  1. OMG that is just so great! I loved every split second of that video. So much has gone into training those dogs. Loved the ending too
  2. Lo Pan, in post number 145 I admitted that I had no real knowledge of BSL; I really thought that it was about ceising pet dogs of the pitbull category and destroying them. I have since learned that BSL does not indicate this but instead is about implementing certain regulations pertaining to certain breeds of dogs and I don't agree with all of these regulations although I still insist that these dogs should be living in a secure are where they are virtually unable to escape and should never be allowed off leash. If this constitutes BSL then so be it. I don't think I am being unreasonable, surely?
  3. Yes, it is true that any breed of dog can be DA but lets be realistic here - the damage inflicted by a golden retriever versus a staffy or pitbull, well the way a staffy or pitbull latch on no golden retriever ever could, the damage inflicted by a staffy or pitbull is way more severe, I know as I have been in such situations. And to those who insist that it is all to do with the way the dog is raised = cobwash! Some dogs no matter how well treated and socialised can still have an attitude towards other dogs; that is a blatant attempt to go digging for excuses; yes some dogs can have a poor temperament due to upbringing but to utilise that excuse in all cases is wearing thin.
  4. This is a case of passing the buck or backpeddling. I may not have been there to see those dogs attack but the chances of other dogs being responsible for the killings are rather slim; too big a coincidence as far as I am concerned. At the end of the day, staffies and the likes do indeed have a high prey drive as some posters here have stipulated, no ifs or buts. AND if BSL does not necessarily indicate such dogs being ceased from their owners and put to sleep then I am all for it! Yes, these breeds should have adequate fencing so they cannot jump or dig their way out; Yes, they should not be allowed off leash and Yes, no more than two per family! Those are my thoughts and I am sticking to them.
  5. So so sorry for what your aunt is having to endure. All positive thoughts her way! I am disgusted to hear that the owner said "she will let go when she is tired"! What a fuc&whit! I so hope that the dog turns on her and lets go when she is tired! See how that feels when it is too close to home. These people are such a detriment to our country, sh?tting and p?ssing and breathing when they should simply cease to exist! Yet another typo error!
  6. You have no idea if this happened ( the bolded bit ) such awful assumptions being made in this thread. Need I say that experience goes hand in hand with the comments that I have made. I do not make such comments lightly. Yes, you could be right Rebanne and then again I could be right. I guess, at the end of the day, we will never know for sure.
  7. Hi spottychick, money issues is no excuse, it could result in the death of a dog. Vets often don't expect to be paid pronto and allow for accounts to be paid in installments. I know certain people that are as tight as a fish's backside and dread spending a dime. I know of other individuals who spend money on themselves like it is their last day on earth yet when it comes to spending money for their pet's welfare they would sooner look the other way!
  8. Conztruct, the owner of the dog apparently said that the dog had diarrhea and vomiting for several weeks which goes to say that perhaps they have not been as diligent as they should have been. I totally acknowledge this Abigail and I certainly wouldn't have handled it the same way as this owner did, but what I am saying is that we can't judge other people and their diligence by what we would do in a certain situation, and there is no guarantee that the owner told Monah the full story behind what was going on, so I don't see the point in getting angry and upset about it - concerned sure, but not angry and upset. As for the some of the comments by the other posters, I don't think you are being over-dramatic about it and Monah isn't a "moaner" (WTF - not exactly called for......) - it's just the way that you would manage a situation like that - everyone's different and will manage things differently....as i said though i don't see the point in being angry or upset, or questioning the care the owner is giving their dog.
  9. Oh Noes!! Let's all track this dreadful owner down and flog them to death After all third and fourth hand info is surely enough to condemn someone to death isn't it? I suppose you do have a point in 3rd & 4th hand info. but who is promoting the death sentence in this case?
  10. Conztruct, the owner of the dog apparently said that the dog had diarrhea and vomiting for several weeks which goes to say that perhaps they have not been as diligent as they should have been.
  11. Well, I hardly think that any vet would advise that a dog be kept with ongoing diarrhea and vomiting without being seen to again if the antibiotics fail to work.
  12. Yes, sorry Cordelia. Didn't absorb the bit about parvo having been ruled out. I must admit that I am still mystified as to why the dog was still having diarrhea and vomiting after several weeks? Shows the likelihood that perhaps the owner did try to stretch things out hoping that the problem would resolve itself.
  13. If the vet suspected parvo he/she should have carried out a parvo test! To assume something as serious as parvo and only give antibiotics to the owner and tell her to take the dog bag if the antibiotics didn't work. A dog with suspected parvo should be on the drip, first and foremost. This is just pathetic really! I would expect better from a vet and the owner obviously doesn't understand the seriousness of parvo to simply toddle off with antibiotics in tow! Anyone with an ounce of common sense would not allow their dog to go on vomitting and diarrhea for weeks; downright bloody idiotic!!! Did you not read the post properly? It wasnt parvo. No, I guess not.
  14. Cordelia, did you not read the part in which the dog has been allowed to go on with the vomiting and the diarrhea for weeks? Yes dogs can lose condition quite rapidly but this is clearly not such a case.
  15. If the vet suspected parvo he/she should have carried out a parvo test! To assume something as serious as parvo and only give antibiotics to the owner and tell her to take the dog bag if the antibiotics don't work sounds very unprofessional. :p
  16. So, if the APBT would be bred out in the open rather than "underground" how different would it really be? So are you saying that the current APBT is crap? lol. and if so then why are you such a fan of them? I am a little confused here. No the current APBT is not crap, Just the rubbish that quite a few people breed at home because you cant exactly go to a registered breeder and get one can you? Dont get me wrong if you know the right people there are some great APBT kennels around but your agave joe wouldn't have a clue, so they get there mates mut and breed with there mut and call it an APBT for all there mates to see how cool it is. Okay, thanks for that. I suppose that applies to any breed really. What I would really like to know APBT is are those APBT bred by "great kennels" as you say less inclined to be DA? No they are not less inclined to be less DA, thats in there breed standard. Almost like breeding collies to be less inclined to heard, not the best example but you get the drift. But in saying that i havent had a problem with my APBT and other dogs at all, but you will find that MOST APBT's are bred as family dogs and will never see a fighting pit in there life. I have no problem with DA dogs in the right hands. Thanks for your honest reply APBT. I don't have a problem with DA dogs either in the right hands and providing that they are not allowed off leash in public areas.

  19. Like I said, I too have owned a DA dog and taken precautions (mine remained onlead as she couldn't be trusted at all)- it is the only responsible thing to do. If you know you have a DA dog, and can call it away before an attack then thats not a problem. If your DA dog was to attack mine while offlead and you could NOT prevent it, then that is extremely negligent. Taking a DA dog to an offlead park has to be a matter of management (as you obviously know ). This guy walked right up to us, did not try to avoid us in the slightest. I only twigged there might be a prob when his dog started to stiff leg walk when it was within close range and its hackles went up. The owner looked distinctly nervous at that point. I have no doubt he knew the dog was about to attack as he scurried over and was able to grab his dog once it did. Honey was walking right next to me the whole time. A dog that is dog aggressive should never be off lead, not for a moment. Even the most obedient DA dog will prove to be a menace and able to turn on a deaf ear when it is about to attack another dog.
  20. No it won't. Not as long as certain individuals keep breeding for fighting, dog aggression and protection of their property (ie: their Hash stash/crop and VB empties collection out the backyard). APBT owners in certain areas ARE the breeds worst advocates as they are less intelligent than their dogs yet retain the ability to speak and use their opposable thumbs. Until deadshits stop owning and breeding them.. BSL will live long and prosper.. particularly in certain council areas in Sydney. DITTO!
  21. As some others have said, doggy people are one thing but non-doggy people would be disgusted, having said that even doggy people may react negatively to that! Strangely, I have never been squeamish with my own dogs (non drooling that is) yet with other people's dogs I don't know that I would accept food from a basket An endearing idea but nevertheless one that would soon leave your guests hungry. Even if covered, people are still going to wonder if dog has had contact with food :D
  22. The person who reported the JRT attack, was he the owner of the JRT? One would hope that if it was indeed the owner of the victim that he would do more than just ring the police? and given that the traffic was held up why didnt someone else report this? and how is it that the police haven't notified the council? this just is not good enough. I would be ringing the cops and enquire about this and literally ask them to notify the local shire or ring the local shire and ask them to ring the cops for verification of this incident! I cannot believe that the attacking dog only has a waist length fence to contain him which obviously is proving to be inadequate!
  23. I am known for my endless patience but my patience wears very thin when people are out to make money to the detriment of our pet's welfare! F***k me dead when frickin so-called "vets" in australia still maintain that yearly boosters are an absolute necessity.
  24. Sorry, but that is not true for crossbred or purebreds. The combination of genes possible from the mating of two purebred dogs is quite wide. A whole raft of studies have looked at this. At the end of the day, poodles still look like poodles, pugs look like pugs, etc etc. They may vary in size, colour, length of muzzle, blah blah blah but you still know what breed of dog you are looking at. The same applies to xbred puppies from purebred parents.
  25. There speaks someone who's never met a wheaten litter. You had better pick yourself up and dust yourself off, it is awfully dusty rolling on the ground. At the end of the day, of course not all litter mates are going to look identical but it would still be bluntly obvious that they belong to a particular breed. What are you trying to say Sheridan? that a wheaten litter looks as though it consists of a concoction of breeds? I say not.
