Southern suburbs preferred. 24 hour old staffy baby whose mother has completely refused to feed her or have anything to do with her, pup has been taken into foster care and is bottle feeding well but a lactating surrogate mum would be best if we can find one. Please PM me or comment here and I'll put you in touch!

I think an Italian Greyhound would do well in your circumstances :). They can be tricky to toilet train but are great indoor dogs.. I have managed to litter train mine much the same way you would a cat Lol. They are by no means silent dogs but I find they dont tend to bark unless there's any great reason too and I've never come across one that barks incessantly.. they do require a little bit of exercise but would be fine with one short walk a day and anything else as a bonus :). Even a GAP greyhound might be the way to go for you! Dont be fooled by their size.. they are couch potatoes :p Like any dog they enjoy and need a walk but they will definitely forgive you if you have to skip it one day

Eh Ate Some Cooked Chicken Bones...
Skitch replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
:) Fingers crossed for an incident free night! I've known many, many dogs to eat various cooked bones over the years accidentally.. and only a couple of those have had serious problems. As mentioned above, it's not a death sentence.. definitely worth being cautious over when it happens and doing your best to never let it happen but I'm glad you didn't get too upset at her as it would have acheived nothing when she had scoffed it before you could get to her! Just unfortunate really.. I was kicking myself the two times my boy ate a chicken carcass, too.. bloody dogs. who would have 'em :p -
Eh Ate Some Cooked Chicken Bones...
Skitch replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't suggest making her vomit. I'd suggest feeding her soft foods.. this has happened twice with my dog and both times I have fed him bread soaked in olive oil and he passed it all fine :) If bread doesn't get on with your dog (not uncommon!) buy some of the cheap nasty supermarket soft dog roll and give it a good dousing of olive oil -
I wanted to post this too but wasn't quite ballsy enough! It's so amazing to see a dog so well trained, I enjoy his videos a lot.. but wow do I cringe when he jumps from big heights and lands heavily on concrete.

When I work nightshift, I stay up all night the night before and sleep all of the next day in preparation. On these nights my dog Boomer (2 year old Italian Greyhound) will go to bed with my partner as per usual at about 11pm or midnight. He will then sleep with me right through until 3 - 4pm the next day with no loo break! I don't know how the hell he does it! We always leave the door open for him incase he does need to go out.. but he never does! Just stays in bed until I get up and then saunters outside and does an absolute marathon wee which practically floods our tiny little yard.. Lol.

Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
Skitch replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've got an Italian Greyhound. Mostly people just accuse me of underfeeding him lol.. he's anything but! Unfortunately mine is also a spectacularly crap example of the breed temperament wise because he's very shy.. so I spent a lot of time explaining to people that they're not all this shy! Mine is shy as as a direct result of poor puppy socialization -
An Opinion Article On Dogs From Adelaide Advertiser
Skitch replied to sausy.dog's topic in In The News
Yeah she has some good points.. but the whole article is very condescending. She quite obviously doesn't have the love of a dog in her life.. her loss really :p. -
Yikes! If I were you I would not be allowing her on my bed again, under any circumstances. I'm no expert but I feel that defecating on a bed is a pretty big sign of disrespect from a dog and a way for them to push the boundaries. Have you considered crate training for overnight? You could even put the crate in your room so that she doesn't feel so separated from you.

Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this on the news tonight.. what a horrid thing to happen. Poor little dog

What Would Your Friends And Family Do With Your Dogs?
Skitch replied to Alyosha's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm lucky to come from an entire family of dog lovers. If I suddenly dropped dead there would be a fight over who would get to adopt my dog.. I know for sure that my family wouldn't let him go outside of our family and he would be very well cared for, whoever ended up with him :). -
I've used them without problem too :)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say.. staffy X Shitzus! -
I have an Italian Greyhound who is very prone to diet born skin issues and he has not had a problem at all with Black Hawk :). I really do think it's a superior food to other Australian made, preservative free dry food on the market and am so pleased that it is readily available in SA now!

Lol, yep! see above :p

I have had good experiences with these guys: http://www.pamperedpetsresort.com.au/ . My Italian Greyhound didn't want to come home when we last boarded him there! I liked them because they are very transparent about their operations, more than willing to show me around the entire place and talk about everything in depth :) A friend of mine who I studied veterinary nursing with works at Golden Grove boarding kennels. I haven't boarded there personally but I have heard good things from a family member who boarded their border collies there http://www.goldengroveboardingkennels.com/index.htm

I feed out of the bob a lot using just my dogs regular kibble but also use cat kibble when Im wanting to keep him quiet for a bit because that gets him extra excited ;). Sometimes I use broken up liver too

I could be wrong.. but I'm so sure I saw somewhere that this is actually gelati and not chicken. EDIT: Snopes says I'm wrong.. so glad I don't eat chicken nuggets anyway! http://www.snopes.com/food/prepare/msm.asp

Would You Feed Treats A Random Dog At The Dog Park?
Skitch replied to ❤LovesPoodles❤'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I always take treats to the dog park with me for my dog (to praise for good recall, etc). Sometimes another dog might notice that I have treats but I've never been harassed.. I have given other dogs treats at the park but never without asking the owner of the dog first. -
Hmm I have to disagree based on my own experience.. I didn't find bully sticks to help keep my dogs teeth clean at all. I'm very sure that they would be a good preventative measure but I think that's once a substantial amount of plaque is there they couldn't help much. Definitely worth a shot though - if you feel more comfortable with them over bones and there is not much tartar I'd be trying them first and seeing if it makes a difference.. I have an Italian Greyhound and a few months ago we were looking like we were going to have him in for his first dental at just over two years old! Not good. His teeth were very discolored (particularly the back ones) and there was lots of manky hard tartar.. yuck. On the advice of a friend I started giving him a bone a big bone (generally lamb neck bones but sometimes roo tail bones too) every other day and switched his diet completely to raw. I really wish I'd taken before and after photos because the difference now is flipping amazing.. he has a near perfect mouth with only very slight discoloration of his back most teeth. (edited to fix spelling and my misuse of the word plaque! lol)
