Mandalorian pronunciation guide ( ;) ) It's "Kan-DOH-see" it means Awesome, in a Star Wars Language :D

KTB: I'm very wary of dried chew treats now after reading all the dog fart info seems a lot of people have the same problem! We are going to visit my parents for a week in January, and there are a couple who own a farm that have a holiday house across the road. Whenever they are there they bring their two farm dogs, working Kelpies with them. They are both lovely dogs and very well behaved! They get walked for 2 hours twice a day when at the house though :D I will get some pics for you when we go down, being that you are a Kelpie person. You talking about the hat swatting reminded me of them I meant to ask a while ago, I am curious about something if you don't mind me asking. I remember you talking about Elbie not really liking to play with other dogs, and that you were really pleased that he liked playing with Hoover. Has the experience of playing with Hoover made him happier to play with other dogs now? Or is Hoover a special case? I don't blame the dogs for not wanting to go out in the rain hehehe! Not much of a problem here at the moment, or anytime really, as it doesn't seem to rain in Perth anymore. Primedogs: The breeder is choosing our puppy . Though I did grow up around a couple of Dobes that belonged to family members I don't have experience with working line Dobermanns, which our girl is (though I do have experience with 'difficult' high drive dogs) so I am perfectly happy with the breeders choice The only preference we had was for a female black and tan, though our breeder had no problems with giving us a male as she believes we could handle one, just we wanted to start off a little 'easier' for want of a better way to describe it ;) We haven't decided 100% on a name yet, but Astrid and Kandosii are the two front runners. I think it will probably be Astrid though

Sorry to hear that Dju, I really enjoyed looking at pics of the cute lil guy. Good luck with everything!

Aha! I can help with that one. It's this one - :p i.e. the love emoticon :D Yay! :D (hope that works!) Thanks KTB That fox tee is awesome! If only it came in a different shirt.. Haven't gotten any yet.. I am currently trying to decide which ones I like the most! I have 12 shirts and 1 hoodie in my cart at the moment!! Need to narrow it down, my budget is not allowing for $435 worth of shirts. LOL. I got the fox shirt in a lower neck in a lighter shade of orange I also have a hat with fox ears that I wear when it's cold, and a headband with fox ears that I sometimes wear around the house when the mood takes me :D lilli_star Glad you got it all sorted eventually! Sounds like Ruby had an awesome time :D

Where do you trade the voucher in? -
Niques Yes, we are all prepared! I think there are only a couple of things left to do, but I can't remember what they are! OH has a list :D Love those pics of James, he's just gorgeous. My OH is a Lab man, he drools over black labs constantly The whole puppy food vs adult food thing confuses the heck out of me too, and I don't even have the dog get :D KTB My OH is the same about the dryer. He comes from almost Canada ( :p ) - Michigan and it's the same there. The only things I ever saw on a line to dry were towels after people had gone swimming. They use dryers for everything, though at his house it was a gas dryer, not electric. I think it's a habit because of the fierce winters there, anything on a line in winter would be snap frozen. He's been here 4 years and he's still getting used to the fact our winters aren't the same. At the beginning of the month we went away for a weekend to somewhere it was quite hilly and the place we were staying was at the bottom of a very steep road. He remarked that the road would be hell when it was all iced up :D Not much chance of that in WA! Hope you're feeling better Clastic Did you get the shirts from Threadless? I love them just bought the fox shirt and The Horde ('cause I have a thing about Zombies ) the other day http://www.threadless.com/product/828/Foxy/style,shirt http://www.threadless.com/product/2059/The...rls/style,shirt I also love their hoodies, but I couldn't justify a new one when it's currently 40 degrees outside Max#1 I think they all go through that terrible, 'run away and never listen to a word you say' phase! I remember my Mal went through a stage and he was so horrible I began to wonder what awful thing I'd done in a previous life to deserve this sort of punishment My cat, Jinx has a black spot on her tongue, I wonder how she'd be with sheep? :D Dandybrush If I knew how to make the emoticon with the lovehearts in it's eyes I would! What an amazing looking dog!

What a scary situation for you to be in, and a difficult one. I'm glad the foxie will be ok!

Sure for sure. There is a staffy x pug in my local dog park. He turns heads every time he's there - the ugliest bloody thing you've ever seen in your life. His owner loves him and thinks he's beautiful and he gets great care so that's all that matters, but I've driven by with non doggy friends who have all said the same thing - shit that is ugly. They also point out other dogs and say - that's really beautiful! They wouldnt have a clue why one dog strikes them as shit ugly and another strikes them as really stunning. That's when it's our job to have a chat about well bred animals. A lot of people think Bulldogs are ugly, Chinese Cresteds, Greyhounds etc. Ive had people say to my face how ugly my Borders are and they are all well bred, move beautifully and are in show coat. Beauty vs ugly is subjective IMO. People used to tell me how amazing my Dobe x looked and wanted to know what breed she was, occasionally had ppl stop their cars to ask. Likewise our kelpie x whippet, some people weredrawn to her. I agree we need to get our well bred dogs out there but I wouldn't go as far as to say people cannot be as impressed by a mongrel as a pure bred. I don't necessarily see it as a cross breed vs purebreed issue. People who are into purebreeds want to promote them, that's understandable. Just because a well bred purebreed is a lovely thing to see, it doesn't mean that there aren't lovely looking cross breeds too, just my opinion. Some dogs, regardless of breed have a natural 'presence' that draws people to them. I've often wondered how owners of unusual dogs ever get anywhere on their walks with all the people that must come up to them! I know I do it myself  It's nice when people don't mind and will have chat to you about the dog

Happy (belated) Birthday to Ava and Kuma! Looks like everyone had a great time. Those biscuits you made looked yummy KTB, do you mind if I ask where you found the cutters? I wonder if I can talk OH into having a party for our Puppy on her birthday (which is also our Wedding Anniversary), they look like fun. Though my chances are fairly slim I think. Loving all the doggie pics, and I have to admit though all your dogs are lovely, I am seriously in love with Satch! He really is so striking looking! The whole dog humping thing puzzles me somewhat as I always thought some humping was normal doggie behaviour . Of course I imagine you don't want it to become a constant thing but I remember when i was growing up our GSD (female) would hump my Grandfathers Daschund (usually his head!) and no one really seemed bothered by it. If the Daschund got annoyed he would tell the GSD off, or someone would 'shoo' the GSD away. Same with killing things. Pretty much anything that came into the yard was fair game. The same GSD once broke into our chicken coop and killed most of our chickens. I was pretty upset because she killed my pet chicken named Paradise (who I used to push around in a pram ) but my parents explained that she was a predator and it was natural and it was our responsibility to prevent her, and if we didn't sufficiently then we were to blame, not her. She also was MA, that's Milkman Agressive (back in the day when milk was delivered). She also once bit a friend of the family, who used to tease her. "Served him right" was the general feeling. I guess these days she would be called a problem dog or something because of these things! Back then she was just a normal dog doing what dogs do. We also had a Keeshond when I was little. We moved from the country to the suburbs and she wasn't adapting well. My parents sent her to live on a farm. I always thought that was the usual code for her dying or them having her put down. It was only a few years ago that the subject came up at dinner with my parents and I discovered that she really DID go and live on a farm and she lived until she was 15! We have 12 days to go until puppy day Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and those of you who were burned are recovering! Oh, and KTB, I saw your puzzle thread in the off topic section and I have a puzzle fiend here too he's from a long line of puzzle nuts! Anyway it inspired me to get out a couple of our jigsaws again

Love the tail action

it is labeled as a purebreed forum but there is a whole section dedicated to rehoming orphaned dogs, most of which would not be pure bred. and about 95% of the topics aren't specific at pure breeds so if it's not being moderated i wouldn't think the general population would have a problem with it? Perhaps, but this thread is titled "Best Promotion of Purebred Dogs" So, it's about purebreed dogs. Of course they are going to be talked about. It's not about cute dogs, or dogs in general. I'm not sure why you can come into a thread titled as such and complain about it's contents when it's clearly stated in the topic title. Because some people love any excuse to whinge or feel "offended" about something. I guess so, just doesn't make sense to me. It would be like going into the Dobermann thread and complaining that they're talking about Dobes and not Poodles.

The thread is about the promotion of purebreed dogs. Not much point having a thread about the promotion of purebreed dogs if you don't mention purebreed dogs in it

We pick up our Dobe puppy in a couple of weeks I haven't seen one 'out and about' on the street being walked or in the park etc since I was a kid, so people don't really get to see them these days!

Any suggestions on how to help form a bond with a puppy or dog if you don't feel one?
