I prefer training that doesn't work straight away, because it's more then likely a quick fix imo. I love to take my sweet time with the training so i know i'm not cutting corners etc.
-
Oh it can by all means, but the only things i'll use is a flat collar, lead and harness! Can't wait to get my race harnesses ha ha! No you seem to be twisting my words around now, I never said using a head collar is cruel, i said what they can do can be cruel. You and me both!
-
I wouldn't call myself a dog trainer, I'm only 20 years old. But I've had my fare share of dogs that I've trained and helped owners over come serious problems with. Personally a flat collar and lead is harmless in the correct hands, although this might sound like i am contradicting myself since i am anti tools, i mean hatlis, E-collars, chocker chains etc not a simple lead and collar. Regardless of what people think i believe the methods i use are positive, much rather these methods then putting a halti on a dog which applies pressure in the most uncomfortable places and can cause the dog to struggle to breath (since some put pressure on the bridge of the nose), That is cruel. I respect that everyone is entitled to use whatever method they choose to use, i rather long term results then quick fixes!
-
So you are saying the method I use is hardly positive, wow thanks and it's nice to know! But i am not complaining since the dogs i have fostered and my two sibes i have currently do walk next to me beautifully. I'm not trying to come across as a 'big head' but imo i don't see a point using tools when you can use simple training methods. I have handled dogs who are hard to handle, pull like there is no tomorrow etc. It's not rocket science and i am pretty sure you don't need to spend money on all these tools to get a result. Same deal with horses, want them working correctly don't use side reins, chambons etc!

Is There Anyone Who Does Not Have A Heart Dog?
HollyE replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you for clearing that up for me ;) I am head over heals in love with Joey - I have only had him for 5 months (he's 6 months old) but i don't know how i'd survive without him. I love just being with him, i take him for a walk and find a nice grassy area and we just lay there together, when we get onto an open area once i say the words "go on joey" he goes crazy happy, i trust him off leash, But i make sure the area is partly fenced at lest. He's like the light in my life, he makes me happy, he's there when i am sad, he makes sure i am safe and happy right now he's laying next to my chair. He never leaves my side but in saying that i can leave him and he wont cry for me, he is such a good boy. He's my bestfriend and i'd never replace him! When we actually went to the breeders place there where 9 others and he just came over and sat onto my lap, he wouldn't go off with his sister and brothers, he'd just stay with me, He choose us! I Have another dog Zarly (husky) I don't have the same bond as i do with Joey, She is had over heals in love with my partner (Michael) but i love her so much as well, i don't know where i'd be without seeing her face every morning when i wake up, she usually licks my face though ha ha!!! -
hahaahah they would, Although my two are yet to blow their coats, i've never experienced it yet, i am SO excited!!

What's a heart dog? Sorry i am a little confused -
Husky? hahahah! ;) I've owned a Curly coated retriever but never a golden, i have had a Labrador though! Seeing both breeds a lot i have to say Golden Retriever.

It depends how you do it, If you sharply turn the dog is going to feel the strength from you turning around quickly, If you just STOP! THEN after a few seconds.. turn.. it's not as nasty as it might sound. It is more positive then using tools, no offence to the people who use them. Also the stopping and then going is positive, a lot more then tools.

Halti's, E-Collars etc imo throw them in the bin. The rescue dog i got last year with so severe with pulling sometimes i could hardly handle it. I done 4 weeks of training (i never want results straight away) and before i re homed her she was beautiful to walk. There is no secret, positive training is the way to do it, walk and turn is a great way and i have had excellent results doing so but also just stopping when they pull helps, they'll soon get it through their head

For me it's the Siberian Husky What made you choose your favourite breed? I have dreamt of owning one ever since i can remember, I remember meeting one when i was younger and just fell in love. That's my excuse What do you love about them? Their independence, the way they greet you after you've woken up ~ or get woken up by them, I love their coat, they way they look, they way they act, they way they play with other huskies, they way they woo woo (talk) to you, the way they eat, they way they poo EVERYTHING in other words! Do you currently own this breed or want to? I am owned by two! Look at these faces.. how can you resist!

This sounds exactly how my friend is with her Am staffs (same person in the above post).

Anyone going down this afternoon? I'm going with the pups
-
Huskies would be my favourite breed of dog by far. I only recommend them to people if their situation at home would suit the breed! Here is a site - http://users.tpg.com.au/users/cnicholl/owning_a_husky.htm Saves me typing and it pretty much sums up everything! I can say, owning two that they are amazing dogs and I'd not replace them for any other breed but i am pretty biased

Hey, Don't worry i wont be taking ANY risks with my pups, I keep the closest eye on them while they're off lead but we know a few of the dogs there so it's great, a lot of the dogs there are very friendly, we've never had a problem! Yeah it is, has a cricket pitch in the middle
-
Thanks heaps It's been as easy as 1 2 3, They're the best of friends and i wouldn't ask for it any different ;)

Thank you sooooo much everyone

I'll get exact directions a little later for you, We normally go every Saturday afternoon around 4:30-5:00pm many people are there at that time too, good for socialisation for the pups! x
