  1. When I first saw the ad a few days back I thought , Yeah sure!... you're not going to get a purebred perfectly groomed dog from the RSPCA. I have seen very, very few that even look purebred. I don't like the ad. It feels too deceiving.
  2. I can’t speak for other Mini Schnauzers as I have only had one but mine is very lively and ready. He also prefers me to other members of the family (when I’m in sight) otherwise he is happy to sit by the kids or play with them. Yes! And he follows me around everywhere too.
  3. What an absolutely gorgeous and caring idea I would be over the moon with that even a lovely card Same here. I got a card from the breeders printed with a very early puppy photo of the litter for my dog's first Christmas and I adored it!!! Hi Baileys mum - I agree, it is such an lovely gesture and I would also be over the moon about it.
  4. I didn't think I should vote yet because I have only recently started looking. I will update how it goes, hopfully I will find an excellent breeder too. I really want to find the right one. Edited to add, so far only contacted four breeders.
  5. I have to agree the professional groomer that use to groom/clip my boy did such a wonderful job, he always looked ready for a show but both me and my boy enjoy the grooming time together. So me grooming him is here to stay.
  6. I used to pay $62 for a Mini Schnuazer clip 9 years ago This also included pick up and delivery. I bought Oster clippers and did a one day course to learn to groom and clip him myself. Though he looks far from having professional clip. It looks good enough to me
  7. Digger or a rank: Sergeant, Corporal, Major, Private, What is oh's battalion and what is on their crest? What does he do? What are the specific names of the weapons he uses? But I like Digger. I like those names (in bold).
  8. I don't mean to be insensitive to you but she is not your dog and her owner may be looking for her. Bullterr(ific) posted earlier in this thread that he has advised the RSPCA and the Ranger, and both have advised him to hold the dog. As they are aware of what and where the dog is, they can pass on Bullterr(ific)s details to anyone who enquires, so the dog is out of the pound, but the correct authorities are aware there is a lost dog. Bull Terr(ific)- It was so late at night when I wrote the above post I obviously didn't read your posts properly. I've also had a dog missing/stolen since Feb last year and sometimes I still wonder why they just don't give her back. Unless she is dead, I don't know. I agree doggy is better off out of the pound.
  9. I don't mean to be insensitive to you but she is not your dog and her owner may be looking for her.
  10. My neighbour calls his dog a British staffordshire terrier. I'm thinking, why doesn't he just call it English staffordshire ?
  11. Jakemon- What a gorgeous baby!! Just curious did it take you long to find breeder/pup?
  12. I found taking the pup out every 1/2 hour worked really well....never had the oppertunity to potty in the wrong place and after meals, water and after waking. I know it's very time-consuming but it really worked well to successfully house/toilet train. Also in between toilet breaks you have to watch her like a hawk and I wouldn't put newspaper or pads in the pen during the day this might encourage her to wee on it. I have heard crate training works really well. I think I will crate train my next dog. Good luck.
  13. Your puppy looks gorgeous. I'm not familiar with this breed but is it a Clumber Spaniel ?
  14. The short time I've been here, I have learnt alot and still learning. I have often cracked up laughing from the quick witted humor too. Also been touched, almost in tears from some of the stories here. This site is very denifical edited to add that DOL has helped me become more aware of my dogs needs
  15. x2 I just sent it to the RSPCA, including address and details. They had a cruelty complaint form but I didn't have an option to attach the photo so I send it as an email to attach the photo. Poor doggy
  16. Walked past a pet shop today and like always kids want to go in to have a look. I could not believe what I was looking at, I could not even believe that they would even dare sell a dog like this but I guess they don't care what they sell. I took this picture because I was in shock and horrified and for a while I thought maybe I can do something about this? The Pup's rear back bone was sticking out a bit like a Jersy cow and the belly appeared bloated. Yes I do educate my children about animals sold in pet shops and where most come from. Just below was an empty glass cabinet with a sign saying Breed: Jug (I thought, whats is that?) Price: $899. I don't know if this sign was ment for that pup. So sad
  17. Our Mini Schnauzer was desexed at six months. He is nine years old now. He never humped things or people. He squats to pee and only marks new places (when taken for a walk).
  18. Maybe look into an Australian Terrier or Border Terrier.
  19. I had a Shih Tzu many year ago. They are great little dogs in so many ways. Only with mine toilet training was a nightmare, never got it right. Good luck.
  20. I've heard of dogs that whine like crazy when you leave them out for a few minuets. I've also seen dogs that don't like staying in for long and wait at the door to be let out. I think it's whatever they have become accustomed to. I've see people treat their own children in ways that are not to my liking but all families are different. Whats seen as appropriate for one family is not for another.
  21. I'd think you would need someone to stay with you to help you out, even if it short visits each day. My mother broke her leg a few months ago and found the crutches useless getting around her flat. She used an office chair (with wheels) she was stuck in her apartment for six weeks as it was so difficult to go down the stairs without any assistance. For showering she would have to rap the broken leg with plastic bags and masking tape or not have a shower for a few days until someone could be there just encase she fell.
  22. I don't think this means she will hate cats forever. She may only be testing them or she may just want them to play. It may just take her some time to realise that the cats don't care for romping/play. I would still distract her away from the cats so she doesn't get use to annoying or chasing them for fun. If the other dog does the chasing then maybe she maybe learning the behavior from the other dog. Good luck
