Fireworks are too far away from us. Sounds like a faint bang. Took Stanley outside - isn't fussed. Went back to napping in front of my bed :D Neighbourhood is relatively quiet, so I can go to bed now

Thanks Skruffy n Flea

Another 2 hours here. Hoping all goes well, as Stanley hasn't heard fireworks before.

That's what I thought too. :D Poor dog probably thought the tray was too hot

I've not yet been in a situation where I'm in potential danger with my dog. My 7 month old Airedale Stanley is friendly to strangers, so I don't expect him to 'protect' me. However just recently his territorial instinct has started to kick in. One night I took Stanley out to toilet in the backyard while the OH was spraying fly spray around the side of the house. When OH was walking towards me in the darkness, Stanley ran towards him, gave a warning bark, stopped then hackled with a mean growl. He wouldn't back off until OH walked into the light and I said it's OK. Stanley also barks and growls at strange noises at night. Most times it's nothing but I'm thankful he does it anyway, because I'm home alone most of the time and doG knows what can happen.

Dog Grooming In Perth
quickbrownfox replied to quickbrownfox's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh awesome! Aww bugger I don't think I can wait that long. I wanted Stanley to be done now so he doesn't get too hot in the summer Is anyone familiar with this groomer? LINK I'm a little weary as her gallery shows mostly small dogs. Maybe I should just PM bedazzledx2 and make the trip to Midland -
Dog Grooming In Perth
quickbrownfox replied to quickbrownfox's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Midland is too far from where I live (South Lake) but will consider them if I can't find someone closer to me. Looking to get clipped (I have a clip chart here from my breeder) as he is a pet. He needs a tidy-up too. I'm willing to pay more if they can do a good job. However I have to wait after Christmas to book him in, hence why I'm looking now -
Does anyone in Perth know a good dog groomer who is experienced with terriers?

Dog Vommitted Yellow Thick Liquid
quickbrownfox replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had this problem recently too. What solved it was to give my dog a snack before bedtime. -
My local Woollies (Gateway Shopping Center in Success, for those in Perth) sell lamb offcuts, lamb forequarter bones, lamb shanks, chicken frames, chicken necks, beef tail, brisket bones and marrow bones. I go nuts there when I have to refill the freezer. My local butcher (South Lakes Shopping Center) is OK - they sell mixed bags of bones (which most are rib bones, good to chew on) for $2 a bag. A large marrow bone is $4 each and they are happy to cut through the marrow and in quarters. Don't buy their small bones though, the butcher won't cut and Stanley gets bored with them. I would love to know where in Perth I can buy roo tail and other delicacies. :D

I give my Airedale what his breeder recommended. He has homemade BARF patties (breeder's recipe), mashed sweet potato & pumpkin, salmon/tuna/sardines, eggs, yoghurt, green veggies like silverbeet, spinach, cabbage etc. His diet consists 60% of bones (why? I have no idea but he gets a variety, and he loves them.) He has Supercoat kibble as a snack before bedtime. Oh and once a fortnight I give him a teaspoon of cod liver oil too.

Can You Give An 8 Week Old Puppy Chicken Necks?
quickbrownfox replied to rbrad25's topic in Puppy Chat
My breeder let me give my dog chicken necks at 8 weeks. The puppy is too young to have it whole, so bash it with a meat mallet before giving it to her. -

How Much For Vaccination For Puppy In Perth?
quickbrownfox replied to Kashing's topic in General Dog Discussion
Stanley was vaccinated at Riseley Vet Centre in Applecross. His vaccinations were $80 each. He was done at 10 weeks and 15 weeks. C3 and Kennel Cough were done both times. South St Vets in O'Connor quoted me $120 for one and only vaccination at 10 weeks, no more until it's yearly boosters. I decided against it because I preferred getting 3 vaccinations over 2 while the pup is young. -
If you throw the toy too far, he won't be interested. I taught my dog to fetch by: 1) Teasing him with the toy first 2) Throw the toy a short distance to keep him interested 3) If he goes to retrieve, I call him back to me 4) If he brings the toy back and let go of it when I ask him to, he gets a yummy treat

Sounds like your girl is experiencing her second fear period. If you are not already familiar with this guide, this thread is a good read LINK It's a general guide to your puppy's development. As for advice, unfortunately I can't help sorry, as I have not experienced this yet (in 2 months time I will, though.) But good luck to you and your pup

Not to go off topic, but it is generally recommended that puppies are fed 3 times a day. Back on topic: That sounds fine. IMO, I would wait to buy an enclosure until it's an adult. You also can buy wire built playpens online with a removable shade cover on top. LINK Is there a reason why you can't have the puppy inside? Just curious.

I would had done the same if I were in his shoes. I have heard lots of stories from posties I used to work with about dog attacks. It is very frustrating. I wonder...Would it be against rules to put a collection card in their letterbox, instead of going to the door?

Don't feel obligated to help socialise the Shih Tzu. It's not your problem. This is a legit excuse, as so much can go wrong if the owner doesn't know what's happening with their dog.

Doesn't he?? however, he's not totally lazy with his food, he does play with his other treat dispenser toy.

Bob-a-lot Versus Kong Wobbler
quickbrownfox replied to quickbrownfox's topic in General Dog Discussion
Kong Wobbler is (width and height, respectively) 7 x 10.5 inches, so it's taller and wider than the Dog Pyramid (4 x 6.5 inches) -
Yes, I have tried to put food in mine (delicious food too like PB, dog mince, treats, some kibble too as Stanley doesn't have it often) but he's just not interested. Which is weird because he's a food driven dog.

Hot Weather And Keeping Dogs Outside
quickbrownfox replied to RoxyNHemi's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dog has access to both inside and outside. However, I can't let him outside too much since the patio is being renovated by my landlady at the moment. When he does go outside in the heat, he has shade, a big clam pool with sand, and a big water container kept in shade. I managed to get him let me wash him outside yesterday. But for now he is enjoying being inside taking naps on the tiles. -
My dog is exactly the same. He's completely disinterested with his Kong, yet he LOVES squeaky toys. His favourite one is a pig, and it's the cheapest I have brought for him so far.
