okay thanks, i will try that tonight, last night we fed her early and she went at 3:15am
-
yeah it could be, we are also going to try keeping her up a bit longer before she falls asleep and maybe a play session, see if it makes any difference, I don't mind getting up a bit earlier to let her out but 4am is a bit crazy. We're up at 5am We use to be up at 5.30am. Charlie, who use to sleep in to 8am, is up at 6am now. On weekends, we all sleep in till I get out of bed though I find that keeping my 2 up longer doesn't effect what time they wake up... once they sun is out, Emmy is up. She takes herself outside to do her business, and is back on the bed again and lays there to wait till I wake up. oh no!! I guess we will see how we go tonight, its just a bit hard because like i said she doesn't make a sound until she has done her business, and once she is up she is not keen to go back to sleep, unless someone stays with her.

dog door won't help, since she sleeps in a playpen so unless she can pick a lock or tunnels underneath she doesnt have access to the door :D
-
The strange thing is she only barks after she has done her business, never in advance so its hard to catch her before she goes, I just don't understand why after three months she doesn't wait till the morning. I will try and get her to go outside today, see how it goes, thanks for your help :D

we were advised to use fish oil to reduce dry skin, so we put some in with her dinner every night and it seems to have reduced the scratching

Hi Guys I have a five month old puppy and up until 3 nights ago she would go to bed at around 10pm and wake up around 7am, with no barking at all. however for the last three nights at about 4 am she has started barking ( for about 10 mins), the first two nights we ignored her and then this morning my partner gave in because she barked for two hours straight . we found that she had pooed in her playpen and this is what had been upsetting her, she is trained to go inside on pee pads, and has one in her playpen overnight but she usually always waits to go to the bathroom at 7am when she gets up. We have tried feeding her earlier ( 6pm) so that she will go before bed but she doesnt go. any ideas on what to do, as we cant have her waking up at 4am every morning and obviously this distresses her :D.

WE used them for our puppy from the day we brought her home and she hasnt missed yet now we are moving them closer to the door so we can teach her to go outside; although when we go out she at least has the pee pads inside for her to go on. get good quality ones, because the cheap ones can soak through to the floor

Hi Guys Well my 5 month old puppy picked up toilet training really quickly and aside from the first week she has not had an accident or gone where she is not supposed to..... however the other day we brought a new rug and she sniffed it for ages and danced around on it :p but she has now decided to pee on the rug, it has happened a couple of times so i was wondering if there is anything i can do to deter her specifically from this area? we still want her to be able to come into the room but just not to pee on the rug

yeah i am ordering one online, i figure its worth a go, I hate leaving the house thinking she is upset the whole time, let you know if it works
-
It might be worth a try, if it helps to calm her it might work when we are not there with her
-
we dont say anything when we leave, just put her in her playpen with a kong and toys, and when we come home we ignore her till she calms down and then let her out. she does like to be around people all the time, she follows us around the house, and if she wanders off she is constantly checking that we are still there.
-
Wow she hasnt tried to rip down a door yet, although weighing 1.6kg that might be a lil difficult yeah the neighbours say they hear her bark, and when i come home she is exhausted, her bed is flipped over and her water is spilt, I try to tire her out before I leave so that she will sleep but obviously she stays awake till we come home

hey guys i have been looking into getting a DAP diffuser for my puppy, mostly because she suffers from seperation anxiety when we are not home at the moment when we go out we leave her in her playpen with plenty of toys and her kong. radio on for comfort yet everytime we come home i can hear her barking, I am worried she does this the entire time we are gone . We also take ker for a walk or have a good play session with her before we leave so she is a lil tired out. So i just wanted to hear from anyone on their successes/ failures with using a dap diffuser. thanks

I might try getting her to play with another dog who likes squeakers, I just have no idea what freaks her out so much about them. we have to hide the squeaky toys in case she grabs one and nearly has a heart attack
-
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, my 5 month old is petrified of squeeky toys, if she accidentally steps on one and it squeeks she runs away as fast as she can. she hates the noise, which is a shame because lots of the toys we brought her have squeekers any ideas on getting her over this fear?
-
we have this stuff called scram, she doesnt like the taste of it but it doesnt smell particularly nice to humans either
-
we have placed a mat next to the couch and are trying to get her to go there..... I think its going to take a bit of work but I think it will be worth it to eat dinner without a lil puppys head on my plate
-
thanks guys she is allowed up most of the time its only when we are eating that we make her stay on the floor, we will keep trying to get her to jump off and give her a toy or treat and hope she gets it
-
Our lil four month old pup has finally grown enough to jump onto the couch, we do let her on the couch occasionally but only when she is calm and we get her to sit, which wasnt a problem before because she couldn't jump up, now we find she is constantly jumping up, even if we say a stern no and take her off the couch - two seconds later she is jumping up again, any ideas?
-
my four month old is the same, she has to get up around 7am but so long as she is able to sleep with me she will go back to bed for a couple of hours - after brekkie of course
-
Just be careful of the cheap ones, my lil pup ate all the grass off the top
-
We found our little puppy was eating her dinner in to minutes so we started putting it in her kong, takes her about 20 minutes now and she looks like she enjoys the challenge

I have to agree with PF. I'd never put anything like that on a leash, let alone a puppies! Dencorub is horrid stuff, It could easily burn the pups eyes or skin. (Bitter bite is another matter, it's designed for dogs, however as you've found out not all dogs react to it anyway.) Pomchi, if Link is on a harness then thats half your problem. How are you supposed to have any control? Try a martingle collar and a good leash, and persist with multiple short training sessions. I'm not sure how long your obedience sessions are but often they are way too long and puppies get bored. For leash training you can do that in 2-3, 3 minute session per day, at home in a low distraction environment. Use lots of rewards and encouragement when she does the right thing (praise, treats, etc.). As I said in my earlier post, if it was my pup I would work on stepping up leadership and NILIF for the time being. Chomping on the leash is pretty normal puppy behaviour and she will eventually grow out of it Another option might be a one on one session with a good trainer who can show you some techniques. In regards to an instructor suggesting the vicks, it wouldn't surprise me. There are certainly some great ones out there but also a few that like to take the easy way out -ie, if he pulls use a halti, if he barks use a husher, if he sniffs put vicks under his nose, if he doesn't learn well that's because you can't train that breed... heard tham all unfortunately I have to use a harness because she is a pomeranian, and prone to a collapsing trachea, so a harness is the safest option for her. I think she is trying to get me to do it her way, so now I just stop walking until she behaves, and since she loves walking it doesnt take too long, I am hoping after a while of this she will get past it or like you said grow out of it. Luckily she is treat orientated I have learnt to carry a supply of these in my pockets at all times, although that lil nose can sniff out any tiny piece of food.

frozen carrots, i never would have thought of that, might give that a try. thanks
