7 Year Old Girl Mauled In Central Coast Shopping Centre
RufusTheDoofus replied to samoyedman's topic in In The News
You can teach kids all you like but as their cognitive brain isn't developed until well into their teens, kids will inthe end, be kids. Fact of the matter is that dogs and kids must be supervised at all times. -
What has a gsd pup to do with current bsl?

Fair enough. Seems rather an odd set of laws but Queebslanders have always been an odd bunch

Need Solutions For A Suicidal Dog
RufusTheDoofus replied to RufusTheDoofus's topic in General Dog Discussion
The cars are out in the car park so that isn't an option -
I haven't been out that far, how fast does the river run there? I have no wish to be fishing for GSDs. Lots of empathy but no sympathy. If you know your dog is aggressive you shouldn't put it in a situation where it can practise aggression. Glad you were alright though.

Need Solutions For A Suicidal Dog
RufusTheDoofus replied to RufusTheDoofus's topic in General Dog Discussion
thanks, I will look into this. I am by no means inexperienced but I have not had this problem as I have always trained my dogs from a young age and have rarely put this much time into training rescues at obedience clubs (this girl needs the socialisation but my other dog deserves to be trained too) -
Need Solutions For A Suicidal Dog
RufusTheDoofus replied to RufusTheDoofus's topic in General Dog Discussion
She will tear straight through a sof-krate. This girl is not with me forever, just until she has some training. I am not in a position to purchase another crate right now so other solutions would be appreciated. -
Even aggro dogs deserve an outing, but she needs to have it on lead or in a pen. I was going to try the river this weekend - where were they?

Need Solutions For A Suicidal Dog
RufusTheDoofus replied to RufusTheDoofus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh dear god no - I don't tie her up at home. My dogs run free without collars at home. This is for dog training. I had considered a crate but one I have - the one she sleeps in, is heavy and cumbersome and the thought of folding it up twice in one night and carting it around isn't pleasant, -
What a horrid thing to happen. 50 bit marks? Sounds like the dog was unbalanced and should never have been anywhere near the baby. So long as people continue to do stupid thing, dogs and kids will suffer.

Every time I tie my rescue girl up she manages to twist herself around the pole/car/object she is tied to. I am going to try a stake in the ground with a loop that spins but does anyone else have any other suggestions? I would much appreciate it as I imagine her trying to break her legs when tied to the stake. Poor girl hasn't had a lot of life experience.

Really? I have heard some pretty awful things about the rspca here but I didn't know this. Please tell me what brand of fertiliser so I make sure never to buy it. A dog that gets put down ends up as fertiliser if they are buried, or if their ashes are scattered. Think about it. Souff we all end up as fertiliser, you think about it. Not all of us. I plan on being bronzed!

VIC RSPCA does what they can to help shepherds, working with the GSDCV and other groups. In fact many of the employees will put people onto the GSDCV instead of allowing them to surrender the dogs so that the dogs have a better chance at finding the right home. I hope this little pup is safe and well wherever he is

Aren't there laws about what you have to do with a found animal in their area?

I've been waiting for months and have at least until November to wait for my pup from the breeder I want to use. I own GSDs and they're a dime a dozen. There are always puppies on the ground and some of them are from good breeders who have good dogs. However, I have decided I want a pup from this breeder and any other pup would probably have to struggle to measure up to what I expect my as of yet non-existant puppy to be like. If you have your heart set on a breeder then wait and the right pup will come along. It is VERY hard to say no to a pup once you have seen it! Lots of people seem lovely on the phone, but you seem to have done research on breeder 1 and not 2.

I'm sorry, I can't help but I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

Family Dog - Move To Us - What Will Happen?
RufusTheDoofus replied to Snowball's topic in General Dog Discussion
No probs, no restrictions. You will need a rabies shot for the dog and a health check. Otherwise all you need is a crate. -
To answer your question - no Why? Because: 1. You take one puppy out of the petshop they will replace it with another. This consequently feeds the BYB or puppy farm market. Demand = supply 2. Most pet shop pups I have seen have huge problems behaviourally - either fear or an inability to "speak dog" because they have been removed from their mother too young and have been put in a pen 3. I like the know the breeding of my pure bred. If I want a x, there are plenty in pounds. Saying all of that, if your heart tells you you want this dog, go for it. But do it because you're in love with this dog not because of some misguided martyr syndrome. Otherwise you will end up with a house full of dogs you dont really want or love. Just IMO

Walking Through Vic Market Last Sunday
RufusTheDoofus replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have always taken my dogs in there without an issue. There is even a petshop in the middle!! Don't think anyone will take you on with those girls Ron. They my slobber them to death. Just keep your big drooly things away from the merchandise unless you want to come home with a lot of cheap imported rat leather. Rufus gets into more trouble at petshop. Silly dog decided to mark at Spoilt Rotten Pets - lucky the owners were understanding!!
