  1. An actual Staffy (SBT) or the Staffy everyone labels any Staffy-ish dog of unknown breed(s)? I don't see why not. I find the problems that arise are due to rescues not having temp tested individual dogs, not matching them properly to foster homes and resident dogs, and carers not taking the proper precautions. A Staffy and a Chihuahua can absolutely be the perfect companions. It all comes down to the individual dogs and their owners. I know that probably looks like nitpicking but those sorts of generalisations really irk me. And having a Staffy girl myself, who dotes on the foster puppies and looks after all foster dogs, big or small, it's something I just hate being thrown around.
  2. Neighbours were interviewed fully today and have reported that the man had this dog in his care for just a few days and every day he was beating the dog with a hose pipe. The dog eventually snapped. As would I.
  3. I think raising awareness of these bad and dangerous practices is the responsible thing for people to do. In the past year, more and more people have spoken out against them from personal experiences and far too often it's brushed aside as the usual 'rescue bitching.' This is not the case with this group. When a group such as this is putting people and dogs in danger, concerns should be voiced, and questions should be asked.
  4. No worries, I got through it. Wish I hadn't cos it's just awful. So sad.
  5. This was on Facebook but know a few don't use it so figured I'd post it here:
  6. Really? I cannot even read what you wrote for fear of my eyes burning.
  7. Everything should be disclosed. Who is this group? I know you probably can't 'name names' but any subtle hints? I always feel people should know about the practices of other groups, as it helps us all determine whether or not to work with or promote them, but I understand the reason why we can't come out and name them.
  8. Maybe because there are 'rescues' out there telling them they don't have to.
  9. ALL pets deserve the chance to find their owners. They also deserve to have Rescues bring them into care that do not participate in illegal activities. I never said that at all. You're clutching at straws here.
  10. Is this an attempt to justify breaking the law and not giving owners the chance to find their lost/stolen pets?
  11. Don't be so sure. She already stated elsewhere she would continue to do so because she believes it's in the best interests of the animals.
  12. Acting responsibly and abiding by the law does not make anyone happy about animals being impounded and that's a very immature attitude to take. People need to work within the limits of the law.
  13. Your friend can call the Pope if she likes but it's always much simpler to read the legislation. In this case, the Companion Animals Act.
  14. It is illegal for unauthorised individuals to hold onto pets. The law states they need to be impounded. And yes, even the ones that are not microchipped. It is illegal for people to keep or rehome these animals because they do not legally own them.
  15. Strays need to be impounded to give their families the best chance of finding them. Microchipped or not.
  16. I find it annoying that we need to search so much for this stuff. I had a vet, who knew legally the dog we handed to her had to go the Council, desperately trying to give us the dog back because they didn't want to keep it overnight. They didn't know we were involved in Rescue - we could've been anyone. EDIT: Given the OP, I guess even when you're in Rescue, you can still be anyone.
  17. Page 7: http://www.lawsociety.com.au/idc/groups/public/documents/internetyounglawyers/420246.pdf Legislative text: Link.
  18. It's not legislative text (still trying to find that) but did find this: http://boardtalk.vpb.nsw.gov.au/page/Stray_Dogs_and_Cats They say 'by law,' but it's hard tracking down laws that pertain to our companion animals.
  19. I saw this ad a few months ago on GT. I've actually forgotten who posted it. Not because I don't care but because they're not the only one with this mentality. There are A LOT of 'rescues' with this mentality, that they are above the law. I have to assume that some, at least, don't realise they are ruining the animals' chances of their families finding them.
  20. My own: Scrooge, Biscuit, Whiskey, and Sushi. Some of my present and former rescues: Prometheus, Mazeltov, Spud, Wasabi, Quidditch, Eskimo, Safari, Badger, Emo, Puck, Gucci, DaVinci, Noodle.
  21. Thought I'd already left some feedback but apparently not. I switched to Black Hawk a few months ago and have had my dogs on it. All of them are doing brilliantly on it and, my dog who has always had a skin condition/allergies, is actually regrowing hair that wasn't growing back before. Because of that, I switched all the rescue dogs on BH too, and constantly get told how great they are all looking. We had a Husky pup and had him on the puppy formula - at his vet visit, the vet was amazed by his condition, the perfect weight, the good hair, etc, and they'll be looking into stocking BH because of that. Very, very happy with it. It's the first kibble I've been able to give every single dog, so has cut a lot of hassle out at feeding time!
  22. I'd say the opposite. With an adult dog, you know more about what you're getting. Behaviour, temperament, health. With a puppy, you don't know any of these things.
  23. Oh, I knew you meant the basics. It's the hidden costs the general public just don't take into account and I personally do not find $400-450 expensive for a dog, when all vetwork is done and then some.
