Imagine how many others are displaced looking for their owners

See i see the first as being the alpha or pack leader. i agree they are a peacekeeper but not really a 'dominant' personality. The 'dominant' dog is usually not a pack leader. I personally think you'll have some submissive personalities and some dominant personalities and varying degrees in a litter. I think dominance isn't created through lack of training but is more likely made much worse through lack of training and poor owner responsibility. I don't have much experience but i see dominant nature as something you handle not necessarily cure but would be interested to know others views on handling the dominant nature. I don't have alot of experience either but I have to agree with this comment. I think training can help control a dominant dog but will not stop them from testing boundaries now and again or even often. I also think that certian personality types (owners) are better suited for these types of dogs.

Years ago years late at night we heard a woman screaming with a blood curdling voice, My baby! My baby! My baby! It was the worst feeling going out to see if we could do something, thinking something really bad has happened to someone’s child. All the neighbours were in their pj’s running up the street to this woman in the middle of the road, to find that her cat had been run over by a car. Some people quickly felt and went back home other stayed to comfort her. I hope I don’t get flamed for this but though I honestly felt for her It also felt unfair that we were all horrified thinking something has happened to her child. I saw one guy get on the public bus with a dog in a large backpack. I don't know if the driver noticed, can't see how he couldn't. There is lady that gets on the bus with her small dog in a shopping trolleys (granny trolley as I call them. I love those trolleys, so useful)

That would be a great way to introduce yourself a make a good impression on this breeder. LOL Does this breeder do health testing? You said you really liked their dogs, so I take they are well groomed and look well taken care of. Do they talk about their breeding goals or why they breed, anywhere on the web site? Do they show the parents and talk about them at all? Do they mention the types of homes they think would be suitable for the pups? Do they show or speak about pups from previous litters that have gone on to other homes? Do they mention what the personalities of the parent dogs are like? Is there anything, anything at all about the web site, that makes you think they are not caring breeders? Yes to almost everything above except it mentions nothing about health testing and nothing about pups that have gone to other homes. All comentary regarding their own dog's personality/nature all sound so loving and caring with a little humor at times. I get the impression that this breeder mainly breeds for themselves first and not often. They have four dogs from other breeders (they are champions and some being shown at the moment.)and the other three are champions with their prefix. Well they sound alright even good from what you can get from the web site. You may already be so, but if not you need to know exactly what health tests are needed and how to read the results. If it were me, I would sent them a nice email and say how you have been looking at their dogs on the web site and have fallen in love with them or what ever is what you would say. I would also mention /repeat back, some of the things they say about their dogs that you think are good traits, or things they are doing which you think indicate they are good breeders. A little truthful honey never hurts. Then I would state you would like to express interest in the up coming litter. Tell them a bit about your self. Then see what happens. Once you start talking with them then ask about the health tests. if you think they want to know too much about your personal life then just fade out and forget it. I would not write them off for wanting to check out their puppy owners and I would hope that they do all the right health testing and have just not mentioned it on the web site. BTW do they have pedigrees on the web site? If they do then you might want to research those too. Yes they do have pedigrees on the web site and they are of some very good breeders. Only the webpage says they are not taking enquiries until the pups are born (date is given) so this is why I was thinking I should just wait. Thank you Shortstep :D

Hi...I copied and pasted that from the webpage, thats how it was spelled...maybe I should call and tell them of the spelling error.

The breeder is not taking enquiries until the pups are born (a date has been given),so I have time, I may try my luck or may find someone else. I really like this breeder's dogs, what I see in the photos anyway. once more, thank you.

Just curious to know what type of references would be required? Who from? if a breeder has this statement posted on their web page. REFERANCES ARE REQUIRED BEFORE WE WILL CONSIDER SELLING A PUPPY I can only think of a vet reference, maybe stating that you already have a healthy dog that gets vet check ups every year? Thank you in advance.

I'm not a breeder but I'm just concerned and I wonder if people see dogs in ads and then decide that’s what they want and not all those homes will be suitable for that breed. I know that it’s the responsibility of the breeder to screen potential owners but I think the demand can attract not so ethical breeders/puppy farmers to breed these breeds of dogs.

So they are not selling anything not even an idea? No, that's not what I mean. They are buying visibility and conversation, and probably making adopting a rescue dog "sexier", which is not a brand-specific message. It's a pretty risque ad for a shelter (or any charitable organisation) and that's a really quick and often cheap way to temporarily raise the profile of an enterprise, but doesn't generate lasting brand affinity. I understand what you mean now.

Guys I don't think the aim of the ad was to say, oh look, you can get a beautiful perfectly groomed dog from us. I think they were just trying to attract attention, and yeah, their advertising/marketing guy probably knows little with the exception that the company attempts to rehome animals. What's the bet they don't even know what breed it is... My family are all dog owners but I can safely say not one of them would be able to identify the hound firstly as a purebred and secondly as Afghan. Well, to me the aim of the ad was "Go to the RSPCA to get a dog that fits your life style. I am sure that is possible but seeing that most are mixed breeds it would be very difficult to assess, unless each dogs character has been studied/tested (maybe they do this I don't know). So to me it's still a bit misleading.
