Add to that the fact that some dogs need to be breed assessed or assisted with professional training, some are lucky to break anywhere near even at that price range.

Their reasoning can be countered with the fact that when a dog is adopted from a Rescue, it generally frees that group up to save another life from the pound. So adopting directly from the pound doesn't necessarily hold any other benefit.

It's scary, isn't it? -
Hawkesbury Urgent Pound Listings

So you're basically just here to berate volunteers, blame others for your own mistake, declare rescue on DOL obsolete, and call everyone a backstabbing bitch. You must be a riot at social gatherings. -
Hawkesbury Urgent Pound Listings

I always find it productive to insult and publicly blame volunteers because I can't pick up the phone and call the pound to ensure details are corect or meet a dog I'm rescuing beforehand. -

I've only ever heard negative opinions on him. -

What a strange thread for a pure breed dog community.

We have a non-refundable fee of $150 for this reason - to safeguard us if something happened. While you always hope nothing will, cos you've done all the the checks, accidents happen. Even though it's "non-refundable," the only time we don't refund the full amount is if, like you said, we need to cover costs due to the adopter's actions.

You don't need to log into DOL to see everything here. A lot of things on Facebook can only be seen when you are signed up with them. But I think you missed what I was saying, which is, Facebook is a tool, like DOL, like an email list, like a mobile. Why is Hawkesbury seemingly limiting their resources by only using one of these tools and why are rescuers, who have been using DOL to save dogs for years, suddenly now not being given the information regarding these dogs on here?

There's a reason for that. I also find it disgraceful that once again you have posted under "Blacktown List" and lumped everyone in on your support of that group. Nobody should have to look on Facebook and only Facebook to find dogs they could possibly save. I find this whole takeover absolutely disgusting and damaging to every dog in that pound. Nobody should have to be subjected to guilt trips or dogs with mustaches, just to rescue. Nobody should ever need to go through a third party to rescue a dog. Shameful.

One group seems to have a hold on the pound and nobody else can get close. Shame really, cos there's an actual group of honest people who have already been doing it for some time.

Brilliant photos. We're lucky people like you get the time to go out there and snap some shots of the bubbas in need. Also love "Wolf Photography" shots, with the bigger dogs on the grass. They all mean heaps to us who want to see the whole dog, its physical health, as well as cute puppy dog eyes. I know that AK does those photos as well as her own rescue and volunteer work at several places, and I'll never understand how she finds the time to do it all - especially the temp notes on top. Some absolutely amazing people at Renbury right now.

Got word earlier this evening that one our foster carers had their home broken into. As well as a stolen child's bike, one of our pups in foster care was also taken from their home. Eskimo is an eight week old Staffy x. He was taken, while his sister was left behind. He's tan with a black muzzle. He was taken from Lethbridge Park (NSW) area at around 8am this morning. If people could please share this anywhere and everywhere. We're desperate to have him back with us. We're offering a substantial reward and no questions asked - we don't care how he comes back, just so long as he does. Contact details are: [email protected] (m) 0424743410 Cheers.

I think people have misunderstood the thread. It's about groups taking on dogs they know will be costly (and constantly doing it without funds). Not ones that they don't know will be costly until they have them in care.

Are Some Things Better Left To The Pros?
Plan B replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Seems some people don't realise what "Open Group" means. Nor that when you post on Facebook, you make all your comments and names available. Which is exactly what seems to have been the problem with that dog being stolen - someone knowing every detail of the transport. -

Edit: Seems photos of public posts causes arms flailing. -
If I've read the original post correctly, I think the point that's being made is - public donations are never a given. They are supposed to supplement rescue, not fund it (not including the legitimate fundraising events, etc that are important, I think it's moreso about the constant asking for your money). And for those who cannot afford to cover the vetwork for certain dogs, is it responsible for them to pull the dogs from the pound, and solely rely on public donations? If they can't afford to care for the dog and donations end up not coming in, what happens then?
-
Definitely not my point of view. Every dog is worth a chance. We just save what we can, when we can.

I always find this a bit of a weird thing to say. Why do "littles" etc count as easy to rehome? We primarily rehome Staffies, Amstaffs, Rotties, and all their crosses etc, and have found them much easier to rehome than the little dogs we've had in care. I think one person's "easy rehome" is another person's "harder rehome." Anyway, totally agree with the original post. We are just not set up to take on the hard cases. I hope one day we are because it's horrible to bypass them in the pound but it just wouldn't be responsible for us to take those cases on at the moment.

They certainly won't be winning Rescuer of the Year, considering that one dog they've transported has ended up with three legs instead of four, and the latest has been stolen. You have to assume this would've happened sooner or later, when they are publicly disclosing all transport details. Poor dogs. -

When you're dealing with this kind of mentality, you have to just assume they're catering to their audience. -
I swear it's not photoshopped.
