Haha! It's funny, usually we get dogs who are too THIN so we have fatten them up. The only dog that went the other way was Ollie, he was a little porky when we got him so we slimmed him down. As you can see from this video, Elbie and Hoover helped with Ollie's weight loss programme from the first moment they met him!!! And here's a photo from former foster Baxter's owners. Baxter was previously Nova the sad and mistreated Kelpie.

Oh that's such a shame!!! My brother is the same. He LOVES Hoover so much but he is so deathly allergic to dogs that just a few cuddles and pats and he's sneezing up a storm. Sadly for me, there is never a shortage of working dogs around ... there are way way way way too over-represented in pounds and it is heart-breaking :'( Kelpies and Kelpie mixes are such a dime a dozen and people treat them like rubbish but they are SUCH smart, beautiful, loyal and smoochy dogs ... *gets off soapbox*

They all love your tugs, CBD! Dan's also impressed with them because the dogs will entertain each other with the tugs. They're awesome :D

Oh and he has a meet and greet this Sunday with a lovely-sounding family in Canberra. If for some reason he's not suitable, we'll drive him to Sydney to be reunited with his original foster mum :)

Crazy ears Most importantly, he has an Off Switch

In other news, while we are on a break from fostering.... we kind of have a temp care foster with us right now. Meet Miller. He's a 6 month old Border Collie Cross. Little Miller was adopted by a very loving family a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, his Adopted Grandmother was hospitalised last week and the family were unable to keep him because of pressures from extended family. We are trying to find him a new home in Canberra to save him another Long Journey, but if we cannot, he will go back to his original loving foster carer who is very, very happy to have him back. Miller was originally dumped along with his littermates at the pound. His whole life, he has grown up with young children and dogs and is a very friendly and happy little dog. He loves people, gets along beautifully with other dogs. He waits for his food and can sit, drop and rollover. He is also house-trained and travels well in a car. He also walks well on a loose leash. He was not crate-trained, but we put him in a crate last night and he was fine and he slept quietly all night in his crate until we let him outside to toilet this morning. Heaps of photos of Miller are here, but just a few for this thread :) Our three took to him just fine and were introduced to him in our kitchen. No aggro or tension. Elbie, Hoover and Dodge always seem to be fine with the fosters. He has dark, soulful eyes He is just slightly smaller than Dodge He is very friendly

So, as chequeredblackdog has mentioned, she has put a ton of photos of Smudgie over in the Kelpie thread here. I've stolen a few of my favourites to post here. Smudige loves her big brother Reggie sooo much Though small, she is plucky! Beautiful Smudgie ...

It is a very nice chair and many people have admired it :) Here is a photo of Nutmeg (now Nina) at the local park playing with other doggies. Her new owners say that she loves playing with all dogs - big and small and she has learned how to get the ball and bring it back to be thrown again :)
-
Alas, Nutmeg's new owners aren't big on updating but she is in a wonderful home and I did receive this lovely photo of her :) I still miss her and Smudge so much - chubby little buddies, waggy tails and funny little puppy noises :) I really hope I never have fosters with me for so long again. The longer they're with you, the sicker they are - the more attached you get
-
Hee hee! Yes, cbd adopted little Smudgie. I couldn't be happier. The visit was a meet and greet to make sure that all the doggies could co-exist peacefully. Reggie seems as game as Hoover for having his head nommed by a puppy and Sadie endured the pesky puppy so all went very well :D There were a few applications for Smudge but I kept waiting for the perfect home to come along and it did :) Hopefully I didn't misrepresent Smudge - I think she's wonderful but I am probably biased :D

Alas no, we're taking a break from fostering for a bit. I'm still a bit traumatised. Ducky's going to carer in Sydney, but we did get some puppy cuddles before he went. You can see some updated photos here. Do you come to Canberra much? If I gather the stuff I can give it to you. Alternative, we can drive out there to deliver next time we're out that way. -
Now that Nutmeg and Smudge are adopted out, we're taking a break from fostering, but this morning we went to help liberate this little guy from Gundagai Pound and get him started on his new journey. So cute. But malnourished :'( He looks like a baby Elbie (see below) - so we had to get him out Here he is, broken out of jail and at the Tuckerbox, en route to foster care. Then it was off to a different rural pound to hand him over to his ride to Sydney and into foster care :) At the other pound, we met up with two Kelpies who had just been rescued and were also heading off to get looked at by a vet and then into foster care This is Spin, a one year old Kelpie boy - such a smoocher. A real sweetie.

Some lovely photos of Smudgie from her new owner She is beautiful.

Remember when Nutmeg and Smudge met some little kids. It clearly made a great impression. Ani has mentioned them often and drew a picture, too. Her mum says: "Ani has done many artworks of nutmeg and smudge "so I still remember them" (insert lengthy heartbroken sigh)." So cute :)

We met Andrew this morning when we picked up Ducky - he's lovely. We'll be arranging to have doggy things delivered soon. They seem to have nothing - no anti flea meds, no wormers, no blankets or coats. -
She's very, very cuddly and when she lies on the bed, she'll put her head on your leg or lean against you. When she runs, she looks like a sleek, little, black piglet. It's so cute! I did do some very basic clicker training with her - charged the clicker so she knows that a clicker means a treat. I also used it to start sending her to her crate but didn't get beyond that. Can't wait to see some photos! If you email them to me I can upload them for you - or are they just Stuck Stuck :D
-
Awww that's so cute! How lucky that you're allowed to bring a Smudge to work!! :) Is she allowed to wander or is there are spare crate to contain the naughty little monster? :)
-
On the way to her new home today Are we there yet? It was more than three hours drive so she was a very patient little pup Exploring her new home Two of her new siblings Have a wonderful life, sweet, sweet Smudgie :)

Some photos of Smudge the night before we drove her to her Forever Home. She is such a sweet, cute and smart little pup. Elbie and Mini Elbie :) Smudge and the Gang

I've been asked for advice on rehoming the young male Boxer below. His name is Monty, he is almost one year old. I am posting because I also need advice given that the rescue I'm with only rehomes working dogs. I can't foster or take him in because Boxers aren't my breed and we already have three dogs and they're fine with Boxers but we really need to take a break from fostering for a bit. It is the usual story. Monty is from a BYB. His owner has had no time to train him due to work commitments and barely being at home. As a result, Monty is very bored, destructive and disobedient - barking all day and wrecking the backyard. He also jumps up at a lot and lunges a lot. Really he just sounds like your average, boisterous untrained young dog. I've given some training suggestions and also put the owner in touch with a trainer in Canberra to see if anything can be done before they take the step of rehoming him - but if the main issue is a lack of time, that's not going to be able to be addressed and it might be best to rehome him. Does anyone know of a breed rescue here in Canberra or if any rescue would be willing to take in Monty? I know how to do the posters and listings on places like gumtree and allclassified but I think Monty's chances are likely to be higher through a rescue. Thanks very much in advance.

A friend donated towels and blankets to the puppies in an old washing basket. Smudge loves sleeping in it Alas, so does Dodge :)

Smudge had a nice visit today from chequeredblackdog, Reggie and Sadie :) Smudge photobombing Keep still Smudge! Cuties x 3

I know we'll never know what happened, but I really wish we could. A well-trained Kelpie, presumably from good breeding lines usually would not be prone to this sort of random aggression.
