    Dobermann

Thanks for the advice yeah I have seen a few of Bisart's posts and have been in contact with them but just wanted to see what people's experiences have been. I have my opinion of them which is good but I have not actually met them or been out to thier property and lots of opinions is alway better than one :)

    Dobermann

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything they know about about either Bisart Dobermans or Yiyanda Doberman breeders? I am looking into getting a puppy and would like to know as much as possible. Thanks
  3. Hey guys, Not sure if you guys know about the off leash park called Kingsford Smith Ulm Reserve and Boeing Reserve they join together, there is a place to park the car on Boeing Rd. There are huge fields for the dogs to run around. I have seen a few there but not heaps. There is also a nice track that runs along that river that provides an eenjoyable walk. For those that are local we should organise a time to head down there so out dogs can have a run around together. I also went to Fawkner Vet Clinic on Sydney Road and asked for Dr Tony, he seemed nice and what he gave me has cleared up Raiden's rash so I'm happy. Thanks again for all your help and if you ever see a guy with a shaven head and tattooes walking a Sheltie around Glenroy or nearby it is probably me so stop me and say Hello! I would love to meet some people in the area with dogs so Raiden can socialise
  4. Hey guys went to Fairbairn park yesterday it was so awesome! I love how big it is. Not sure if I was on the right side as I woudl not find the Anglers tavern but there were quite a few dogs about. I was near the golf course, Tennis courts and the soccer fields, I basically came straigh down Newsom Rd. It was awesome that they had the flood lights on because that allowed Raiden and I to stay there a bit longer when it was getting dark. Thanks so much for recommending that park :D
  5. Thank you both Pretty Miss Emma & Lindainfa for the info you have given me I will definitley be tring to visit all those parks and seeing which ones Raiden likes he is my Sheltie and is now 1 year old. Lindainfa yeah I am up for meeting up sometime to let the dogs play, Raiden is very friendly and loves having new friends! I have added you as a friend so we can get in touch and tee something up. I will also be looking into the montly meeting for DOL members as that would be really cool and I'm sure Raiden would absolutely love it! Pretty Miss Emma, thanks for you info on the vets I will most likely try the one in Essendon. I will defintley be trying the one on Gervase Ave as soon as the weather clears up as I live on Finchley Ave so close by. I will also be private messaging you shortly to find out which vets to stay away from. If you are open to meeting up and letting the dogs play together at the park let me know. I am finding it hard to find Raiden some doggy friends in this area and at my old place he had a regulatr group so I'm sure he is missing them Thanks again for all your help it is really apprecaited
  6. Hi guys, I was hoping that perhaps a few of you may have some knowledge of and experience with a reputable vet that is located in or close to Glenroy in VIC. I previously lived on St Kilda Rd and was taking my Sheltie to Port Philip Animal Hospital in Middle Park. That is now a bit to far to travel so would prefer to find a local vet that has a good reputation and one that people have good experiences with. I would also appreciate any information about dog parks that are located in or close to Glenroy. I would prefer a park that had a few people and dogs there so Raiden can have some dog to dog socialisation time. He does enjoy playing with other dogs and he will miss Fawkner Park so I really would like to find one that is close by so he can make some new friends! Any help is appreciated and I welcome you to share you experiences with any vets or dog parks that are local to Glenroy... Thanks Again.

    Bones For Puppy

Hi Carmel! I hope you had a lovely Christmas. I will try the chicken wings then and see how he goes. Thanks for the heads up about the lamb flaps Raiden is doing really well he is a very quiet and well mannered dog it is great as we are very similar hahaha except he is much cuter lol! He constantly gets compliments about how beautiful he is and how he has such a nice temperament. Is that Tatum as your avatar? If so she is looking absolutely beautiful. I will send you an email with a picture of him so you can see how the little man is growing

    Bones For Puppy

I was wondering what I should try if he does try to eat the bones whole? I can imagine my boy would try that. I've tried chicken wings before but he was not that successful with it, although it was when he was younger...so I will try that again. Thanks for your response I appreciate the advice
  10. Hello All, I was just wondering what bones I would ask for at a butcher for a 9 month old Sheltie puppy? Any advice would be appreciated particularly if you have a sheltie. Thanks so much :D
  11. hi guys, I appreciate all the info I had a look at NDTF it seems pretty good. I'll have to have a good read but they idea of learning different methods appeals though. I really like the gentle method that Kintala teach as well. I guess I will have to read some more and then decide. Thanks Again for all your help
  12. Hi Guys, I was hoping to draw on the wealth of experience and knowledge within this online community. I am looking to get involved in dog training and am currently looking at courses I could complete in order to do so. The trainer at the place I go now for my dog's training has recommended Kintala in Heidelberg. Which to me seems reasonably good and they focus on positive training methods which is something I appreciate. I live in VIC and work full time so please keep this in mind when offering suggestions. I could mayeb get a week or so off to complete a course full time if that was necessary but woudl much prefer a course that I could do in the evening and or weekends. I do not always have access to a car either so it woudl help if there was a train station withn a few km of the facility where the course is run. I appreciate any suggestions and experiences with training courses that people are willing to share. Thank you all.
  13. Hey guys, Thanks for the info. I have Sheltie at the moment who is 6 months and a little bit down teh track I woudl like to get a Doberman as well. I have worked hard to socialise my Sheltie and make sure he sees me as the pack leader. When I first got him he was a little bit apprehensive around other dogs and in teh first class of puppy school he stayed near my feet but after that he was the one starting all the play with the other dogs. Now he is good he will say hello to other dogs and when an older dog growls or something to tell him they have had enough he will roll on his stomach so he seems good with other dogs. I was just worried about a Doberman being a bit rough with him but I imagine as long as I impose rules from when the Dobe is young I woudl not have too much trouble...I know Raiden my Sheltie would love to have another doggy friend. Is anyone aware of a good Doberman breeder in VIC?
  14. Hi I was wondering if anyone has any experiences of having a Sheltie and a Doberman together?
  15. That is awesome! Do you have any pics of your sheltie puppy? hahah sorry just realised you have already shown me a pic in the other thread Lol!! Silly me!
  16. Your girl Georgia looks beautiful! I Love shelties they are so adorable and generally well behaved. When I come home to my little man Raiden he can always make me smile! I live close to the city in VIC on St Kilda Road, how about yourself? Has your Girl's ears started to stick up my boy's has and they show no sign of dropping either the breeder said I would need to glue them down if I wanted them to stay curled over...so I decided to let his ears do as they please... I took raiden to puppy school when I first got him and now he is older is in a genreal obedience class except he gets excited by all the other dogs and just wants to play May I ask you how much you exercise your Sheltie? Do you have any other dogs? Sorry to ask so many questions but it is nice to meet another Sheltie owner beside the breeder
  17. Okay i found a couple of photos here at work and resized them...they are old though when he was about 3 months he is now 5 months
  18. Hi guys, Thanks for all teh help I guess I will just have to grin and bear it huh...I am just a bit unsure how to go about this period whether I should keep asking or once I have said sit once leave it at that and if he does not do it then correct him? How long should I give him the opportunity to do it on his own?? I am thanksful that he is still listening when we are outside and I ask him to sit at the kerb before we cross the road although it does take a correction of pulling up on the lead a tiny bit...but once we are practicing his training inside before he would wait in front of me or follow me around whereas now he will see treats in my hand know we are training and then run away! Michelleva I would love to show you some pics but I am at work at the moment so do not have them on this computer also I am unsure how to make them small enough to put on here...is there a photo album option or something? I would love to see your sheltie as well... Also I would love to hear more about your experience with your pup...like was she easy to train at the begining and picking up on things really fast? And then all of sudden it just stopped? Like i noticed mine was great up until I took him to some training classes where they had me use the word "Yes" in the same way a clicker is used...so initially I was just saying "yes" and giving him food and then after about two days when I went to do it again everytime I said "yes" and showed him teh food he would run away...now it is kinda like that with any command when we are practicing... he is stil generally pretty good like he will wait at the door when I say wait until I say lets go...and he does not pull on the lead too much... I would really like to see some photos of your girl so if you know how we can exchange some let me know
  19. Hi Guys, Once again I am hoping to draw on the groups experience to provide me some insight into why my once well trained dog has started to develop selective hearing... My sheltie puppy was really good at his commands and recently he is now 5 months he has started to not respond or take a while to respond whereas previously he was quick and eager to do what was asked. He knows the commands I am giving him and can hear them and see the signal fine he is just not doing the action required anymore. Sometimes he will still obey but he is not as quick as before it is like he is thing about whether he should listen or not... any ideas how to get him back to his old self??

    Puppy Walking

Hi Sandra Yeah when we are on grass I tend not to pay too much attention to the time, we normally do that twice a week and he has a play with the other dogs at the park so when we get home he goes to sleep...as he usually does a lot of running around and actually does get tired and that is usually when we leave. The breeder said initialy just short walks for like 10 mins but now that he is older and not scared of the world around him but rather inquisitive I do not think a 10 min walk is long enough. The reason I am asking is I wanted to take him today for a longer walk like 40mins which would be on concrete as I need to return some library books and would rather take him with me than leave him at home but I do not want to cause issues down the line for him. Oh he also gets to play at home such as a bit of fetch and he does short training sessions a few times a day. Thanks again for all the help

    Puppy Walking

Hi everyone, I was just hoping to get some of your opinions regarding how long one should walk a 5 month old puppy? My boy does not tire out yet I am worried if we go ofr too long I may be putting stress on his developing joints and do not want to cause my little man any issues in the future. At the moment I am taking him for around 30mins in the evening and a short 10-15 min or less stroll in the morning. Thanking you in advance
  23. Hi, Yes I am using one currently for a Sheltie as I am on the 21st floor in an apartment, it is pretty good and he became toilet trained very quickly, at night he sleeps in his crate in my bedroom and I really only had to wake up a couple of times in the night for the first couple of weeks and then he was able to sleep through the night without going. The only issue I have really is that he is now not so keen to do his business outside and will often hold on until we get back upstairs...also it does need to be cleaned and sanitised at least once a week to stop the smell becoming a horrible nuisance...He learned where he was allowed to do his business quickly and now has no accidents (touch wood) If you have any specific questions flick me a msg and I will try to answer as best I can.
  24. Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the dog training course at Planet K9 in North Melbourne? Specifically the basic manners course? I am planing to take my 4 & 1/2 month puppy Raiden there he is pretty good with his training but I would like some more structured training for him. Please let me know your experiences and thoughts of Planet K9 or if any of you have had good experience with other trainers which are not too far out of the CBD I woud love to hear about them too! Thanks for any help...
