  1. Lol now that's keen. He's a funny lil dog sometimes. Once he understands and has confidence you can't stop him lol. ( im guessing thats pretty common lol) The frame was low but not flat so I may see if I can start like that and progress. He's gained a HUGE Amt of confidence in general foundation stuff since I posted the original post so here's hoping he continues in leaps and bounds he's used to being on a few different materials now so hopefully that may also help him. Thanks
  2. Thanks guys. Unfortunately no stairs where I live but he's getting pretty confident on the wobble board which may help his confidence with uneven sensations under his feet ?? He's 12 months old now so I'm looking foward to the fun that's heading our way once classes start up again
  3. I've made all mine. Ive made them free standing so I can shift them easily with 2x2 training. I got PVC pipe and the end caps that go with them. I then got long screws that were able to be secured with a little bolt, drilled a hole into the end cap, pushed the screw in, secured it with the bolt and then put the end cap on the PVC pipe. I stick the screw straight into the soil and they are fabulous so far. They still flex if need be and can be moved simply. Once I've got my weaves trained I'll make a proper set I'll try and load a pic for you. They were sooooo easy to make and really cheap. I've been using them daily for my weave training and I'm almost at the stage of straightening up my first set of 4 :-D it's so rewarding watching them finally click to what it's all about.
  4. Ouch. Poor darling. Hard to know with grass seeds as they can burrow pretty deep etc. I'm always inclined to get things thoroughly checked and, especially being inside the mouth it could turn very painful Just because the abscess burst it unfortunately doesnt mean the seed is out. Hope ya pups ok.
  5. Lol this topic is pure gold. I'm sooooo glad to hear that pathetic exhibitors exist in the canine world. After 20 years of showing horses at ag shows and royals I thought I'd heard enough whinging drama queens........ But grass reservations???? That's just awesome. Even horse people don't try that one lol. Oh please.... Pretty please. Let me rock up with my big arse gazebo and set it up in said grassy position. I DARE them to try that crapola on me. I think THEY would end up moving once I'd finished my rant. Bahahaha. Have fun and if needed don't be afraid to stand your ground. Despite what these people think, they don't own s***t :-D
  6. I have a fear of bull mastifs around my dog since my guy got attacked by one but I know it's completely irrational. I had to make a conscious effort not to project my worry to my dog when passing or playing with similar breeds. He's since played happily with other mastif dogs with no trouble whatsoever. Each dog is individual. All dogs.... Every single one has the potential to attack. Socialization and training by responsible owners is what makes the difference. I know many staffies and all of them would rather lick you to death than lay a tooth near you or another dog. They all have dedicated owners Talk with the new neighbors. They may well be great owners and, if not then you may look at more secure, solid fencing to give you piece of mind :D
  7. Tentative yes for Riley and me. Depends if I get recalled to work but put me down as a maybe Would love to meet the people n pups in person.
  8. I may actually have the day off work on the 2nd of January. I'd love to bring Riley Might see you guys there :D
  9. My boys got a D in one ear and an M in the other. He was desexed and microchipped at the same time. I had the option of having a tattoo or not with my vet so must not be mandatory here.
  10. ah i must have missed those..thanks. ill go check it out now
  11. Hiya, Im wanting to get the digital version of the magazine and just wanted to see what others thought of it. Is the digital version a good way to buy it? How does it work? do you get it emailed to you or is it through the clean run site? thanks in advance. Ive just got my computer up and running after it pooped itself so im thinking of just ordering one of the back issues and seeing how it works for starters.
  12. Nawwww I just wanna give those cute lol chops a big ol kiss. He's a cutie all the best for his debut. I'd be a useless judge. I'd just look at those cute lil puppy faces and skin rolls and give 1st place to everyone. So adorable I can smell the puppy breath from here :p
  13. Glad this thread could be revived to help someone else. Riley never had any issue from his bone crunching experience which was good. I was worried for days though and he hasn't had a shank since. Silly I know but seeing the razor sharp splintered end I would never forgive myself if the worst happened. Hopefully your dog will pass the bone easily you must be a poo expert by now lol.
  14. In pack behaviours young pups play and mouth one another. During that phase of development they learn not to bite hard because their siblings tell them with a big yelp when it's too hard. I found that everytime I felt my pups teeth on my skin I'd give a high pitch 'ouch' ( like I had been burnt ) , pull my hand away and turn my back on my pup. After a few seconds I would return to playing with him and repeat if it happened again. Worked with my guy like a dream. You control the type of play you want to see from your pup.
  15. Can u ring a few places and ask them directly? Then it comes straight from the people that do it.
  16. I've just finished watching the 6 discs. Heaps for me to work on. It's reassuring to know that I have subconsciously been training almost all of disc 1&2 so that's a plus Makes it tricky training on my own but once classes re commence I'll be all good lol. Ps: cute puppy
  17. The problem with this sort of micro managing is that in reality it's never going to work. Legislation already exists but it isn't policed or complied with. They are focusing on the issue of the pet when the real problem is the issue of irresponsible, useless owners. There will always be backyard breeders and normal folk who want to breed and sell their puppies cos they can. Unless these types of people are educated or fined more than they get from a litter they will continue doing it. And sadly people will continue buying the puppies. Petshops should be targetted however. They provide an easy outlet for the sale of byb pups. Targetting them would have a significant impact I would think. It won't fix the problem but it makes the quest for a quick buck and easy sale of the puppies much more difficult and time consuming on their part.
  18. How frustrating. Sure those things could happen but not as often as they make owners think. That sounds like if u feed 1 bone your dog will die. Totally irresponsible thing to write really. There is definately a responsible way to feed bones which have very little risk. My boy regularly gets bones and his teeth and skin are impeccable. Even his vet commented on his beautiful teeth on our last visit. He sure doesn't have them from kibble lol. Shame on purina.
  19. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can use as a tug toy with my guy. He's really beginning to tug and enjoy it but I've found that he only properly tugs with flat materials. flat pieces of polar fleece or fake sheepskin last for a session and end up in pieces. The polar fleece thick tug toys or rope toys are no good as he doesn't seem to beable to bite down hard enough on them ( he is a good soft mouthed gun dog ) there are so many tugs on the market that I'm utterly confused and don't want to waste my money. Would proper sheepskin or other real furs be suitable?
  20. Aww looks like a great day was had by all. What awesome pics Wish I hadn't been working. Would have loved to come meet u all. Maybe next year
  21. I have a GSP ( gun dog working dog ) and yes I get up early before work to excercise him. My back yard is a decent size so he has room for zoomies etc while I'm at work too. He isn't confined to a run or similar. He has free run of my yard. I personally feel that it's my responsibility to meet his excercise and mental stimulation needs so I get up early. He is crated inside at night and sleeps like an angel until I get him up for his off leash run.
  22. I'm a shift worker so my dog is used to having a varied routine. I try to keep most things consistant, it's just the times that things get done that changes. I usually take him for a run before work and leave him outside with treat balls and other toys to help entertain him while I'm at work and he's home alone. I then do my Training in the evenings plus a small walk around the block if I think he needs it. As others said my free time is pretty much devoted to my dog and I wouldn't have it any other way.
  23. Thanks guys. Yeah I always aim at just one progression every session or several sessions. He still has his tail up and wagging so I don't think he's completely distraught. Just something I'll keep an eye on with him.
  24. It's funny that this post has come up as I am currently in the exact same position as the OP. I've been looking at lots of vehicles. The x trails are lovely. I also found the older sportage had a huge boot area ( and is true 4wd with low range gears too which many of the newer small suv cars aren't) I'd also check out great wall. Their 4wd is awesome value and from perving on my friends it has a very spacious interiour. It leaves others for dead price wise and has everything, including a 4 star safety rating, that the others have plus more as standard. Jeeps are great if u want offroad ability but are fuel guzzlers in the city. Also can be expensive to repair too. The grand vitara is an awesome car to drive but lacks the huge interiour of the x trail I think. I'll be personally looking at great wall. I'd love the new x trail but it's out of my budget Keep in mind, as I said that most of the small SUVs aren't a true 4wd ( by that i mean having low range gears etc) Might not be relevent but who knows, u might decide to take it out bush one day and climb a tricky track
