  1. In border terriers, there is a kennel called Glenboyd and a kennel called Glenbogle. One is in NSW and one in Vic, but I still have many people talk to me confused between these two breeders. If I complained now, does that mean that they'd have change all their paperwork? I think not.
  2. Hi Trisven. I made a very extensive contract for an import. If you PM me your email address, I'll send you a copy.
  3. I'd also be inclined to seek financial compensation for this. All the things you mentioned are costly How very frustrating for you. I hope you can find a pleasant resolution.
  4. A recent picture for your interest. You can see his chin area is going quite bald now, and there are a number of these 'pimples' on the underside of his muzzle, too. This picture shows the scab-like bumps on his leg. These kind of remind me of the callouses old dogs get where they lay?? There is also an arrow pointing to the balding on his right foot. EDIT: Er, please excuse the unsightly act that his littermate is performing...
  5. Fit FAK - The nearest uni school is 1.5 hours away. There are a few good vets up that way, but I'm not really prepared to have my pups away from milkbar for 3+ hours at this stage. (The mum is not a 'great' mum and would not feed them in the car or out of home, no doubts about it.) Persp - yes, he does have lumps around his eyes. His right eye has had a couple of lumps for a while. His left eye got two lumps that came and then went. LizT - neither puppy should be at risk of either condition (mange or strangles). The vet was concerned about the eye infection that both Napoleon and his sister had spreading to my healthy border terrier pup, but it didn't happen. (Really, my border terrier puppy is very fat, robust, and tank-like. Only just learning to walk and get her lard arse off the ground!) If he does have strangles, I'd rather put him on steroids now and have him isolated, and ready to get out and about at 6-8 weeks than having him quarantined during his critical socialisation period. Considering the questionable temperament of these puppies' mother, I am very concerned about compromising the socialisation of the two puppies. ETA: I have booked Napoleon into a skin specialist on Wednesday. This is their website: http://www.vetreferrals.com.au/derm.html
  6. The clinic I use has quite a few vets. With this puppy, I have had consults with vet X and vet Y, but vet Y took puppy to vet Z today for a second opinion. Vet Z --HAS-- treated a pup for strangles before - so yes, this clinic has seen it. Vet Z said it's either demodex or juvenile pyoderma (puppy strangles). Vet Y, who I had today, did not obviously check this puppy's lymph nodes. She looked at the lesions on his face, check his temperature, listened with stethoscope. I couldn't help but think that temperature, pulse, and breathing are not influenced by strangles (except in late stages). There are a few vets in my area, but they're all very 'pet' dog and cat vets. I don't really trust them with young puppy care. I can certainly try a couple of different vets, but I have even less faith that they'll know puppy strangles. I am more than happy for it to be NOT puppy strangles, but I'd like a diagnosis rather than just maybes and fluff. EDIT: Just rang a different vet and the vet said (through the vet nurse) the puppy would need a course of antibiotics because it's bacterial. Um, perhaps I won't take puppy there.
  7. I took him to a different vet (at the same clinic) today. They still think is demadex and gave me antibacterial wipes and oral antibiotics for secondary infections. The vet I had consulted with the other vet there at the time, who said demadex or juvenile pyoderma (which is puppy strangles). However, they don't want to prescribe perdnisone (treatment for puppy strangles) to a puppy so young. I'm at a loss. I really don't think his little lumps are bacterial infections.
  8. I am very concerned about this puppy. He is now lethargic. Picture below:
  9. I can not find enlarged lymph nodes on this puppy, but I've never had to find them before! I put Advocate on him last night, to see what happens. I left a message at the vet re: puppy strangles, to see if she thinks it is a conceivable. She's back in tomorrow. In the mean time, he has got worse with more pimple-like lesions appearing on his muzzle.
  10. He is not on antibiotics. His temperature was taken last week and it was not elevated. He does not seem to be unhappy at all. Yes, frightening. Thanks, I think so too. I'll dose with Advocate tomorrow. Sway, this is really interesting and seems like it has a lot of correlations. I will get in touch with my vet tomorrow and suggest this.
  11. **EDIT* Post 28: Conclusion to this ordeal after consultation with a skin specialist.** I have a litter of three puppies. My bitch, Clover, had one puppy, and the other two are foster Chihuahua X? Mini Foxie X? babies. I am having issues with one foster puppy going bald. Background: The mother of these puppies came into care emaciated, and gave birth to 7 puppies. The mother, in one way or another, killed 4 puppies, and 3 came to me. They were 9 days when they came into my care, and I lost one puppy within a few hours. The puppies were emaciated, dehydrated, and listless when they arrived. However, they doubled their weight within 5 days and they were looking good. But, both puppies developed an eye infection. Off to the vet, got given Conoptal. Eyes resolved in a week. Current problem: The boy puppy, who we have been calling 'Napoleon', went bald around the eyes. At the time, I thought his eyes were irritated by the drops or by the infection. However, Wednesday, this baldness started developing on his temples, and then on his front legs. The baldness does not seem irritated - it is not red, it's not flakey, he is not itching, it's just there. The baldness on his legs is a bit scabby. Vet visit: I took the puppies to the vet today to try to assess the baldness problem. Napoleon didn't glow under light, so that suggests he doesn't have ringworm (apparently, only 85% of ring worm glows under lights, so that still may be the case). I'm also quite susceptible to ring worm, and I don't have any ring worm leisions on myself. They did a skin scraping, and there were no mites seen under the microscope. The vet didn't know what to do. She gave me three options: 1) Doing a fungal screen, that would take 10 days to come back. (That would identify if he has ringworm.) 2) Using a malaseb bath. 3) Applying Advocate to retard any mite population growth (it won't kill all mites, but may help him over come the mites if that's the problem). Plan so far: So, I bought the Advocate but haven't applied it yet. I might do it tomorrow, when they are less stressed after their vet visit. I don't really know what to do. DOL BRAINTRUST! Do you have any ideas what this might be? Pictures: This is the 7th of November: This is today, 4 days later:
  12. Yes, that would be fine. Occasional phone call. If they spoke to me occasionally at shows, perhaps. These people show that they are interested in the breed, have considered it for a long time, and are probably well reasoned and sincere in their enquiry. It also suggests that we get along, which is always good.
  13. Yes, I would contact a breeder now. People who remain in contact with me for a year or more go straight to the top of my puppy lists.
  14. No adverse experiences. I occasionally feed pet mince, but have found a couple of local pet shops that don't use preservatives, anyway. I'm sure I've fed foods with preservatives before.
  15. I don't think it's law, I think it's just a 'suggestion' that signs should not indicate that the dog is dangerous. E.g. "Beware of Dog" indicates knowledge that the dog is dangerous (or else why would you say 'beware'?) Signs like, "I live here" (with a picture of a dog) and "please shut the gate" are more appropriate and less vulnerable to litigation. ... So the story goes.
  16. I worked in boarding kennels, and german shepherds were amongst the worst shedders. If you don't like hair, I can't think of much worse than a GSD.
  17. I was thinking when driving the other day what a good name "Caddy" is - and so, obviously, I voted Caddy!
  18. Clover favourites her baby, but the other two are outwardly discriminated against. She is being good seeing she doesn't like puppies a great deal to start off with. The fake grass I have all cut up ready to use in their puppy pen when they get bigger - BUT Myrtle the singleton was getting so fat that she was adopting a 'swimmer' position, so I used the grass so she could have better grip. Clover is also less inclined to dig up the grass than she is to dig up the bedding. I spot clean the grass whenever I see a poo or something on it, but it only lasts a couple of days before I put it through the washing machine. So - the grass is supposed to be a toilet, but right now it's just being used as convenient bedding. ETA: Oh, and what breed? We're not sure. Mum looks like some kind of mini foxie with longer hair?? Who knows who dad is.
  19. They normally stay here with a house sitter, except one who normally goes to my parents' house.
  20. Clover has a foster litter under her guidance too. These are rescue crossbreeds. Her foster litter were born on the 21st of October, and there was actually 7. Mum killed, in some way or another, the first 4. We had 3 come to us but one died within the first few hours. The other two, a boy and a girl, are doing well.
  21. Having acquired a dog with problems, my advice would be to see a vet on the day of bringing the puppy home, or the next day. That way, if anything is amiss, you can return the animal immediately without having to deal with emotional attachment to the animal (though perhaps emotional attachment to the idea of the puppy is harder to manage).
  22. Thank-you. I've got to weigh mine but then I'll be good to go on the 7th of November.
  23. Sorry for thread highjack of sorts, but: After my bitch had copious amounts of milk on birthing her singleton puppy, we now have some puppies in need of a surrogate (same age) coming today. And, in the last two days, Clover's milk supply has diminished significantly - as luck would have it! If Clover does have difficulty feeding the new surrogate puppies, would adding Fenugreek to her meals help? Is there any other suggestions?
