  1. I am hoping at the last minute to arrange my 3 Pugs to be groomed tomorrow. Does anyone know of a groomer in west Sydney who has a mobile dog wash or one that will pick up and return the dogs? We will be in the middle of packing up the house and I had planned to wash them all myself ready for the big move the next day and had a late thought that it will be less stressful to pay someone to do it. Hoping someone can help.
  2. I have a Pug girl who had strutvites which developed into stones. She had major surgery twcie beofre she came into rescue to have the stones removed from her bladder. There is some thought that it is an egg and chicken thing, although in this case it is infection and alkilinity. Is it the alkilinity which causes the infections or the infections which cause the alkilinity. Either way, the urine being too alkaline causes the crystals and eventually the stones. We needed long term anitbiotics to finally clear up Olivia's infection. She had several short courses, and within weeks the blood and straining was back and the urine ph at worriesome levels. We determined tha the infection had never cleared so she was put on 3 months of antibiotics after a culture to determine the extact bacteria. She was also put on prescrptives CD kibble (for life). For the first time in several years, this girl is crystal, stone and infection free and has been this way for over 12 months now. She will remain on the kibble until she is no longer. I will not ever chance putting her through the pain and misery of what she has already experienced in her former home ever again. Her coat glows with health on this kibble. She is a bundle of energy and has never ever looked better. I give the kibble a thumbsup well and truly. She came to me after she was taken to a Vet clinic, in a dreadful mess with stones and so badly infected she was actually leaking puss and her back end was stained yellow. She was going to be euthanased. My other two are on a part raw and part commercial diet. Olivia is the only one obviously to eat her special kibble and she has nothing else. It is expensive, luckily she is only a little Pug, but it is worth it. There are two manufacturers of kibble to suit this condition and they are both sold only through Vets. One brand (I think it is Eukanuba??) is cheaper than the other and I am yet to trial it.
  3. Bahahahahha! I love the Pug on the first test. She grumbled and snuffled at the fence... perhaps she thought it would blow over. How I love that breed! *runs off again to keep watching* Edited - Wow, interesting about the social vs cognitive intelligence changes. It was also interesting to see the brain of the bracchy.
  4. The comparison photos don't ring true Sway. My antler, that I purchased last week, is nothing like the pic you are showing. It is probably mid way between the one you are saying is yours and the one you are saying is a competitors. Mind you, I am more than happy with the size, but I feel suspect you exaggerating the size a little of other retails, and yours, to be honest. Antlers would be different widths depending on where they come form, so I imagine most reatialers of them would have varying sizes. Anyway, my guys are loving the one I purchased and I will need to purchase more. 1 between 3 dogs is simply not enough.
  5. The worst of it with MOnte doing it is that he east poo.... the thought of him eating this and then licking my floors, me or the other dogs makes me feel ill.
  6. Some sogs, like some humans, don't handle pain or illness very well. It could be just that he is sensitive to not feeling well. It could also be something more sinister. If you are concerned, I'd go back to your Vet.
  7. Thanks Rappie. As always, I appreciate your advice.
  8. That's interesting. I haven't heard of that line of thought before but it sounds reasonable. Rappie - where are you? I'd like to hear another view on it.
  9. I said it is often a good indicator, not that it was absolute. The Vet takes into account where the skin irritation is when determining a diagnoses.
  10. No thoughts, but you have my sympathy. I have a licker too.... he doesn't lick the toher dogs though, just me and the floors, but the other 2 have started licking his ears and the bitch licks my other dogs ears now. This is a new thing and has only started in the last week or so.
  11. Demodex normally starts around the muzzle and eyes. I would suggest it is some kind of allergy, perhaps see a skin specialist as others have recommended. To my knowledge and experience, the area affected is often a good indicator of what is causing the issue. Near the base of the tail and on the back - flea bite allergy On the underneath side of the paws and the abdomen and chest - contact allergy Around the chest, neck and underarms and hind legs - diet or atopic allergy Around the muzzle and eyes and forehead - demodectic mites Everywhere - sarcoptic mites Sometimes obviously there might a combination of allergens and or conditions that will see more than one area being affected. Edited to note - skin allergens that are due to intolerance and yeast related also will often cause recurrent ear/eye infections.
  12. I sometimes ponder the idea but, in all reality, I don't have the time to devote to it so it will never happen.
  13. Toilet training an adult dog is far, far simpler than training a pup I can assure you. Good luck with the trial. It seems that is might be a great solution for all concerned. I hope it all goes well.
  14. Agree, tho' the RSPCA would have had to approve it? i agree but the rspca do have to sign off on the campaign so they have final say. eta snap ssm Yes, a marketeer for the RSPCA would have approved it more than likely and the welfare strategies may not have been in their field of vision. The two grousp would look at things a little differently and the RSPCA is a very large organisation overall. Who knows though, we can all only assume.
  15. I would imagine the marketeer, and the advertising company they use, are pretty removed from the welfare side of the RSPCA beliefs.
  16. Nilodour only masks odours I think. I do use this at times in the dogs washing though.
  17. Bump - Hesa, any comments on the new cleaner??
  18. The smell doesn't change from when they are normal or when they need emptying. If his anal sacs need expressing, you might notice some swelling of the glands around the ring of the anus and possibly some leakage.
  19. The Police. Poisoning is a crime.
  20. You might be best putting the story in quotes so that people realise it is a joke and that it isn't something you have done... and I would possibly alter the heading of this thread or the word Costco in the story too
  21. This to me suggest that you receive them because you are attending? we have had name badges made up for dogzonline members who will be attending the Dog owners Choice Awards so they will stand out in the crowd but for those of you who are not going but who may attend a dogz do in the future these are great I have no idea though.
  22. For those that re getting them as they are attending the Awards, is there a choice of name on them or will it be just real name only??
  23. I have a GE card and have bought furntiure and furnishings for my home to the value of thousands and thousands with it, interest free. If you manage your money well, they're fabulous.
  24. In my view, fresh is better regardless of the species being fed. In having said that, I don't think that commercial food will kill any dog and I am 100% certain that commercial food is not the cause of as many issues as raw/barf feeders will have you believe. My dogs are fed a mix of both raw and commercial, except for Olivia who is on prescriptives kibble and therefore is fed 100% commercial.
