  1. I have a 13 yo JRT who has been treated for cushings for around 2.5 years. He improved DRAMATICALLY since diagnosis and treatment started. Went from being cranky/incontinent/poor coat etc to a happy healthy boy. He is on Trilostane, and almost in remission. He has blood tests about every 3-6 months now- more earlier on. I didn't change anything with his diet, he only eats super-premium dry twice daily. I don't find it particularly expensive to treat, anyway his happy ness is worth it!! Your friends dog will need to have blood tests to 'properly' diagnose it then regular bloods/urine until they get the correct dose! Good luck to them-:)
  2. Hi xyz, Alas I wish the Vet test machine could run haematology! We sell and service and repair and interpret the results for all the various idexx machines for 105 Vet clinics, incuding the VetTest. Its an amazing system to be able to get results within 10 mins. The Vet test is a biochemistry analyser as I mentioned above, that is all it can do Most clinics we install a VetLab which= VetTest, haematology, Electrolytes etc etc I would take me forever to go thru each machine so...jump onto the idexx website and you can see the various machines that make up the VetLab system. http://www.idexx.com/view/xhtml/en_us/smallanimal/inhouse/vetlab-in-house-analyzers.jsf you will see the various machines and click on them to see what they analyse Hope that puts is straight :) Anyway, important thing is... how is he going Juice??? keep us in touch.. BoxerJim Sorry for the confusion, but I guess the clinics I know of refer to the the biochem, haemotology and lytes components as part of the vet-test, as they are (or were until the newer models were released!) run 'thru' the vet-test!!!! So glad the pup seems to be on the mend!
  3. BoxerJim, actually the 'vet-test' can run either biochem, or hematology,(seperate machine) and it sounds like the dog just had hematology from the invoice.
  4. I second contemplating amputation-:)! Tamadol is often used in dogs these days with very few side effects.

  13. You are correct, they are NOT a recognized breed. Have seen some pretty impressive looking 'papers' though. Very sad that 'breeders' are advising they have papers...
  14. One of mine has it, nothing works like optimmune. Worth the expense for his comfort!
  15. Firstly dogs aren't children. Yes, people get attached to their dogs and have very strong feelings but at the end of the day, dogs are dogs. Why on earth would you euth a dog without knowing what was wrong with it ? That would be normal for a vet to put a dog on a drip, it's the first thing that's done with an ill animal, as dehydration will certainly kill a dog. It would be unusual for a vet not to ask to take blood samples and send them off. They would certainly have done whatever inhouse testing was av available to them at the time, providing you consented to testing/treatment. Yes, you should have left Percy over night, as you have no way of monitoring him, assessing if his condition has deteriorated, changing fluid bags, have medication on hand or the skills to administer it. Highly bonded or not, there are times when it's necessary to be seperated and dogs cope a lot better than owners think. Mostly it's the owner who are "highly bonded" and have trouble letting go. You asked the vet to euth and euth the vet did. The dog is at peace and any stress would have been mimimal and not prolonged. Your choice but there will be times or accident and illness and even routine health care that will require a vet. Witholding treatment is an offence and you can be prosecuted for it I suggest that you treat your dog more like a dog and think of it less like a child in the interests of your own sanity and the health of your dog. And next time, at least try and establish what's wrong with the dog, before you get trigger happy with the green dream. Fantastic post. +1!
  16. Meaning what? I know there was an attempt to limit what she could do, said to be based on her facilities. I don't know how it all turned out. Jan Spate has had her surgical license suspended by the vet board. Can still consult but not allowed to perform and surgical procedures.
  17. There is a product called 'dimethylphalate' (sp) that I am yet to see a dog not respect as a detterent, but of course there is always a first!! I think it is made by cattlecare, mabye at a stock produce store?
