  1. What is the difference between Comfortis and Sentinel? I have been using Sentinel (and Capstar with rescues and with mine when needed) for some time and it has worked well. Is Comfortis better and in what way? I am soon to be moving to a coastal area and need to look at tick prevention. Any recommendations? We have never had a flea issue here even with rescues coming in. My dogs have only had fleas once and that was a few years back.
  2. I hope your dog is ok. I have used the Baulkham Hills After Hours Hospital and found them very good, but very expensive. Baulkham Hills is possibly closer to you as well if you are coming from the western burbs.
  3. My dogs are also oblivious to fireworks and storms more often than not. Sometimes they will bark if there is a very loud clap of thunder but this is rare.
  4. Whenever I see things like this, I wonder how the parents of these people react. It would sicken me if it was my flesh and blood behaving in such a manner.
  5. LM - I give Monte Capstar and have never had any issues. My Vets have never told me to be careful with either it. It seems to be a relatively harmless drug I beleive. AmandaJ - an epilpesy diagnoses is determined when all other seizure related disorders are ruled out. I don't know a lot about toxoplasma gondii but I believe that infection in dogs in Australia is not overly common.
  6. Openarms, there is also a relatively new 24 hour emergency Vet at Blacktown. Animal Care Vet Hospital 14 Lock St Blacktown NSW 2148 (02) 9621 4161 * 24 Hour Emergency Service * Open 7 Days And Quakers Hill Vet apparently offers 24 hr emergency Quakers Hill Veterinary Hospital 138 Burdekin Rd Quakers Hill NSW 2763 (02) 9626 9561 * 24 Hour Emergency Service * Open Seven Days
  7. It made me sick to watch this on the news.
  8. I think it is good idea, however, if the breeding establishment is listed as "Sun Valley Kennels" how does the buyer know that thi smeans this is a farmer who keeps his dogs in appalling conditions?
  9. I don't know what it is about that particular weekend in March, but it seems to always clash with at least one or more really good/important things each year. But not with my birthday which is good
  10. I'm curious about the cholesterol LM. Monte, my epileptic, was included in a study done by Sydney University on epilepsy. They noted his cholesterol was high in his blood tests (among other notes) but his Neurologist told me that dogs were not affected by cholseterol like humans were and it was not a concern at all.
  11. Agree with Sas. It certainly doesn't look like demodectic or sarcoptic] mange to me. The marks on the face look like cuts or scratches. They could be from dog fights, a hard life or anything. The back looks like a flea bite dermatitis perhaps.
  12. I never feed cooked anything. We feed a mix of raw and kibble and also some tinned.
  13. Even if it takes the time for two consults? The consult is for the dogs, not for the owner I'm taking two dogs in tomorrow so I'll test this out Gosh, oh my, I thought the consult was for the owners. It really doesn't matter Raz regardless as it is obvious that we all have to pay what the negotiated or fixed price is. As I said, I don't pay consult fees at all and haven't for many many years. Because of this, I have never even looked at how they are normally charged. Going back even further though, when I was a Vet Nurse, we only charged one consult fee and so this is where my thinkign currently sits.
  14. How funny. What if you take one in this morning and one in this afternoon? You're still getting two different consults whether they're in the room together or not. That is 2 separate consults though in my view and, if I paid consult fees, I would expect to pay twice in that example. Taking them both in together, in my view, is one consultation.
  15. I don't walk my dogs often. We are restricted for several months of the year with heat and humidity and we are restricted with time and work long hours. When we walk them, it is on the weekends. They are not a breed that needs a lot of energy release and so the games they play, and we play with them, in the house and yard are enough. In fact, only one of them is energetic enough to even chase a ball and she does this everynight and drives me insane wanting me to throw it so she can chase it.
  16. To my knowledge, my Vet charges only one fee and has no restriction on the number of dogs. However, I don't pay consult fees and haven't for many years so I really am not 100% sure. I personally feel 2 seperate consultation fees when the dogs are taken in together is a bit much, particularly if it is for something simple, like yearly vaccs and check-ups.
  17. Life moves in mysterious ways Eridor..... I for one would welcome nationwide laws instead of state based. In this day and age, with the ease of moving and relocating, people move a lot and move far greater distances.
  18. I don't think it is cruel. This is a pic from my childhood years. The baby is my eldest brother and the dog is Champ, our GSD.
  19. Thanks all. I am specifically referring to Burpengary/Caboolture areas.
  20. Out of curiosity, can someone detail the QLD dog owning laws. If you are a 'breeder'can you have an unlimited number of dogs? What about pet owners? Rural, semi-rural and metro?
  21. If your dogs are fit and healthy, they should be ok. However, your home is now a risk for any dogs that have a low or weak immune system, or have not been vaccinated. If you regularly help out rescues, you may need to reconsider for a while.
  22. RIP Pepper. *hugs* Jane. You gave her the best years of her life.
