What happened to it involving AWL? Not RSPCA? Confused to that one. Have you considered that the dogs that were tested had been in the pound environment for an extremely long time, pound rounds could have taken those dogs out weeks before hand but hadn't even though they apparently had homes for the dogs. You have no problems with a dog being dog aggressive, and a fence jumper next door to you? Please tell me that you would be understanding why a pound would let out a dog with that temperament and when your dog is harmed or killed. Saving one dogs life does not justify that life taking another dogs life. pound rounds out of the picture, many pounds run temp tests, people are jumping up and down with little fact on what this temp test contains, and who ran the test. Little fact, lot of emotion. I suggest people find out what the temp test contains and see if they can work with council to get the best and fairest temp test available up and running as people have stated DAS is a particularly good one.

In theory that sounds good, I worry about the face of pound rounds who continually deny dogs being too dangerous to be released. It is all about rehabilitation (which in a perfect world would be great, but as it is, resources are simply not available to rehab all dogs) and they way they have taken dogs out and sent them off to homes where little to no checks are done. pound rounds all over attitude to 'rescuing' is worrying and it starts from their clarity of dogs in pounds and their behaviours.

Which is why temp testing these dogs that everyone has backed away from is a step in the right direction. And the way PR work, the dogs are released to anyone it's just not an adoption at the pound. So if the pound say 'release to rescue only' on the basis of health or questionable temperament they rely completely on trusting a rescue to do the right thing. These changes wouldn't have been brought in if everything was roses. I agree. The question for me Steve is why are council pounds knowingly releasing dogs under clause, via MN immediately into adopting family homes when knowing very well all normal adoption checks are not achieved and endless serious issues associated with this particular group are evident? Even when dogs have been deemed RTRO PR's have adopted these dogs into homes straight from the pound. They have been returned from the home due to medical/behavioural issues. Impounded again (third time) and then pulled out under clause AGAIN! via Pr's straight (wait for it!) into another adoptive home! By which stage the medical issues are extensive and very expensive, not to mention what the dog has been through, then there are at times associated behavioural issues. I spent years and years temp testing HP dogs. Ethical rescues have worked with HP for a very, very long time. The difference is that ethical rescues have the welfare of the animals as their first priority, regardless of circumstance. Our temp notes were deleted and or edited, MN still used the photos, then she made up her own story without ever having met the dog. She is a menace and IMO is about to shoot herself in the foot. The reason they can do it as there is no real law on it, 16D's don't mean ethical rescue, all this has just been a ticking time bomb, now it has set off hopefully some good will be come of it.

Off pound rounds FB page again Statement from Animal Welfare League NSW CEO Tim Vasudeva AWL NSW is aware of some misinformation which is currently being distributed by social media and other means in relation to AWL and Blacktown Council Animal Holding Facility. To clarify the facts of the matter: AWL was recently approached by Blacktown Council with a request to assist them in providing training for their shelter staff and volunteers to better understand dog and cat behaviour, and to allow them to progress the development of their own training protocols for staff and volunteers and their own behavioural assessment and rehabilitation programs. We provided Blacktown with guidance regarding training courses for staff and volunteers, and have provided detailed information regarding AWL’s own behavioural assessments and rehabilitation protocols which have made a significant contribution to the dramatic increase in rehoming rates at AWL’s three Sydney shelters. Consistent with its commitment to rehome all healthy or medically / behaviourally treatable animal, AWL have worked very hard on behalf of the animals that come into our care each year, and have improved rehoming rates significantly to 83% of all shelter animals this year, up from less than 50% two years ago. Of the 17% euthansia rate for the current year, approximately half are for medical reasons and half for behaviour reasons. This has been a concerted effort on the part of every member of our Veterinary, Behaviour, Shelter, Foster Care and Volunteer teams. Please also bear in mind that AWL mostly takes in owner-surrendered animals, so unlike pound facilities our reclaim rate for lost animals being returned to owners from our shelters is basically zero. AWL is happy to provide support to Blacktown Pound in their efforts to provide better training to their staff and volunteers to understand animal behaviour, however as part of that support AWL will not be conducting formal assessments of Blacktown Pound animals and all decisions regarding the rehoming or non-rehoming of Blacktown Pound animals continue to remain with Blacktown Council and their staff. We would continue to encourage Blacktown Council to employ a qualified Behaviourist or Behavioural Trainer to manage and oversee the training and assessment programs put in place for their animals. AWL has a long history of supporting other animal welfare organisations where we are able to assist. In the case of Blacktown Council Pound this included the formal presentations made by myself and Dr Rob Zammitt to the May 2012 Blacktown City Council meeting on behalf of AWL NSW, RSPCA NSW and a significant number of local veterinarians which resulted in Council voting to introduce compulsory desexing of animals released from Blacktown Pound. More recently we have been holding discussions with Blacktown City Councillors in conjunction with RSPCA NSW in an effort to provide regular low-cost desexing capacity to pet owners of low socio-economic means in the Blacktown area. AWL will continue to assist other rescue and welfare organisations and their animals where we are able to. Tim Vasudeva Chief Executive Officer

If pound rounds were true in any of their meanings they would continue to work with a pound even though the pound does not do as they are dictated to by the 16D holder. Instead they will not help a rehomeable dog that might be in Blacktown. That is a direct contradiction to their 'philosophy' but in direct correlation to what occurs when everyone that does not bow down to them and their subsequent attacks that will just be starting on Blacktown Pound. Temperament assessments are not perfect, but pounds do have some responsibility to make a decision, once a dog comes into their pound and assessed as a risk if released. Hopefully they will recognise responsible rescues and work closely with them in some decisions, especially breed specific issues. Pound rounds had no discretion in pulling any and all dogs out, nor in any consequence of who they gave the dogs to. I do wonder if this temperament test was implemented because of one or many incidences that have occurred with pound round released dogs.

Rescuing Dogs From The Taree Area Continues
Malti replied to Malti's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I've been copping it again from the Greyhound Racing - Don't Bet On It people so I know how it feels to have to deal with those who are "reality-challenged" (to put it nicely). It's always disappointing to see ego getting in the way of helping dogs and I've noticed Facebook tends to make it much worse. One person with their own agenda (not necessarily an agenda that helps dogs) can quickly obtain a following because there's no direct debate, just the sneaky slinging of rumours. Having that following gives them power and the ability to influence other peoples' opinions. That in itself is worrying, it's even worse when the people in question are bat-sh*t crazy to start with. Malti, you have my sympathy- some people are more concerned with pushing their own barrows than actually saving dogs and it really does suck. Edit for typos It did make me laugh about 'people pushing their own barrows' sadly true though, it is nice to contact good people who aren't bat-sh*t crazy though and truly caring about the dogs than their own egos Malti, please pass on my congratulations to the lady. Her photography skills do the dogs proud. Positive things like that make time & space- wasting emails look pathetic by comparison. HA, I agree what you said about Facebook. There's the best of it and the worst of it. The best is like what's being presented in the Taree Dogs page. The worst of it, is people having a public platform with nothing to balance what they say. Many people, tho', are becoming suss about that & keep an open mind. I passed your message on to the photographer, she believes it comes down to editing but I know that is a lie, my old photo's could have been edited and they still wouldn't have come out looking like that. FB - don't even get me started on that today.... Thanks for sharing the dogs, I guess that is the upside of FB, and thanks for understanding why I felt the need to put my POV out there -
Rescuing Dogs From The Taree Area Continues
Malti replied to Malti's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
It seems to be alive and well, shocked that almost a year later that I find out what has been going on. The dogs may get over looked by this one rescue, but many other wonderful rescues support our pound dogs and for that I am thankful for Thanks Mita, I felt this need to be addressed in case people are getting the wrong idea about our pound and the dogs in need, who knows how many emails are circulating! With the photo's, a new lady has just started to help and her photography skills are amazing and very lucky to have her, the photo's makes the dogs look so good and get a better accuracy on what they look like than the old ones. Thanks Powerlegs :) -
I feel the need to write this, to set the record straight. Recently I was contacted by someone in regards to a rescue stating I was responsible for dogs being killed in our pound. The person had emailed this rescue asking if they would rescue a dog at our pound and was rightly concerned by the response. I already knew this rescue group had pulled out of our pound, and their excuse being, I had slandered them. The real reason which I have records of was that I disagreed on one solitary rescue group's ethics and would not assist them getting dogs from our pound (they do not need to go through me anyway) they can go straight through council. At the time the rescue in question also stated they were intending to start a petition to encourage other groups to stop helping our pound dogs. I put it behind me feeling it was just someone having a tantrum and continued helping our pound dogs that had no local adoption or rescue. Almost a year later and with a euthanasia rate that continues to drop, I find out they have been sending out these emails to people when they contact the group and the accusations are being made repeatedly. I have asked the rescue in question to stop the emails, but had no luck and they still continue. I feel I deserve a right of reply and the truth to be told. Point of fact: they supported Pound Rounds, I didn't. They felt that single difference was significant enough to unconditionally pull support and encourage others to do so. I have the messages to prove that is the truth. I don't intend to make threats of legal action or accusations of defamation/slander/libel, I find that tedious and counter productive. Please do not contact me asking who the rescue is. Nothing will stop us working for our pound dogs. However if there is information going out that I should not or will not be approached regarding rescue assistance, this negatively affects our work here. Many thanks to the groups who have been stepping up to help. We couldn't do it without you.

R.I.P Elfie how shattering for the owner my thoughts are with them

I was getting depressed too and agree I couldn't agree more with the above statement ... and that's why I aspire to be like Powerlegs... she has it all going on as far as I'm concerned... as close to a perfect example of using both heart AND mind to find great homes for each and every one of her charges as you'll get I reckon. Dealing with people is often the hardest part of rescue... and we ALL need to be mindful that our daily stresses don't filter though to the adopting public in a negative way. T. and again agree, I would like a cheque now too

wow that is rather funny considering photo's that she circulates degrading rescues. It seems her intentions are for things to change and sees herself as a driving force in that but from the day she has started the bitching from her and her supporters has been great and it continues to this day. One minute she says she believes a few parts of the quote and the next she tries to say she has only heard these from people and doesn't agree with it. She really needs to make up her mind and stop looking to be a victim in a situation she has happily put herself in for her vindictive, egotistical beliefs that she must be obeyed or you will be named and shamed. They have a 16D but palm dogs off to other rescues, that still makes no sense to me and is a breach of the 16D guidelines as far as I am aware of.
-
I think this would be better addressed straight to Pound Rounds for answering and what their 'new' ways are. As for the 'type' of dog they take on, that is their decision, rescue groups take on dogs they believe they can responsibly handle, if they are taking on 'types' of dogs that are problematic. That is their responsibility and if a dog is displaying worrying behaviours a behaviouralist should be consulted, as any ethical rescue would. But then that leads to the problem of them not being a rescue group as they regularly state. It is not about picking fault with them it is the experiences people have had with them are bad, simple as that really. Glad you have had a positive one in dealing with them.

Sorry JRT rescue it would take more than that one gesture to undo what has been happening with that group

2 Whippets Rescued Today By Iggy Rescue
Malti replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
So glad they are now in care, will hold off on my judgement on their previous care, but thank you to Dogmad, Scallywags and anyone giving these dogs a chance. Just heartbreaking -
If you look back on the first page of this thread you will see one persons account of foster caring for them. There are other things like a 'foster carer' they got for another group and gave a dog to, and the rescue knowing nothing about the foster carer or dog once contacted by the unsuspecting 'foster carer' and a few others I can think of
-
I am guessing like many incidence this group have been involved in it will be swept under the carpet and deleted like it never happened. The people that can do the most are the ones this happened to, I hope kizzyneo may work with you on reporting this incident to the local council and the DLG, the two authorities that can address the issue at hand.

I still see a few links and pictures about them Oh crap my eyes are failing me, I swore I couldn't see any just before I have been blocked from posting....geez just coz I asked :would I get a tax invoice if I donated. How could you ask such a thing I was blocked long ago, seems asking questions is bad
-
Very true, but they have more responsibility to upholding what the guidelines and laws dictate and make them much more reportable if they breach them. I would dread to count the amount of incidents that have occurred, knowing of a few was more than enough, what has remained quiet under their veil of 'you can only agree with us' mentality would be even worse (one would guess)
-
Yes but I think they see foster carers as different to the way they are seen traditionally. For most a foster carer is attached to a group and works under their policies ,covered by their insurances etc - but these guys sort of see them as private contractors .So they have them working for them [ voluntarily ] but they dont really work for them they work for them selves. [voluntarily] Its different but legal. But if they are giving their 'foster carers' dogs that are microchipped in their name(they stated in one of their facts) they are their responsibility aren't they? Especially having a 16D, the information on the dog would need to be changed into another persons name, but until then they are legally responsible for the dog and what happens, isn't that law? The way they see it and what is actually representative of their responsibilities does not mean they skirt the law from my understanding. Just on the issue of other people working with them, unfortunately they have attacked rescue groups, people, and people that actually work hard at being ethical and responsible in dog rescue. Why would anyone want to work with them? They are seen to have questionable practices, and from what I have seen, if you do fall out with them it is fairly vindictive, and childish that only allows people to be railroaded by them to do things their way. I have seen on facebook where someone was a 'foster carer' and that 'foster carer' believing they were working with that rescue group and tried contacting them, only for the rescue group to not know of the person or the dog in question. This is where it gets worse. How many dogs are out there with microchips in a rescues names that they do not know about? or is it only a one off incident?
-
I think the group need to get their story straight, on looking at their site it clearly states they have foster carers. One even stated a dog that went missing was microchipped to pound rounds. They really need to start figuring out what they are or are not, not just contradict themselves continuously. They also state they put themselves between pounds and adoptions, but take no responsibility from that, but it is just to save people money. This group of people are just beyond words, and preying on people who have good intentions and do not know what they are really contributing to is very sad. Their financial claims of not covering a third of their costs seems a bit too much to believe as well. When will it end
-
yeap, but another thing to throw in just to confuse things a bit more and make sure it doesn't seem like they are related back to PR is that people are now starting up rescue's on a social networking site, the people starting these 'rescues' are PR people in some way, some are in other states, some are in the same area. So someone may not even know they are really getting a dog through PR's......... hope this makes some sense
-
That is their usual tactic, I think it is to deflect blame, and remove themselves from the messes they get into. They contradict themselves so often it isn't funny, and the ones responsible blame others and ignore any communication unless it is to abuse, deny, threaten, intimidate. I believe there are a lot more people that have been caught up by their tactics but have been threatened and made feel isolated. I hope some of them see this and come forward. They run by the theory if you delete something it never happened
-
They are a rescue group, they have a 16D that they would be using to pull the dogs out under (or at least some), even if they 'facilitate' a person to get a dog from out of area, if that dog has come out under their 16D aren't they the rescue the person that adopts the dog turn to if there is a problem(the group pay for the vet work, the person pays the group money for the dog - that is rescue even if it is immoral). The group is reportable to the DLG, the pound, the council area the dog came out of, and the ATO.
