  1. Yup Two of my favourite animals together! Reminds me of this old beautiful picture of dolphin doggy kisses
  2. ;) That's hilarious! We had a similar experience after Elbie started eating lamb flaps. I knew that some dogs that have a raw diet end up with chalky white poos but Elbie only eats lamb flaps every now and then so we weren't expecting the chalky whites. My husband came in one day after his turn at poo picking and said: "Some of Elbie's poos are all white and look like they've been there for years!" It took us a while to realise that it was the lamb flap aftermath. ;)
  3. You take that back!!! I'm willing to be told to piss off but there are limits .... No thesaurus swallowing - just some yummy chocolate cupcakes. Also, don't worry about the undies around the ankles - I now regret posting in any thread that isn't related to puppies and toilet-training. It's lucky my fur is non-flammable
  4. Boring. You're doing the same thing.....go off look in the mirror for an hour or so and practice what you preach. Bull Terr(ific), much as I am extremely loathe to defend labsrule, from what I can see, he/she was actually defending your right to be forthright in expressing your views and I was the person being flambéed by him/her et al in relation to my exhortation to be polite. Also, for what it's worth - I do apologise for appearing to be calling you an ill-mannered boor - it wasn't intended in that way. Like everyone here, you are of course totally entitled to express your views in any manner that you see fit.
  5. Thanks all for the info! That's very, very helpful! CleoJ: Wow, so many choices. Does Shandy have a favourite place? dianed: elbie doesn't get carsick, he just barks a lot in the car, only turning quiet if bribed with food We will work on longer distances with him before attempting the beach journey.
  6. chi4me: I'm so sorry to hear about your news. In relation to the breeder - it must be heartbreaking to have something like this happen :'( My thoughts are with all of you.
  7. :D I suppose we could try! He settles when we're driving on a straight stretch of road - he gets very barky when he hears the indicators though. My husband and I are going to be deaf soon. Thanks for the info - I will check Google maps!
  8. It's been years since I've been to the coast and Elbie's never been! I've been looking at people's photos with their doggies at the beach with a great deal of envy so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for any dog-friendly beaches that are reachable from Canberra? He's still quite vocal in the car so we wouldn't want to drive for toooooooooooo long We would be keeping him on-lead - a longish leash but still on-lead Thanks heaps in advance!
  9. Oh ... well I'm in Melba so there's an oval right near us which is kind of near the school but I'm not sure it belongs to the school as such - it might just be a public sports field. I see lots of people there throwing frisbees, running their dog or just sitting there reading - whenever there's not a game on. It is a very perfect place for Elbie to run around and he's always on lead so people don't have to feel apprehensive - it just means we can use a longer leash and not get tangled up with anything
  10. This thread is sooooooooooooooo bad for single-dog families ...
  11. I am getting puppy clucky and want to steal both of them now
  12. How cute is she? I adore her ears and her plaintive expression. Can't wait to see more photos - such a beautiful, beautiful-looking doggie.
  13. I'm really glad you posted this question. I don't have any solutions but I've been pondering it myself. We've not let Elbie off-lead in an unenclosed area yet - just don't feel confident enough about it yet. In enclosed off-lead areas, he tends to not wander very far from us at all usually and will always come when called so we can't really 'test' how he is. During obedience classes, he has 100% recall - but that's on the leash. We bought a 5m long leash and have been using that with him at the local school soccer field. We run around with him, throw a ball and a frisbee and let him do his own thing and then call him. The thing is, he never tends to wander very far from us in the first place so recall isn't something we can test i.e. he never pulled the leash taut. On a shorter leash, if he sees a car he tugs to the end of it but in an "I am paying attention" fashion and with the longer leash, even when the cars were whizzing past the oval, he didn't show much interest them. I am guessing we can 'trust' him offlead when he can walk on the leash without being distracted by cars/cats/people/other dogs etc
  14. From what I can see, dobesrock has been polite and civilised in articulating her views and has not sought to demean and insult others. Others responding, regardless of whether they agree with her views would do well to emulate such conduct. It doesn't really matter how 'right' a person's convictions are if the message is distorted during the communication process or the person's inability to express himself/herself articulately makes others dismiss that person as an ill-mannered boor.
  15. He has grown like a weed! Fortunately it appears to have been healthy growth - I was a bit anxious about it because he was desexed far earlier than we would have liked and we'd heard that that can lead to crazy growth ... I'm just glad my Cutie Cow pyjamas didn't show up anywhere. Then again, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one whose had pyjamas have a cameo in a dog video - I have a recollection of seeing a few others recently ;) The latest trick I've been trying to teach Elbie is to balance a dog biscuit on his nose. It's very funny but then I hope I'm not being cruel to the poor baby
  16. Hi Goofy - thank you for posting. Realistically, I do not think you should have expected to be able to change any opinions here - such is the way of diametrically opposed viewpoints. I'm not a petshop pet person myself but I always think that it's interesting and important to read as many points of view as possible - something my parents taught me and something my training has also taught me. It's not really a 'debate' unless you have more than one perspective advanced - it just becomes a sermon or a rant, so even where I don't agree with certain standpoints/actions, I do think it's important to have the opportunity to read the rationale for all the various positions. I worked for a number of years in China and very much resented the restrictions imposed on my ability to obtain information and differing views so upon returning to Australia, I have developed a greater appreciation for the ability to have a 'true' debate and to hear all opinions no matter how unpopular and diverse they may be
  17. Thanks! It was fun to use the software. I am running low in Elbie videos for source material so if anyone wants a video made of their fur kid, then let me know :D Just need to give me the video clips and a preferred song
  18. Thank you! Elbie was EXTREMELY cute as a wee pup. They grow up so quickly!!! It's ridiculous! Unless you know of a breed of dog where the grown up dogs retain their cute snubby puppy snouts, I fear we are going to have to get Elbie's snout docked to retain his cuteness
  19. Elbie's first music video and my first attempt at vidding Video is .
  20. Yesterday I was watching a great video that wuffles made of Ava. Inspired, I decided to try to figure out how to use Windows Movie Maker. Here is Elbie's first music video and my first attempt at vidding ... Be gentle! Video is .
  21. Maybe you should try a tucker ball) for Marley? I've got some videos of Elbie using his in this thread. It takes him quite a long time to get the food out and I don't think he can bury it. Beware that the tucker ball can be a bit pricey depending on which shop you go to but if you shop around online you might be able to find a cheaper price? Good luck!
  22. Thanks for letting us know! I've bought one for Elbie :D My husband is laughing at me because I'm always buying things for the puppy
  23. I share your perplexity about the whole: 'right food' issue. My puppy's been on Hills since he was about 10 weeks and has been fine ... I know everyone here hates it but I'm hesitant to switch him off it since: (1) he's doing so well on it - healthy, correct weight, shiny coat etc...; and (2) there doesn't seem to be agreement on what the best kibble actually is .. He gets the occasional lamb flap but it's mostly Hills kibble.
  24. dwilds: she's beautiful. can't wait for more photos.
