Bob-a-lot Versus Kong Wobbler
quickbrownfox replied to quickbrownfox's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow! It's bigger than I expected. Much more quiet than the Buster Cube (seriously, the BC sounds like the house is being demolished.) Looks like the hole is one size? (BC can adjust the size of the hole to make getting treats out more challenging.) I've had a look on Amazon and they have them for AUD $9, but with shipping it costs $23 total (it does have tracking however.) Vet-n-Pet Direct has them for $29.95, which is cheaper than dStore, PetHealth and eBay (which are closer to $40.) I have worked with Australia Post before and I know how frantic, frustrating and S L O W the Christmas mail is, so if I wanted to get one I wouldn't buy overseas now, despite being cheaper. Had I known earlier I would had got one :D efs -
I must be pretty damn lucky because I've not had any trouble with Stanley in the car. I drive a Commodore VZ ute and Stanley loves to lie down in the footwell to be near the air con. When we do long trips, he occaisonally gets up on the passenger seat and stick his head out the window to catch the breeze (don't worry I don't have the window all the way down so he can't fall out.) I will have to teach him to use the back of the ute soon, which I'm still trying to figure out what would be the best way to do it. I have a wire crate that I can use for now. I thought about a ute lead but there isn't any hooks on the back that I can use, except on the sides of the tray.

If you can't return it, I can offer you a swap for a 68x51x47 carrier? It will come in handy for vet visits, plus the top half can be taken off. I will post some pics if you're interested?

I agree with minxy What type of crate do you have? If it's a wire one, you might be able to buy a divider to make his crate space smaller. Btw eBay has lots of cheap crates and carriers for your size, PM me if you want some seller recommendations. I have read somewhere that if you buy a crate too big for a puppy it will be harder to housetrain.

OK don't laugh, but I want to buy my dog a Christmas present this year. He has recently started to enjoy using his Buster Cube, however he can be a bit too enthusiatic playing with it (i.e smacking it around furniture and bouncing it off walls) while watching the telly. So I figured I should try another dispenser toy that is a bit quieter. I have read reviews online that the Bob-A-Lot and KONG Wobblers are pretty good. Does anyone have any personal experience with these toys? Pros/cons? Thanks

Thank you all for the advice Stanley has now lost all of his baby teeth and his gums are not so sensitive now. (Gosh they grow up so quick! ) Edit: Thanks Erinys! One could mistake him for a teddy bear sometimes lol

Thanks Bundy's Mum; I have put some carrots in the freezer now so he can try some tomorrow. Poor Max Compared to Max, Stanley isn't suffering that much. There is not much blood when he loses a tooth. The only destructive thing he has done so far is rip up his woolly blanket, but otherwise he is fine. He enjoys chomping on ice blocks to relieve his teething (he has been through 3 trays today.) Other than that, he is still his happy self. I have toys that can be frozen but they defrost too quick. Maybe I should make a gigantic ice block in an ice cream container with kibble and apples inside. Thanks Max#1

Thanks for the reassurance, persephone ;) Stanley loves bones. My freezer is full of them. I give him one everyday after breakfast. Chicken frames, lamb, beef tail, brisket, marrow... generally anything I can find, he's not fussy. Also, he has lots of soft toys he can chew on too

Hello current (and past) puppy owners, Stanley lost his first baby tooth last week. About 5 have fallen out now. What can I do to make this phase a bit more comfortable for him? When a tooth fell out today, I gave him ice blocks to chew on (which he enjoyed), but I wonder if I can do anything more. Thanks

Comon Things People Dont Realise About Your Breed

Could be some truth to that, as Stanley can't keep his beard dry whenever he goes for a drink of water. -
Comon Things People Dont Realise About Your Breed

I haven't heard any misconceptions about my dog, because many people don't know what an Airedale is. -
Fantastic thread, I thought about starting one but you bet me to the punch, Aussielover! Stanley at 8 weeks old: 20 weeks old (now): Edit: Oops forgot to remove attachments

Why Can't People Just Follow The Rules!
quickbrownfox replied to quickbrownfox's topic in General Dog Discussion
Strength in numbers tollersowned! :D The one thing that bothers me is when people say to me after the dogs meet "Oh don't worry, it's OK! He/she's friendly!!" Hate to tell you but your dog isn't going to like every dog it meets... -
Dear stupid bitch dog owner who was at the lake near Fitzy's in South Lake today, If you happen to read this, I'd just like to let you know I don't appreciate having my puppy rushed at by 2 dogs OFF LEAD in a ON LEAD park. Despite getting in front of my dog and screaming at your dogs to go away, you couldn't recall your dogs back. You should work on that. The next time you see someone trying to distance away from you, take a hint: they might NOT want to interact with your dogs and just want to have a nice, quiet walk after a long day. Much love, quickbrownfox BTW anyone else who had a bad walk recently while trying to do the right thing, let out your frustration here.

I forgot about this thread! Thanks everyone :D , I hand stripped my Airedale puppy last week with no problems. I can already see the difference in his coat (starting to look/feel wiry.)

Approx Cost Of Removing A Male Dogs Wholeness
quickbrownfox replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Great news!! ;) Stanley is doing fantastic thanks He is starting to look like a leggy adolescent! :D I'm actually not in the city at the moment - I'm doing contract work in the country. I have thought about going to DOL social events to keep Stanley socialised now that his puppy class has finished, but it's just an issue with time for me. (But we will get there! Promise!!) -

Good luck belgian.blue Hope Badger returns home safely and has a speedy recovery. Also, good idea asking for advice from your breeder. I think I will have to do this too with my pup when the time comes. -
One thing that has really helped me with my 5 month old puppy Stanley, is to treat/praise him whenever he's in a relaxed state (eg. lying on his bed while I do chores around the house.) I have been doing this since the day he came home.

On second thoughts, I agree with you. However, these breeds do have low grooming requirements which is a plus for the family.

Training Reference Books

Youtube.com is a great source that has lots of training videos that your nephew can watch. Here is a search I did to teach fetch. Just click on one to watch. -
Does anyone know?

Interesting viewpoints here. I think I will have to do a bit more research... I did try the speak with Stanley this morning. He is starting to catch on (as he did it a few times), but I think it will take a lot more work. The little man in question (he has been visiting the countryside for a month and loving it): Playing with his GSD friend, Rukee (who I have to mention has been fantastic with Stanley. Very patient!!)

Ok, so teaching speak would be useless for me then (except as a trick.) Will try the quiet command first. This article was very helpful for me. I should cut some slack for Stanley as he's a terrier and can't expect him to be quiet all the time. I'm about to do a 3 hour drive today; Stanley will be coming with me (he's great in the car, does power naps throughout the journey) so I'll post photos tonight Koalathebear.
