We use Hills metabolic, wonderful results without fail!

Sounds like not good discharge instructions were given, all this should have been covered. Our cruciate patients walk out fully weight bearing, often less lame than before surgery, particularly the small dogs!!! (Though we do TTA's) If he is not using it you should be doing some Physio to keep the joint/muscles moving, can you call the surgeon today so you can get started asap?
-
Bone levelling surgeries (TPLO, TTA) offer a much quicker and permanent return to normal function. Recommend you have a referral to a specialist surgeon! Good luck and good on you for not leaving him in chronic discomfort ????
-
I know you prefer not hammock style, but I love my 'back seat buddy', have had it 5+ years and seats as good as new underneath! The hammock style gives a much bigger area as it 'covers' the foot wells also! Dogs more secure too????

I know Danielle and can personally recommend her????

Second Rappies suggestion of further testing. A full blood panel, sterile urine collection (cystocentesis- needle straight into bladder) for urinalysis and culture for starters, full abdominal ultrasound and if nothing shows and the issue continues referral to a medicine specialist.

...that's an unusual (?) high / good value for a CKCS?...most of them have some abnormalities regarding blood platelet counts - while over 40% looks good on paper, it would make me suspicious wrt how it was measured if I had a CKCS... http://www.cavalierhealth.org/platelets.htm A PCV has nothing to do with platelets Willem. A little more research (google?) before commenting might be best.

A specialist dermatologist would be my first stop

Ho about a crate next to the bed upstairs, you might hear him wake rather than him pooping without you hearing him? 11 is not old for a JRT, you don't want to sleep downstairs for the next 5 years!!!!!

Vets Report Increase In Disease Amongst Brachycephalic Dogs
Xyz replied to Redsonic's topic in In The News
100% agree with *kirty*. I have been nursing for almost 20 years and almost every day see the suffering of brachy dogs, so often requiring corrective surgery to even function... I always ask the owners where they got their dogs/puppies and are almost always registered breeders, some even ex show and breeding dogs. The poor dogs and the poor owners often having to spend big dollars having corrective surgeries. I just with we could do more for public education so there was less demand for these types. And like someone else said, the cross breeds may be better in one area, but require attention to another... (for example 'aussie' bulldogs are much more over-represented than british bulldogs.) :( -
Why Should We Waste 4 Billion $$ Over The Next 10 Years?
Xyz replied to Willem's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
From AVA website......... An ‘annual health check’ is strongly recommended, even if animals are not to be vaccinated. Non-core vaccines target diseases that are of limited risk in a geographic region or, based on the lifestyle of the pet, help prevent against diseases that are a less severe health risk to infected animals. The decision to use non-core vaccines is made for individual pets based upon consultation between the veterinarian and owner. Many non-core vaccines require annual vaccination. Willem did the reminder specify which vaccination is due? And the need for annual health check?? -
Oh Ruffles thank god she's ok. Clumsy you can live with! Thank god you were in the situation to give her the best care❤️ Hope she comes good soon. One of mine was bitten last week, she was almost the 2 vials and go home. She was totally collapsed and obtunded when my husband got home, 45 minutes to the vet (my work), 2 vials of antivenin and was walking in a few hours. 48 hours on ivf to maintain her kidneys and just like a new dog!
-
Yay Ruffles, thanks for being part of that team! Bet the owners didn't think it was outragoeous when their (obviously) precious pooch went home with them!!
-
Agree with above. Time to see a surgical specialist. Where are you located, you might get some recommendations here.
-
Amazing result! Big kudos to you❤️

Yep, I agree with this. There are a hell of a lot of pet owners out there who just don't look beyond what their vet and maybe their past experiences tell them. Plenty of people don't note subtle changes in their pets' behavior, don't handle them enough all over to note new lumps and bumps, don't take note of the frequency and erm, quality? of their toileting, and are not aware of the symptoms of serious illness. In those cases, if a reminder gets them in to see a vet I think it's a good thing. Same with desexing, if people haven't thought about how their pets' behaviour may change if they are entire, aren't prepared to manage that, haven't planned how to prevent unplanned matings, aren't set up to properly manage a litter, will sell or give unwanted babies to anyone who asks etc then I think early desexing is the lesser evil. For us, who have more knowledge, feel confident in your choice, explain your position and if you don't like your vet's response either agree to disagree or go elsewhere. X 2!!! Good post!!

I heard from a dermatologist 1000mg per 10kg (so 2 x 1500mg tablets). She said the cheap ones are ok! Everyone gets them here, 2 and 4 legged!!
-
I know petplan does, I'll ask the receptionists at work as they deal with the paperwork! Edited- think RSPCA and Woolworths too!
-
Just regarding the upfront payment required by vets, some third party loan options like Vetpay offer interest free periods exactly for this reason. The only out of pocket is a $35 application fee if it is paid in full in (I think) 30 days. Certainly some of the policies offer a 'pre-approval' so you can be guaranteed to be reimbursed. Of course this will not work For an emergency.

See a medicine specialist if she's a tricky one, should be 'relatively ' easy to manage once stable.
-
Definitely not a gimmick (as I receive my cheque for 80% of my $4000 bill last fortnight! Look at the fine print and make up your own mind. I wouldn't have a puppy without insurance, especially until it's about 2 years old
-
Definitely sway her towards a TTA or TPLO surgery over a extrascapular procedure.
-
have you sought referral to a medicine specialist vet?
