  1. He was determined he was going to get the swan and was happy when he did. I would like to see that same person in the middle of a water way with a boat coming straight for him and see what his thoughts are. But at least he has been caught, be interesting to see if he gets a good fine or just a slap on the wrist like most cruelty cases that go to court. I hope Karma pays him back. Marion01
  2. Hi Moselle, my OH is absolutely fine with the dogs allowing us to live in their house. We wouldn't have it any other way, our doggies have always been our fourlegged kids, and they are tidier than having kids around at times, except for when they leave their fluffy toys around and you accidentally put your foot on one of them thinking it is one of the dogs, and turn around and say sorry to it. My daughters OH is like yours, and she has 2 dogs, a toy poodle, and a BC, and neither of them are allowed in the house under any circumstances, which makes it hard on her as when she was growing up we always had our dogs in the house. I really feel for you. Marion01
  3. My dogs are fed fresh chicken mince each day with Supercoat adult chicken, and once or twice a week have VIP chicken roll and I have never had a problem with urine sending the grass brown, to look at it you would never know where they had peed. So I think food could be a big issue. Marin01
  4. OK t-time, I love the two TT pics you showed, but then I am biased anyway. Marion01
  5. Love the unusual colours of the different breeds, especially love the black and tan bulldog, and I am not a fan of black and tan dogs, but that one just grabs me. Party colours with mainly white are my preference. In my breed, the Tibetan Terrier, chocolate is a no no and I think they are lovely. All TTs must have black pigment for showing. Choc TT
  6. My dogs think it is a great sport catching and eating flies. We have learned to get out of their way when they are diving up in the air for them, or sitting on our laps and decide to use us as a launching pad to get them. I should imagine they would eat way worse things than flies in their lives. Marion01
  7. Gorgeous monkeys, poor harmless little things. Just makes you wonder what the human race is coming to. Shame the morons doing this are not an endangered species, unfortunately I think they are proliferating at a fast rate. Marion01
  8. He is one amazing little boy and deserves his award. Just looking at all the pics and the love and trust in the dogs eyes for Jack, and he for them. He has had a wonderful role model in you too k9angel. Marion01
  9. Yep definately !!!!! More oxygen wasters. Marion01
  10. Unsupervised kids with any dog is a no no in my book. Even more so when the dog is an unknown quantity. The father being a dog handler should have been more cautious. If only dogs could talk and tell their side of the story, but no their fate is sealed the minute something like this happens. Marion01
  11. Meagan4348, Blind dogs have a fantastic way of compensating for the loss of sight, they become much more alert in their hearing, and also go on vibrations on the floor etc. One of my dogs is deaf and blind dog and she finds her way around extremely well and very rarely bumps into things, but you also have to remember that they get to know where everything is and if you shift things around it confuses them no end. Most of my old blindies went blind gradually. I have one who is starting to go blind now, she is just over 14 yrs old. I know I couldn't cope like they do. Marion01
  12. Yes Tobster I can see the itch getting very bad, but I have to wait 12 months or so as I have blind TT oldies that I don't want to upset by bringing an exhuberant pup into their world. Love dogs with heaps of personality, lappiemum and whiskedaway, am so looking forward to meeting one in the flesh, don't know if that will be a bad thing or a good thing though. Marion01
  13. Thanks Lappiemum, I have been bitten by the lappie bug (and I haven't even seen a lappie in real life) and it's getting very itchy. Yes I found the Spitz thread the other night, and have been slowly going through the posts. Marion01
  14. I didn't know this breed existed until I read these posts a week ago. They are so adorable. I love the cream and the domino colour. Could easily see a couple of them sharing our home with us in the next year or so. Have been reading everything I can about them, and they are exactly what we are used to with the Tibetan Terriers who are not Terriers at all, one of their many duties in Tibet were with the Tibetan nomads to herd their yaks etc. Marion01
  15. Hi i The oster blades fit perfectly on the Wahl KM2 clippers, but I don't know about the other brands. Marion01
  16. I have Wahl clippers but I use Oster blades with them, can't complain about them as I have been clipping 17 dogs ( Tibetan Terriers, Bichons, Poodle, and Chinese Crested Powder Puff) every 3 months for the past 10 or more years and the blades have lasted quite a long time between sharpenings. Marion01
  17. I'm afraid Indigirl that you have one of those dogs who just loves to dig, regardless of whether they are bored or not, mine are the same. I have booby traps all over my yard from about 6 of my dogs and am fearful that one day I am going to break an ankle or such, as they have dug under the clothes line and right the other side of the gate on the side of the house where we park the car, which means when coming home from grocery shopping all loaded up it's nothing to go down a foot into the ground and then up the other side, nothing but nothing stops them digging, and if the holes get filled in again they make sure that it doesn't stay filled in for long. I gave up going crook at them and telling them to stop it a long time ago when I realised that it's going to happen regardless. They know I will still love them no matter what. Marion01
  18. Thanks Miss Squish, I actually have Cody's sister as well and she is 14 and apart from arthritis she is faring well. It's really good to hear Ruger is responding so well to treatment, hope all goes well for you and him. Give him a big hug from me. Marion01
  19. Cane toads don't have many enemies, but Magpies know how to kill them without being poisoned. They turn them over on their backs and eat their insides out. Living in the mountain area and having dams where the cane toads can breed readily is a real problem. Two of my dogs like to rush at the toads to make them move and when they move they mouth them. I have a squirter bottle with water in it, and if the dogs do happen to get any poison, I flush their mouths out well until they stop drooling. Be careful hitting the toads with shovels or golf clubs, as if you happen to hit them in the poison sacs the milk squirts for a fair way. I have been hit in the face with the milk while hitting one between the eyes with a stick. We used to use a slug gun and shoot them between the eyes and when you see them throw their back legs out full length and quiver you know that they have been killed. In later years we have taken to collecting them in a bucket and putting them in the freezer which is the way that was suggested on a Wildlife program. Ticks, cattle or paralysis tick haven't been a problem for us. So far we have only had 2 paralysis ticks, and they were bought in by livestock from a tick area, and over the years just the odd cattle tick has been found on the dogs. What you need to do is find out if you are moving to a paralysis tick area and take precautions accordingly. Marion01
  20. I sympathise with you Miss Squish, as we had that same horrible news a few years ago with one of our Tibetan Terriers, Cody, who was also 6yrs old at the time of diagnosis. He was lying beside me on the lounge and I was patting him and noticed a lump on the side of his neck. We took him to the vet the next morning and he just thought it was an infection of the lymph glands so he was treated for a couple of weeks on antibiotics but the lump didn't go down, so we had a blood test done, and it came back that he had leukaemia He was his usual smart arse self and we would never have known there was anything the matter with him, if I hadn't found the lump. We were given the option of chemo or macrolone tablets, and having friends who had not long been through chemo with one of their dogs for cancer and on their advice we opted for the tablets, which would help to control the size of the lumps for a while. He was still his same cheeky self for the next few months, though the tablets made him put on a lot of weight, we were hoping he would make it to his 7 th birthday which was in July, but sadly it wasn't to be. He lived for at least 8 months after his diagnosis which we were ever so grateful for, the vet assured us he was not in any pain during that time and we also could see no evidence of this either. 21. Beautiful dogs. All Tibetan breeds are considered Holy. The Tibetan Mastiff is one of the Tibetan breeds that the Chinese all but wiped out during their invasion of Tibet. Pity they didn't think they were Holy when they killed them during the invasion. I feel very special having Tibetan Terriers in my life. Marion01
  22. I have fed 17 dogs on Lenards chicken mince and Supercoat dry for years and most of them are aged in the 12 to 14 year age group, with one who is just over 16 yrs old, so certainly hasn't done them any harm. The only trips to the vet have been age related, rather than general health related. In Rocky there are two Lenards outlets, one minces the chicken really fine and the other has coarsely minced chicken. I find that the finely minced chicken always smells but the coarse stuff is ok, and the dogs seem to prefer it. The mince sells for $1.50 per kg, but if you buy 10kgs or over it is only $1.00 per kg. 23. That is just fantastic Tigerlily73, the third pic should be used as a poster for rescue. "The Silent Thanks" from rescue to rescuer. Marion01 (Sorry double post)

  25. From what he said on TV tonight, the people didn't ask for the reward, so he is going to donate some of it to the RSPCA. I cringed when I heard him say that, as I thought you poor man if only you knew the truth about them. I would much rather see it go to no kill shelters or rescues. But I am so glad he got Charlie back. Marion01
