  1. Yes, we were approached not long ago. Just waiting on the individualized paperwork to come through. A very positive step!
  2. As puppies I have stricter rules and they had to sleep in their crate until I felt they were ready for more choices. Now, they have beds in our bedroom, beds in the loungeroom and there own couch (not too mention a couple of beds outside) and they pretty much sleep wherever they want which is normally in our room with us. My big boy does have a habit of sneaking up on the bed and sleeping with us, which can be awkward at times as he is a big dane so it is like three people in the bed!! But I love it and always make sure he has enough room :)
  3. I got my rescue dane when she was 18 months old. I insured her immediately with Prosure and advised them that I did not have her history. They were fine with that, no issues at all.
  4. K9 Pro is my pick - I will never go to another trainer. Steve is awesome and certainly knows his stuff.
  5. Raw turkey should be fine, it is actually my preference over chicken. I have a local butcher who charges $1.99 kilo for turkey wings and thighs, cheap as chips and one wing does my 70kg dane for brekkie!!!
  6. Dane Rescue and Rehoming (GDRR) NSW will take any dane as long as their rehomeable and they have space (like any rescue), regardless of papers. They will sometimes also take dane x's depending on the situation and the availability of foster carers. Clearly the group in question just didn't want the groups help for whatever reason, which is sad for the dog in question. GDRR have many people on their wait list, just waiting for the right dane to come along so they can give them a forever home...
  7. Agree!! If you take on a dog you need to put the work in to making it rehomeable, if it turns out as not being rehomeable then you need to be able ti PTS. We all do our best but sometimes dogs are better off being put out of their own misery - keeping them around is purely for our own justification.
  8. well, my male Great Dane (18 months) is desexed and gets, um, excited, when I pat him!!!! Normal- I hope LOL
  9. Yes, little Layla was one in a million - I actually said at the time that if we weren't already over full we would have kept her. I think of her all the time and hope she is doing great! She was an absolute sweetheart.
  10. Two out of my three had kennel cough in the last few weeks - they got it bad! Was like sitting up with kids through the night, was just terrible. All are vaccinated - the youngest two got it, the eldest didn't. Required Ab's and cough syrup and of course 14 days confinement which drove me and them mad!! There are many strains and the vaccinations do not cover them all...
  11. Looks are only part of the equation - I am very level headed, can be lazy, like my comforts, but can be inquisitive and sookish. Equals = GREAT DANE Then again, I can be very energetic, childish and boisterish Equals = BOXER
  12. I manage the Blacktown Pound thread along with a number of other very dedicated volunteer staff. Every time I have to put up a kill list I cry.Now I know from experience that most will not be PTS, that Blacktown do their very best to not have to PTS a dog (or cat), but knowing it is a possibility is very upsetting when you follow these dogs day in and day out. If a dogs can not be successfully rehomed then PTS is the kindest option for them. Rescue is not easy.
  13. And people say Great Danes are stupid....pfffttt. Shame on you
  14. I help to update the Blacktown thread - at present we are without a login so will probably update using our personal sign ons until we can sort something out. It takes a lot of work and dedication to volunteer to things like this - and it can be emotionally draining, time consuming and can hinder your own personal relationships. Having said that though, it is my way of helping our poor souls who need it most - I used to foster care but with three dogs, and one who is a little temperamental, I can no longer foster but I do whatever I can to help out. It is not easy. I take criticism against volunteers quite personally. Thanks to everyone for their support and acknowledgement - it is nice to know what volunteers do is appreciated and noticed.
  15. So pleased he is safe with you K9Angel. I help update the Blacktown List thread and when I did it today and saw he was safe with you, I was thrilled! He looks like a gorgeous boy.
