K9pro Online Shop Great Customer Service
koalathebear replied to sunnyjohn's topic in General Dog Discussion
Must have changed :) When I bought stuff before, I had to place the order then pay then send an email with receipt details. Like I said, it didn't really bother me and I certainly never had any delivery problems! -
K9pro Online Shop Great Customer Service
koalathebear replied to sunnyjohn's topic in General Dog Discussion
All my stuff from K9Pro has always arrived extremely quickly. The only clunky thing is the payment i.e no direct payment online, you have to pay and then email but that's no biggie. I've been happy with the speed and also the condition of the goods when they arrive. I've also had great experiences with topbuy. Cleanrun was also great - last year, I ordered two massive boxes when the shipping was free. One went missing so they resent that box again. Then the original box turned up and they said that I couldn't send it back so they asked me to donate the stuff to dog rescue, which I did :) I think I've been really lucky with all of my online purchases. -
Canberra And Surrounds Dol Meet (with Furkids)

Hee! You have a good memory  My two will be there this Sunday. Hoover will be so happy to be the chased instead of the chaser and Elbie will be looking forward to vying for the ball with Lando  -
Grass Eating - Are They Sick?
koalathebear replied to LOLAFOLATA's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Elbie has never been a grass-eater but Hoover has been a grass grazer since he was a young pup. He's looking spethal because he's being photographed while chewing, not because the grass is of the narcotic variety  It never seems to upset his tummy - I think he does it for fun. The only downside is that sometimes long strands of grass lead to danglers and then human intervention is needed to pull things out -
Regarding the original post (not going to enter the burning building debate), given that when it's a dog vs human scenario - the dog is pretty much always going to lose out no matter how blameless it is. While I agree that it's "my dog my rules", the fact is that we do take a risk every time we go out with our dogs that someone badly behaved might push our dogs to behave in a way that causes it to react badly - they are dogs, after all. I'm lucky that so far my dogs seem to be very bomb proof and happy to ensure exuberant patting, ear pulling and poking - but I know that they are still dogs and that at the end of the day, the creature that suffers won't be the human or me - it will be my dog. We usually try to request that the stranger (adult or child) waits for us to settle and sit our dogs before they get pats. 95% of people comply. There are the 5% who are already in for the pat, seemingly materialising out of nowhere before we can say anything, but there's really nothing we can do about those except to not take our dogs out in public - which is just not an option. There are heaps of parents who seem completely unconcerned when their children approach and pat strange dogs without permission. There's even a guy at work who admits that his kids have been bitten 'heaps' of times because they've patted strange dogs but they still do it because they love dogs so much :p A little while back, we were at the dog park with some other dogs and I was quite shocked to see a father leave his little kid alone in our yard while he took a call in the other yard. Among us, we had an akita, a large black dog, an Australian Shepherd, two Kelpies and two border collies in the yard and while they are all very friendly and well-behaved dogs - the father certainly didn't know that when he left his kid alone. I think all of us as dog owners were quite careful about keeping an eye on the kid to make sure he didn't do anything stupid because even though he wasn't our responsibility, as I said above - it's always going to be the poor dog that loses out in the end during an incident. I guess I just do my best to to minimise risk in the circumstances given that the "the child was badly behaved/it was the child's fault" defence is almost never, ever going to work even if one does have the comfort of having the moral high ground i.e. as dog owners, the well-being of our dogs ultimately rests with us.

Hi Elbie howled like a banshee the first few nights we got him. We eventually got him to stop by putting the crate up next to our bed and sticking our fingertips into the crate and letting him have sniffing access to our hands. Then the crate was moved to the ground, then further away - eventually to the kitchen. I had a horrible first week but if you survive the first week, it goes well after that  We toileted Elbie every 2 hours when we first got him, then every four. Hoover our second dog was easier to toilet train - i.e. we got to the "sleep peacefully overnight" thing quite quickly.

Here is the last video of the doggies at the beach. Elbie swims in this one. The song starts in the middle and the video ends with footage of them trotting around the beach early this morning just before we pack up to drive back to Canberra. betsy - they are tired! They've been unconscious for much of today -

Updated with some more photos. The doggies and us went to South Durras this weekend for their first trip to the beach. We stayed at a gorgeous house called the South Durras Escape They had such a good time at the beach -
On the positive side, I do think pitties are beautiful dogs. OH and I have made videos for a few rescues - I do the videos and he takes the photos. Some photos below of dogs that have been rehomed here in the ACT. Scarlet The lovely Delta (her video)

Glad you liked them. I hope you don't mind that I filmed them - I love videos of the doggies being happy and at play  We've got something on the next two weekends but after that, would love to meet up again. I've suggested to some of the other Canberra people that we should probably take advantage of the BBQ facilities, too one weekend. BBQ and doggy play date all rolled up into one :) -

My two joined a Canberra DOLer doggy play date this morning. They had never met any of the other dogs before and there were HEAPS of strange dogs at the park today - but they had an absolute ball. I was very pleased with how well-behaved they were. I also loved the dog park with the trees and grass. It's the nicest one I've been to so far. -

Here's the second video of all of our doggies and the other friendly dogs in the dog park today. Hoover really loved that Weim puppy. There were also a hysterical few moments when the small white fluffy was chasing him around the park. He's used to doing all the chasing! ETA: Gals - we were lucky to miss the rain. It has been pouring on and off this afternoon. -

It was great to meet up with you all. I've got two videos. One is uploading now but this one features Elbie, Hoover, Ziggy, Lando and that adorable ball-mad corgi puppy who didn't know he was a little dog :) It was funny how he managed to get the ball off Elbie more than once. -

Thank you! We love them, too. They go to agility at Belconnen Dog Obedience Club. We went to obedience every Sunday for the last year but decided to take a break from obedience last term. They also have doggy play dates with Mars, Pepper, Ava, Satchmo, Kuma and Shandy. Are you at BDOC, too? :) -
My dogs are in the backyard when we're not home. If there's bad weather, then we let them have access to the kitchen via a doggy door. If we're only ducking to the shops, then we'll leave them in the house with access to the yard - I wouldn't leave them unattended in the house. They're not destructive but they'd probably sleep on the sofa and bed when they know they're only supposed to do that if invited up  When Elbie was a young puppy, he was crated when we left the house, mostly because the yard of our previous house wasn't entirely puppy proof and he was so small we worried he'd just vanish. These days, the crates are just used for sleeping - with the door open.

Would You Take Your Pup To The Vet On A Leash?!
koalathebear replied to Cavamum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Both my dogs as pups walked into the veterinary surgery and walked out, too ... and also dashed around the yard in the back during puppy class. Some people do bring their dogs in crates but at our vet's it's usually cats in crates and dogs on a leash. -

Heh. My two are spoiled, despite Elbie having a permanently anguished expression  Some new photos ... Hoover with the famous, "award winning" dog toy brought back by OH from Toronto. Neither dog likes it Sway was temporarily out of stock of antlers (which our two LOVE) so I bought some antlers from a different etailer. The dogs hate this antler: Dogs using kitchen table as a crate -
Agility And Obedience Classes
koalathebear replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Do you mean clubs that let dogs run around on the training ground when other dogs are training? At our club we have two large fields and two smaller fields. One of the small ones is for recall work and one of the small areas is for letting dogs run around like pork chops. I don't mind dogs running around in there except when we are trying to do stays - it's so tempting for the poor doggies who are trying to stay but other dogs are running around. Otherwise I'm not fussed by people letting their dogs run around in the off-lead area. It can be frustrating when people let their dogs run around on the actual training ground off-lead when people are training (I think it's not fair on the dogs that have to be on lead) but fortunately this is pretty rare at our club and ALMOST no one does this. As for whether we let our dogs run around before or after - depends on how we are feeling (humans that is  ) Sometimes after class, we are tired/busy and just want to get the hell out of there. Other times, we'll let the dogs run around with their buddies. As for running around before class, it makes little difference to our two. They are both very high energy, drivey dogs and it's not possible to tire them out - again it depends on how the humans are feeling. Sometimes I let them run around before class, sometimes not. Even if they run around like crazy, they are exactly the same during class with no visible diminution in energy/focus/craziness. I sometimes wonder if Kelpies are solar-powered/wind-powered/air-powered -

Don't ask me why, but the O'Connor pharmacy sells dog toys - including rubber grenades lillistar: love the grin on Roo's face. I don't know how you make her look so happy when my two always look so agonised when dressed up. dandybrush: the doggles are just for fun but apparently they are supposed to be for eye protection  ravenau1: I am impressed with how distinguished Astrid looks with her tinsel. She looks like an Elizabethan lady  clastic: I LOVE this photo. She is always cute but in this one she looks so wild Mars Bar looks so plaintive and cute in the latest two photos. I reckon he and Elbie go to the same school for Melting Looks. -
