  3. We saw Smudge at the flyball at the Canberra Show today. She is too young to compete but she was doing a demo She is so speedy! Juniper's family were also there competing at flyball. Juniper was there as a spectator. She's looking very happy and healthy

  5. She's lovely Kavik - ears aren't as huge as Hoover's but they're pretty big. She's very people and dog friendly and getting much better at playing with toys - she already fetches a ball but now she's tugging and playing. Tuxie - that's Ruby, who belongs to lilli_star, another DOLer :) Lots of photographs today. Two days ago, we took Twiggy to the dog park for the first time and she loved it and played with our dogs and also two friendly regulars. She's looking so much healthier Playing with Pusser the crossbreed Hangin' out with Hoover One of the gang
  6. Thinking of you all, Kavik. So sorry for your loss.
  7. Thanks guys! They loved the cake  Dogs are such uncritical recipients of cake :) Here's Hoover with our new foster dog Twiggy
  8. Thanks betsy and mita, you both are so kind. I love fostering. It's a lot of hard work but the dogs are gorgeous and it's always worth it in the end. Twiggy is quite different from our other recent fosters. The others have been timid and we have to lure them to us. Twiggy is not timid but she's almost too clingy and needy and can't bear to be too far away from us. Day #4 and she's starting to play now and also sometimes go into the backyard on her own even if all the human are inside. I've written more detailed blog updates for her (day 3 in care; day 4 in care) but here are some photos.
  9. Twiggy slept well in her soft crate last night. She did not like the wire crate in the kitchen but seems ok about the soft crate and also the wire crate in other rooms of the house. More detailed update is here but here are some photos :) She's 14kg now and doing nicely - much improved from her initial skinniness.
  10. Gawd! :) Twiggy travelled well in the crate when we were transporting her so I'm hoping that she was just bored and pissed off because she was in quarantine all by herself in the laundry. When at our place, when she's crated there will be people and dogs around so she shouldn't be too lonely ... Fingers crossed anyway :D
  11. We stopped at Gundagai to deliver some donations to the pound. Also took a couple of happy snaps This is what Twiggy did to her temp carer's crate while she was in quarantine!! Lucky I like the naughty ones :p
  12. Kelpies rescued :) Little puppy, now named Meg was so happy to be free The 18th month old girl we have named Twiggy. She has put on a little weight since being at the pound but is still very thin Doggies en route
  13. Elbie turned four years old today Hoover haunting Elbie's birthday cake :)
  14. We will be picking up these two lovely Kelpie girls tomorrow from Young Pound. The little 3 month old puppy on the right is going to a carer in Griffith so we will meet up in Wagga for a puppy handover. The poor skinny girl on the left is going to be fostered by us but she's being temp-cared by a fellow carer till her vaccinations kick in. I had her vaccinated while she was still at the pound so that her time in temp care will be shortened. We're actually on a break from fostering but this is our little break from our break. The poor girl was so thin I couldn't bear it. I can't wait to meet our new foster although tomorrow will be a day of LOTS of driving. 2 hours from Canberra to Young, 2 hours from Young to Wagga, then back to Canberra via Gundagai where we're dropping off some donations. We will be soooo tired - but happy :)
  15. Welcome apocalypsepwnie. Vinnie is very cute and I am sure that you'll have lots of fun with him! As you got him from a backyard breeder (not a registered breeder of rescue) and you got him at six weeks instead of 8 weeks so this is likely to attract a lot of negative commentary from some posters - I suggest you don't bother to try to defend yourself and just develop a very thick skin and learn what you can from the forum as there is a great deal of useful information here :) I went through something similar in 2010 as our first pup was free to a good home from a BYB. 4 years on, he's doing well, we have a dog from a registered breeder and also one from a rescue. I've learned a great deal on here as there are some very experienced people but after owning my own dogs for a while, have also learned to identify the useful from the not particularly useful and the people who are here to help and the people who aren't. If you work hard with Vinnie, train him well, socialise him well - you'll be giving him the best possible chance at a good life :) Look forward to seeing his updates.
  16. They do - I am so happy with where all my fosters have ended up. The families all still keep in touch and they all have such wonderful, wonderful lives. I miss them when they first go but it's definitely worth it when I see how well they're all doing :)
  17. Maree - my two parvo puppies didn't have blood in their stool yet either. We got to them early in the vomiting/listlessness/lack of appetite stage and were able to save them even though it was a very strong positive for parvo. Their littermate Narla (with another carer) who received vet care much later ended up dying when she excreted the lining of her stomach :'( We fed them bland at first - boiled chicken and rice but once their appetite returned, gave them normal food. Good luck with him.
  18. I don't think the dog looks stressed at all. I'm sure the owner has a 'serious' voice for getting the dog outside and they're just kidding around with it My dogs certainly know when I'm serious and not serious about a command.
  19. For our skinny dogs we feed them normal kibble but add sardines in olive oil to the mix and some yoghurt as well.
  20. Updates on former fosters :) Frida: Smudge, the little fox
  21. My two parvo puppies cost me $5,000 out of my own pocket for vet costs. Their adoption fee was $350. I personally think that that was a bargain
  22. That's great news about Buffy! :) She looks so comfortable - I'm sure she knows she's safe now. As for me, I received a lovely update from Juniper's new family. Here she is with her sister Jazz She's been enrolled into obedience and will be doing class on Sundays like Dodge so we are likely to see her. I'm so happy for her. She's also our last AWDRI dog as after 1.5 years, I've resigned from there and am now volunteering for a different group. Can't wait to see who my next foster will be! :)
  23. Elbie and his Christmas Bow Tie which matches his pre-existing tuxedo :) Sweet little Hoover Someone told Dodge that there is no Santa
