No... however she is off her food this morning which is very very unusual for Pearl as she is an absolute guts normally. Some very slight discharge a creamy colour - NOT yellow and not smelly. Im hoping the food thing is a sign for tday. It better be or we are off to the vet yet again!!! Any advice? I can feel the pups move. She is very tight and low and bumpy in the lower tummy.

No news yet... Im waitng and praying and hoping for tonight, but who knows!

Nobody is suggesting that she isn't supervised but perhaps that her owner stops hovering anxiously and taking her off to the vet for internals every day. It's enough to prevent labour from happening. A bitch can be left to her own devices and still supervised from non-intrusive distance. Hi Thanks for your assistance, I probably sounded more anxious than I am ...... I have definately not been taking Pearl for internals everyday ( who would and where did I say that?)!!! I have not been intrusive, just cautious and only been ot the vet 3 times in 2 weeks at the vets request. I just put Pearls situation out there to get advice from peopoel who have witneeses many births and thought it would only help. I realise they are all differnt and am not about to intervene when not nessecary. I have had whelpinbg experience before so am not a novice bu t this one seems differnt and I thought I woul dget some support.

Hahaha! I can just see that... and have seen the exact same look myself... I wouldn't leave Pearl alone, but I'd definitely not be hovering over her either - just go about your normal habits and just keep an eye out for anything she does that is out of the ordinary. You will know when she's about to do the actual deed - don't worry about that! Trouble didn't like the whelping box we'd made for her - she decided that the floor in the computer room was where she was having them - so we had to accommodate... we drank half a bottle of Baileys and let her do her thing, only opening the bags for her as the pups arrived. Zeddy decided that next to my bed was where she'd do her thing - she didn't like the whelping box either. Blossom, my Rottie girl, was happy to deliver in her whelping box - thank dog! T. Hi all. Thanks for all the advice,it is helpful and I do really appreciate it. It probably sounds as though I am hovering over Pearl but Im not as I work fultime and have no choice but to go on with normal routine and life. Ihave been calm around Pearl. I guess I am just being cautious as it was an unexpected litter and her first. Also the vet said she is fully dilated and thinks she should have them now! I have only actually been to the vet 3 times in 2 weeks however would not hesitate to do it again, if I thought I needed to. Pearl is a very, very lay back labrador ( perhaps thats the problem...) and nothing phases her. I have had pups before from my other labrador however she was very differnt , it was a huge ltter and a first one and I had to assist with the birth breaking bags, calming. keeping her in the whelping box and so on etc etc. All her pups wre big and healthy and we lost none. There were 11. However her stages of labour were obvious and I knew her exact dates. I am a cautious person and like to ere on the side of safety for my animals sake. I m definatley not leaving her totally alone and when Im not there someone is keeping an eye on her. I will keep you posted, personally I hope she has them this weekend while I am here 24/7 or else my husband will have to stay home for a couple of days next week. I will keep you all posted, so far nothing. But all looks normal at this stage.

Hi there. No news. Nothing happening as yet, no discharge, no contractions. I called the vet yet again and he said give it to tomorrow as her dates are still ok we think going by measurements on the ultrasound. Pearl looks well and is eating. Personally I am anxious now and just want to to begin!!! Thanks for the support. You know what? You need to leave her alone and stop being anxious. She needs to be relaxed and have everything normal. Animals will not labour if they are stressed. If you are stressed then she will be stressed. Put her to bed in a nice dark room and go have a few drinks so her hormones can kick in and let labour happen. Good luck *grin* Sounds like a great idea! I like the few drinks part. Your are right she is not unwell and all appears fine. I think i have read too many posts on problems in labour... I dont think Pearl is stressed she is just enjoying all the cudles and attention . I will have to sleep tonight anyway or I wont be able to assist when they do arrive! Im sure I will hear her if labour begins.

Well its morning agfain and no pups. She looked like she may go last night and was licking and acting anxious. However all calm this morning. I tell you I am getting mighty tired!!! So lets see what today brings for her?

Her name is Pearl and she is gorgeous and very affectionate and gentle, even if she is big and clumsy!

Yes ...the vet staff are having bets as well. It is so exciting and I just hope all are healthy and happy at the end. I think I have dne all I can to ensure this. The parents are healthy and no genetic faults that are known. I will just be happy with healthy happy pups and a healthy happy Mum. I am betting 10 also, but hoping for less as it will be easier on Mum.

I know, but I cant help but call them that, wrong as it may seem.
-
Well I will try to provide the latter... Im soooo tired as I didnt get much sleep last night and worked today and then sneaked out of work for another ultrasound during the day! Tomorrow my husband is on watch as I have to work again! I bet they come tonight as predicted by others, in the early hours. Actually... I wont get any sleep anyway as I will not leave her on her own. The pups should be chocolate and perhaps 1 gold??? The vet said that there are a lot of pups and he couldnt couldnt them but said more than 8 more likely 10!
-
Not yet... but I have been to the vets again today and they say all is ok. Had another ultrasound and an internal and she is dilated and ready however no action as yet ,maybe tonight!
-
I went to the vets today and we had another ultrasound! She is dilated and puppies are fit and well and in position. The vet said tonight. However still no action... So its a wait and see game for tonight and hopefully by tomorrow we have had a safe delivery!

Thanks for writing back. Is morning and no pups, however I cant feel any movement now of the pups... With my other female I felt movemet until near whelping. Hope this is ok. Perhaps they are getting ready to enter the world? What do yout hink? This morning she has some slight watery discharge not a lot and is licking a lot. Im in contact wiht the vet and will call him again this morning but I dont want to be hasty as her dates may be a little out and I dont wat to intervene and cause more bother for her. However I dont want anything to go wrong either... Nerveous times ahead! I appreciate your opinions. I just felt some movement of pups ( phew!).

Thanks for your assistance. She does feel as if she may have pups lining up, her shape has changed and she is more uncomfortable. I have everything ready, old towels, heat pad etc etc. However I have to work tomorrow and my daughter is going to watch her for me so I hope it is tonight or tomorrow night! My husband may have to stay home tomorrow as well I think...

Hi I didnt intend on mating her this time. I was going to wait until her next heat. I separated her from our male Lab and all appeared ok. However I think I was too late!!! She does not have very obvious heats as do other females. Sooo... I would say they mated late feb /very early march. However saw no sign of this. I stuffed up basically! However the father is the one she was to be mated with next heat anyway. Therefore I only discovered she was pregnant about 2 weeks ago when she began putting on weight. Thus I had her ultrasounded and discovered she is havng 7-10 puppies. As I write this she is licking her feet and tearing up towels in her whelping box. No panting but lots of licking and scratching around.

Hi again Her temp was averaging 38.3 up until 2 days ago . So it has dropped a degree. Do you think it will drop more before whelpng?
-
Thanks for that. I was just a bit concerned as my dates are out and I want to make sure she is ok as it is her first litter.
-
My labrador is due to whelp. Her temp is 37.5 average over last 2 days. She has had an ultrasound and due dates are a bit ify as she came into heat earler than I thought. Is she close to whelping? She is large, no milk in teats and puppy movement. Her shape has changed in last 24 hours. No discharge other than a very slight clear mucus ( nothing to be concerned about). The vet says tonight but she is not panting or showing any other signs like I would expect. It is her first litter. Any good advise out ther. I am experienced at whelping but she is not having normal signs that I am used to. She is eating and calm and active.
