  1. Absolutely tragic. That poor woman. On Friday, a post-mortem examination said Ms Knowles died from shock caused by blood haemorrhage as a result of the attack.
  2. Exactly this. A lot of people like to say "I'm doing it for the dogs" but, really, are they? Are they doing it for this particular dog? Because they're most likely not doing it for any future dogs that come through those doors, by essentially supporting and condoning appalling practices. Just like with people who "rescue" from pet shops because they were "doing it for the dog," they're becoming a part of their operation, and enabling them to continue. Like PS said, change doesn't just happen. And giving an organisation like the LDH money, in any capacity, is not "doing it for the dogs."
  3. Reminds me of PETA's 'crate' misinformation. Anything I said then was deleted.
  4. Love what you did there. Pretend to act like the bigger person and then leave it with a personal jibe.
  5. This won't be you, then? (I know that these actually come in handy for people with dogs that can't walk much, etc. Still... hilarious).
  6. There is just no room for error or risk this is true! I do agree with that. But what I was talking about is people just carrying their dogs around in parks, on the streets, etc. Most of these people have anxieties about bigger dogs to begin with, and when they become anxious, they transfer it onto their little dogs. It can happen with larger dog owners too - not picking them up - but becoming tense while holding the leash if another dog approaches etc.
  7. Are there extra points for melodrama? Do you lose points for making incorrect assumptions? As an owner of three small dogs and two bull breeds, I find I'm pretty balanced with my opinions about both. But none of that matters when you can victimise yourself instead of actually taking a step back to realise almost every single post you make on this forum is about demonising larger breeds. Of course what you say is going to be scrutinised when your behaviour has a very nasty, very malicious pattern towards certain dogs. Horse is doing fine in his new home, by the way, even if he did look like that dog you once knew that was aggressive... that you just couldn't help but point out on a thread trying to find him suitable rescue options.
  8. That's a different scenario than I was implying, which I thought was quite obvious. The dog being picked up preemptively can make it a target/cause anxieties - not a dog being picked up after the fact.
  9. It's the small dogs being picked up that tend to cause a lot of trouble - from owners making them a target to actually causing them to have anxieties about other dogs. But then, I'm just one of the usual band of idiots that come on and have the audacity to look at things objectively, instead of grabbing my pitchfork.
  10. It really is one of the most heartbreaking things to go through, especially once you've eliminated everything else. It's not something I would wish on anyone but there are absolutely people out there who are willing to take those cases on. My main concern for my dog has always been his quality of life but, like I said before, he's a very happy boy whose only issue is, given the chance, he will hurt himself for no apparent reason. So the only way to fix that, for us, is to ensure he never gets that chance. We've had varying degrees of success with DAP, thundershirts, herbal remedies, etc. For him, none seemed to really help him improve, but a combination of a few things have helped us keep him safe from himself. To be honest, we're not entirely sure if anything has helped, we just know that he's now much better than he used to be, and it's something we can keep on top of, without his quality of life degrading. EDIT: I'm probably making this sound worse for you by telling you about my dog! Not every dog will be as 'allergic to life' (as we dubbed him... his name is Scrooge after all) so what didn't work for us may work for you/Daisy.
  11. One of my own dogs, rescued about 5 years ago now, is very similar. He would self harm quite a lot, to the point he would draw blood and rip out chunks of fur, etc. It actually started with his paws, similar to the first video. We took him to many vets and dermatologists to try and find the reason, spending thousands of dollars, but to no avail. It's been inferred that his problems could very well be psychological and that, even though he's no longer itchy and his skin is no longer inflamed (when he was younger, it was very much so, even with a lot of treatments). The best we can hope for is to just manage his condition, which actually seems like a lot of micro-managing at times. If I'm gone for long periods of times, he needs a shirt/jacket on so that if he scratches, it doesn't actually scratch his skin, and an elizabethan collar to ensure he doesn't mutilate himself. Other than that, he's a very happy dog. And after five years, it's all become second nature to us, and he knows he absolutely cannot scratch or bite himself when either of us are home. As an owner, it's horrible to watch, to see a dog that needs to do this to themselves, and I would love to hear any input also.
  12. The kick of it is, Norman is one of the most vindictive, malicious people out there, whose own ramblings about other groups are filled with so much venom. Her constant push for rescue to be all about statistics is both horrifying and predictable. I'd be surprised if, after the latest scandal, her 16d isn't taken away.
  13. And still would have had no choice or say in the matter. That doesn't make them monsters, to me. That makes them victims of monsters.
  14. I agree about being furious with the owners. Being furious with the dogs and labelling them 'vile monsters' does nothing and only promotes the idea that these dogs allowed themselves to be this way when, in fact, the owner has allowed them to be this way.
  15. I don't think it has anything to do with being politically correct. I think it has everything to do with accurately assessing a situation/behaviour, without using sensational terms that only serve to create more hysteria.
  16. Comparing dogs to Humans rarely ever provides a logical conclusion.
  17. I think you missed the point. People were saying that Dogmad's sensationalised 'vile monsters' comment was ridiculous because the dogs are dogs, not evil masterminds out to get everything and everyone. Nobody is saying the behaviour is even remotely acceptable.
  18. Ruthless Photos are fundraising for us (Fetching Dogs) with two calendars here: link. :)
  19. And once again, you have missed the point entirely, as you do so well. You don't even need to own a crossbreed dog of a 'Pit Bull Type' to know that the killing of innocent dogs, based on a legislation proven ineffective, is wrong. People can come to that conclusion by just being a rational, compassionate person.
  20. They won't revert to the old site. And there's no need for them too, either. They just need to make this one readable, functional, and manageable. Considering the HTML and CSS is already there, it's only a matter of tweaking some of the coding to get it to work, changing the style (because it's awful), and finding a colour scheme that works. God knows why this wasn't released as a Beta alongside the original design to ensure all bugs were weeded out.
  21. And this is where you're going wrong. People aren't advocating the breeding of crossbreed dogs. People are saying that just because certain dogs happen to be a crossbreed, it doesn't mean it should be killed.
  22. I'm a little confused about your posts, and some of the others in the thread, and how they're coming across. It seems like all you're interested in is condemning certain dogs and the owners/rescues who choose to save and fight for their right to live. As opposed to really caring about the best possible bite prevention and pet management methods, that are already proven more effective than our current Breed Specific Legislation in keeping a community safe. No offense is intended - it's just how I'm reading it.
  23. I didn't like any of the enquiries from the Trading Post. And it's half the reason I had to take my number off PetRescue. The other half owing to people from Facebook groups trawling through the Rescue Directory, calling at stupid o'clock, asking us to take dogs from pounds.
  24. I don't think anyone's game enough to bet against you there.
